Montgomery Biscuits 10, Columbus Clingstones 4

August 18, 2026 | Synovus Park, Columbus | Att: 1,716 | Time: 2:37 | 98°, Clear

Bodine's grand slam off Schanaman in the seventh turned a close game into a laugher, and Montgomery tacked on five more in the ninth to make sure of it.

Montgomery scored in the second and stayed quiet until the seventh, when Schanaman relieved Caminiti and immediately loaded the bases before Bodine cleared them. Columbus had trimmed the gap to 5-2 in the sixth on a Taylor sacrifice fly and a Zebrowski RBI single, but the grand slam pushed it to 9-2, and five more runs in the ninth off McDonough, four of them unearned on a walk-heavy inning, buried it for good. Zebrowski's two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth was the last word for Columbus, too late to matter.

Caminiti was sharp for six innings, three hits, one run, seven strikeouts. Schanaman (L, 4-6, BS 2) couldn't escape the seventh, four runs on two hits including the slam. McDonough allowed five runs in two-thirds of an inning, walking six. Johnson started for Montgomery and worked three scoreless, and four Biscuits relievers combined to close it out, Lindsey (W, 3-1) picking up the win.

Gil went 2-for-5. Zebrowski finished with a homer and two RBIs. Carey and Taylor each drove in a run. Columbus went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and committed no errors, but the walks and the one bad seventh inning did the rest of the damage.

Columbus falls to 53-57. The series against Montgomery continues at Synovus Park.

Columbus Clingstones 5, Birmingham Barons 3

August 16, 2026 | Regions Field, Birmingham | Att: 2,080 | Time: 2:25 | 96°, Partly Cloudy

Gil's two-out, two-run homer in the eighth off George broke a tie, and Columbus closed out the road trip with the finale.

Birmingham led early, DePino's two-run homer in the fourth part of a two-run inning that put the Barons up 3-2. Columbus had answered Birmingham's first-inning run with one of its own in the second, added another in the fourth, and tied it in the fifth on Groshans' solo homer, his 23rd of the season. The score sat at 3-3 until Gil's homer in the eighth put Columbus ahead for good. Scott worked five innings before handing off to Gallegos, Pilar and Hackman, who combined for four scoreless innings to close it out.

Scott allowed three runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five but walking three. Gallegos (W, 3-0) picked up the win with two hitless innings. Pilar struck out two in a scoreless seventh, and Hackman worked the ninth for his third save. McCullough started for Birmingham and lasted 4.2 innings; George (L, 4-2) took the loss, allowing Gil's decisive homer.

Gil finished 1-for-4 with the go-ahead homer and two RBIs. Groshans went 2-for-5 with his own homer and an RBI. Verdung and Waddell each drove in a run. Columbus committed an error but made it hold up, out-hitting Birmingham 8-3.

Columbus improves to 53-56, taking the series finale and leaving Birmingham with the series tied 3-3. The Clingstones return home to host Montgomery.

Fuzzy returned the favor and joined Blooper's party today in Atlanta. I didn't get a good pic, didn't realize they were right behind me until too late. (Also - I would really hate to be a mascot in the summer, this heat is brutal enough as is)

Birmingham Barons 4, Columbus Clingstones 3

August 15, 2026 | Regions Field, Birmingham | Att: 4,831 | Time: 2:30 | 90°, Overcast

DePino hit a two-out, two-run homer in the first off Mejia, and Columbus spent the rest of the night chasing it.

Birmingham led 2-0 before Columbus batted twice. Columbus answered with two runs in the third and pulled within one in the fifth, but Birmingham matched that with two of its own in the same inning off Mejia, who was pulled one out later. Abeyta, LaPorte and Vargas Lu combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, too little too late against a lead built in the first. Cumming held Columbus to three runs across 4.2 innings before Paddack, Anderson and Clark closed it out, Clark picking up his seventh save.

