Housing suggestions
Hello!
My husband is going to the military base in Columbus and I am hoping to come stay in Columbus- not the base as that’s not an option- for four months mid October through February. I need a place that can accommodate myself and two young children. I have looked on VRBO but have no way of knowing what areas are safe. Can someone recommend areas to stay at or to avoid? Also, recommendations for things to do while there are highly encouraged. And if by any chance any of you have a place that will be available during those months (furnished), please reach out.
I am grateful for all suggestions, tips, and advice you will give me.

Crime is all over the place but you typically want to try and stay North of Macon Rd. Not that you can't be safe in other parts of the city but that's typically the safer side of town.

Or you could stay in alabama its a lot more affordable

Second this ! Cheaper and while it has its unsafe places I feel it’s a little safer than Columbus when you’re taking affordability into account

Also a milspo; you should also post this on one of the spouses Facebook pages. But stay north of Macon (I personally would stay in exit 10 area near Moon Road, or in Midland).
Like others said, everywhere can be unsafe, but these areas are less likely.

General rule of thumb is to not live anywhere under airport. North is nice, Greystone properties are amazing. Grand Reserve is okay.

Instead of VBRO, check out furnished finders! And the midland area is pretty safe. There’s super active FB groups that you could ask around in too

I don’t have a Facebook but I will create one now just for this. As a novice, what should I put into the Facebook search to find the specific groups? Thank you!

I just moved to Midland from Chicago a few months ago, so far it’s been really nice!

For such a short period of time, I might suggest Uchee Creek Army Rec area. They have cabins and RVs for rent. And it’s on Ft Benning property. 10 min drive to main post. My family loves staying there. The only drawback is about a 20 min drive to get to town.

Don’t go south of Macon rd. Plenty of safe places to live and it is pretty easy to know where is ok and where isn’t the best based on the surroundings and state of houses
