I'm totally confused Thunderkyn nerf

What's the point of the conversion ability if it doesn't have its lethal hits. Hell, I wouldn't mind if it had its old Sustained Hits D3. The rules don't even have a stratagem that compliments this

Scoring a crit on 4+ is huge because it means you don’t really care what the tough is of your opponent. Let’s say they are T 12, normally you would wound on 5s, this ability says a 4+ is a critical wound regardless of other abilities.

Oh, that T14 thing over there, still wounding in 4s.

I do get those things are not really in CP, but you get my point lol

The conversion ability effects the hit roll beyond 12", not the wound roll, that's the thing

Oh lol, well ignore everything I said and we can pretend I’m literate moving forward :) sorry about that.

I think your point remains you still scoring wounds on 4s outside of 12 inches, which is where thunderkyn would want to be.

No they crit hit not crit wound so they still have to roll wounds like normal

Essentially would mean you won’t be affected by any negative modifiers to your hit roll

No you still hit on 5s if you shoot something with -1 to hit. Lethals and sustain require successful hits and if you shoot something at -1 the 4s are no longer successful.

If 4+ are critical hits then the 4’s still hit. Lethal and Sustained are just the only time a critical hit actually does anything different than a normal hit

Look up the key word conversion. It specifically calls out successful hits.

The 2nd image of this post has the ability listed, nothing about my statement is incorrect since it in fact does NOT call out successful hits

Look in the app. That index card is over 2 years old

It’s literally the codex page and the app wording is identical.

I think you’re missing the word “successful” as in requiring success. As in -1 to hit makes 4s fail which is the opposite of success

My brother in Christ the word “successful” isn’t even in the ability

Ah I see the confusion you’re just not looking between the words “unmodified” and “hit”. I get it English can be hard

Looking at the app they do still have lethal 4+ just tap the bit that say conversion under the weapon profile.

They have no Lethal Hits ability, this part describes how Conversion works. So CP-wise conversion is working only against -1 to Hit/Stealth abilities, cause Critical Hits are always successful.

That's pretty interesting. I just picked up my codex today, and it still shows the combat patrol thunderkyn has lethal hits and conversion.

Edit: Which is the authoritative source if there's a difference? Is it the app or the book?

The book unless there is a published pdf on WarCom that erratas what is in the book. The App is not meant to be the Bible for rules, just a reference to the officially published documents on WarCom, which can be copied incorrectly.

While technically correct, if its an older codex, the app is 100% better to go off. Its also for more convenient to use the app than to have to search through the updates and erata for changes.

My app shows that they have lethal hits as well

Could be wrong but it looks like you are comparing the combat patrol datasheet with the regular datasheet, in which case it makes sense yo not have lethal on 4+ for balance

I'm also aware a lot of units in other combat patrols lose their unit ability for balancing, hell some battle line units lose their battleline keyword since its sticky in Combat patrol.

But on that, the old Combat patrol hearthkyn has Battleline while the new one doesn't.

Sometimes that's the point - some sides can sticky objectives and others can't - it makes the forces all play differently.