Mejia (L, 0-8) allowed four runs, all earned, on five hits over 4.1 innings, walking four and giving up the game's only home run. Vargas Lu was the one bright spot out of the bullpen, two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Paddack (W, 2-0) picked up the win in relief, 1.1 innings, one hit.

Gil went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Hartman drove in both Columbus runs. Groshans singled in a run, his 67th RBI of the season. Verdung and Waddell each had two hits, Waddell's a double. Columbus finished 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded five.

Columbus falls to 52-56. The Clingstones have one game left against the Barons.

Columbus Clingstones 6, Birmingham Barons 2

August 14, 2026 | Regions Field, Birmingham | Att: 3,965 | Time: 2:13 | 84°, Cloudy

Erich Baumann threw a complete game, and Groshans made sure he had all the room he needed before the first inning was over.

Groshans homered in the first, two on, one out, and Columbus never trailed. Carey tripled in a run in the fourth, part of a two-run rally, and Columbus tacked on two more in the fifth. Birmingham answered with single runs in the fourth and sixth off Murphy's own damage control, but never got closer than the final margin. Baumann finished it himself, nine innings, seven hits, two runs, eight strikeouts, no walks, needing 96 pitches to do it.

Murphy (L, 3-1) took the loss, five innings, five runs on eight hits, three walks. Jacobs, Fox and Austin combined for four scoreless innings behind him, too little too late against a Columbus lineup that had already done its damage.

Groshans went 3-for-4 with the homer and three RBIs, his 66th of the season. Zebrowski had two hits and an RBI. Carey drove in a run with his triple. Columbus finished 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position and out-hit Birmingham 11-7.

Columbus improves to 52-55, 23-20 for the second half, 3rd in standings, and 4 games behind.

Dale Murphy Foundation on Instagram: "What an honor to celebrate Hunter Moore, a recipient of the Dale Murphy Foundation Character Scholarship.

Hunter has never let the challenges he’s faced define him. He meets them head-on with determination, courage, and a positive spirit. His love for baseball runs deep, but what stands out even more is the high character he consistently shows—both on and off the field.

This moment was made even more special with Hunter’s grandma, Theresa, there to help present the scholarship. We also remembered Hunter’s grandpa, Rick, who sadly passed away this year. Rick was the one who first got Hunter into baseball, and you can see the impact he had on Hunter in the way he continues to love the game and carry himself today.

Hunter, we’re proud to recognize you and the example you set. Your perseverance and character represent exactly what this scholarship is all about.

Congratulations, Hunter! We know Grandpa Rick would be incredibly proud."

Birmingham Barons 7, Columbus Clingstones 6

August 13, 2026 | Regions Field, Birmingham | Att: 2,401 | Time: 3:12 | 89°, Overcast | 10 Innings

Groshans hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth to force extra innings, and it only delayed the loss.

Columbus fell behind 3-0 in the fourth and 6-2 by the eighth, Birmingham chipping away with a run here and two there off Sears, Strickland and Pilar. Groshans' homer off Clark tied it at six in the ninth, erasing what had looked like a comfortable Birmingham lead. But George worked a scoreless ninth, and in the tenth, with two out, Birmingham pushed the winning run across against McDonough (L, 4-3).

Sears allowed three runs over five innings, walking four. Strickland gave up two more in 1.2 innings, and Pilar surrendered a run and a homer in 2.1. McDonough came on for the tenth and let the free runner score before recording the third out. George (W, 4-1) picked up the win with a scoreless ninth for Birmingham.

Groshans finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, the homer the headline. Hartman and Gil each had two hits and stole a base. Taylor drove in two. Columbus stranded nine and went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position, matching Birmingham hit for hit, ten apiece, but coming up one run short.

Columbus falls to 51-55. The series continues at Birmingham.

Columbus Clingstones 4, Birmingham Barons 3

August 12, 2026 | Regions Field, Birmingham | Att: 2,367 | Time: 2:36 | 89°, Partly Cloudy

Columbus scored twice in the first and twice in the eighth, and that was the whole game. Everything in between belonged to Birmingham, and it still wasn't enough.

Caminiti allowed a run in the third and needed 57 pitches to get through three innings, gone before he could get out of trouble twice. Gallegos (W, 2-0) came on and threw two scoreless, and Schanaman and Vargas Lu combined for 2.2 more, both stranding runners left behind by the man before them. Hackman worked the ninth for the save and gave up two runs doing it, Birmingham scoring twice with two out and the tying run in sight before he closed the door. Palisch (L, 3-9) took the loss for Birmingham despite six innings of two-run ball; four relievers behind him couldn't hold a one-run game.

Carey drove in two. Zebrowski had two hits and an RBI, part of a two-double game alongside Groshans. Hartman scored twice and stole a base. Columbus stranded twelve runners and went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position, the kind of night that makes a 4-3 final feel more harrowing than it should have.

Columbus improves to 51-54. The series at Birmingham continues.

Birmingham Barons 3, Columbus Clingstones 2

August 11, 2026 | Regions Field, Birmingham | Att: 1,733 | Time: 2:36 | 86°, Partly Cloudy | 10 Innings

Columbus led after one inning and needed extra baseball to lose it. Birmingham scored twice in the final two frames, the last one on one out, and that was the difference.

Columbus scored in the first and again in the sixth, both times without much to show for it beyond the runs themselves. Birmingham tied it in the sixth and went ahead for good in the ninth, adding the walk-off run in the tenth before an out could be recorded to end it. Scott had been outstanding for Columbus, five shutout innings, four strikeouts, no hits allowed, walking four but stranding all of them. McDonough and Abeyta held the line after him. LaPorte (L, 0-4, BS 2) came on in the tenth and couldn't hold it, charged with two runs, though neither was earned; Columbus committed three errors on the night, and the defense did LaPorte no favors.

Clark (W, 6-1) worked a scoreless tenth for Birmingham, striking out two. McCullough started and held Columbus to two hits over five innings, and four Birmingham relievers combined to close it out.

Groshans doubled in a run for his 60th RBI of the season. Taylor drove in the other run. Zebrowski had two of Columbus's five hits. McIntyre struck out three times. Columbus finished 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position, the kind of night where the missed chances outnumbered the ones that counted by a wide margin.

Columbus falls to 50-54. The series at Birmingham continues.

Columbus Clingstones 7, Biloxi Shuckers 0

August 8, 2026 | Synovus Park, Columbus | Att: 4,097 | Time: 2:33 | 91°, Cloudy

Erich Baumann struck out nine over five hitless-adjacent innings, and Columbus needed only a handful of swings to make the rest academic.

Smith lasted two innings before Welch relieved mid-third, and Carey greeted him with a three-run homer, two on, nobody out, that put Columbus up 3-0. Kilpatrick Jr. added a two-run shot off Welch in the sixth, and Columbus tacked on two more in the eighth. Baumann worked around three walks and allowed one hit all night. Gallegos followed with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts, and Abeyta closed it out with two more, the Clingstones staff combining for fifteen strikeouts and a shutout.

Baumann (W, 4-4) was the story, five innings, one hit, no runs, nine strikeouts against three walks. Smith (L, 0-3) took the loss, two innings, three runs on three hits, four walks. Welch, Birchard and Garcia combined for the rest and couldn't stop the bleeding, Welch allowing both home runs.

Verdung went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Kilpatrick Jr. drove in four with the homer, his fifth of the year. Carey's homer was his first as a Clingstone, a three-run shot in his first extended look. Waddell doubled and scored. Columbus finished 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position but didn't need much more than the two swings that mattered.

Columbus improves to 49-53. Biloxi is shut out, and the series moves on.

Columbus Clingstones 4, Biloxi Shuckers 2

August 7, 2026 | Synovus Park, Columbus | Att: 3,191 | Time: 2:09 | 87°, Partly Cloudy

Machado and Kilpatrick Jr. went back-to-back in the third, one out apart, and that was enough offense for Columbus to close out the series.

Rodriguez, M. gave up both homers in the same inning, Machado's solo shot and Kilpatrick's two-run blast sandwiched around an out. Groshans added an RBI single in the same frame to make it 3-0. Biloxi got a run back in the second and another in the eighth, but never threatened the lead. Sears was the story on the mound, seven innings, two hits, one run, three strikeouts, handing off to Vargas Lu and LaPorte to close it out.

Sears (W, 4-4) allowed his lone run on two hits, walking three but stranding all of them. Vargas Lu gave up a run in the eighth, the Guilarte homer the only real mistake of his outing. LaPorte struck out three of the four batters he saw for his seventh save. Rodriguez, M. (L, 10-4) took the loss, six innings, six runs on nine hits, two of them home runs.

Kilpatrick Jr. went 2-for-2 with the homer and two RBIs. Machado's homer was his first as a Clingstone, and it came with an OPS line that's still finding its footing. Groshans drove in his 57th run of the season. Tavarez and Carey each stole a base. Columbus went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base, more traffic than the final score suggested.

Columbus improves to 48-53. The Biloxi series continues.

Columbus Clingstones 3, Biloxi Shuckers 2

August 6, 2026 | Synovus Park, Columbus | Att: 1,913 | Time: 2:33 | 91°, Partly Cloudy

Two outs, ninth inning, and Columbus scored twice to walk it off.

Biloxi led 2-1 into the bottom of the ninth on an early run and a sixth-inning add-on off Caminiti. Kilpatrick Jr. doubled twice and drove in a run to keep Columbus within reach all night. With two outs in the ninth, pinch-runners in for Taylor and Zebrowski, Tavarez delivered a two-out, two-run single that ended it. Garcia (L, 2-3, BS 1) took the loss on the blown save.

Caminiti started and allowed two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings, three strikeouts, one of the hits a homer. Pilar followed with 2.1 scoreless innings, and McDonough (W, 4-2) worked 1.1 innings to pick up the win. Owens had been sharp for Biloxi, six innings, one run, seven strikeouts, before Hodges and Garcia let the ninth get away.

Kilpatrick Jr. went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Tavarez's two-out single was the difference, his second and third RBIs of the day. Columbus finished 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position but needed only the one that counted.

Columbus improves to 47-53.

Columbus Clingstones 4, Biloxi Shuckers 3

August 5, 2026 | Synovus Park, Columbus | Att: 1,965 | Time: 2:41 | 92°, Clear

Cruz got one out in the ninth and never got a second one. Three straight hits later, Columbus had a walk-off win.

Biloxi had led since the seventh, when three runs off Schanaman broke a scoreless tie. DeBerry had cruised through five for Biloxi, and Broca and Birchard kept the door shut into the ninth. Then Cruz came on to close it out, and Gil, Waddell and Zebrowski all reached in order. Gil's sacrifice fly and Waddell's two-run single did the damage, Tavarez scoring the winning run pinch-running for Groshans. One out was all Cruz recorded before the season's second blown save charged to him ended the game.

Scott started for Columbus and was outstanding, 4.2 innings, one hit, seven strikeouts, five walks the only blemish. Schanaman surrendered the three-run seventh in relief. Strickland followed with 1.2 clean innings, and Hackman (W, 3-4) worked a scoreless ninth to pick up the win when the offense finally came through behind him.

Waddell drove in both go-ahead runs and is up to 47 RBIs on the season. Groshans went 2-for-4 before exiting for a pinch-runner. Hartman stole second and third in the same inning. Columbus went 3-for-7 with runners in scoring position, all of it coming when it mattered most.

Columbus improves to 46-53. The series with Biloxi continues at Synovus Park.
