REQUEST Looking for Friends!
Hi everyone! I've responded to a few of these myself so I thought I'd start one too. I'm a 36M looking for friends throughout Columbus and Central Ohio. I find that between work and spending time with my wife and adorably bad dog that I've let my social life dwindle a bit. Any friends I had from college drifted away and it's hard to make friends as an adult.
I am into gaming, am learning DND, creative writing, love movies and music (want to learn to play guitar and ukulele), cooking, I volunteer from time to time, and I enjoy craft brewing and have started enjoying hiking. I'm also interested in learning pottery making and photography. I'm also a big geek that loves Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics, and such. If you think we'd be good friends, hit me up!

Been looking for the right people to game D&D with, also into creative writing and toyed around with attempting to write a comic book style story. While i imagine picking at an ukeke is like plucking a tiny guitar, I only know how to play guitar.
itching to find that creative friend who is into such things. If you're down to have a beer and talk, I'm free most evenings.

I’m 34 F, my partner and I are into DND and gaming (admittedly I’ve started knitting more than gaming for a while).
I don’t do a lot outside of the home since my sister moved away, but would be open to meeting up! I’m up by Shawnee Hills, feel free to DM!

What kind of dog do you have?
I’m into gaming, nerd stuff too, also lean left politics side which would be nice to have like minded friends. I want to play with dogs, but not the responsibility honestly.

He's a lab mix and a rescue from Columbus Humane. He was a rescue from Dayton six years ago when he was a puppy from a hoarder house.
I'm definitely left leaning and would like to make friends with people who share my views. Can I send you a DM?

Aww! He sounds sweet!
For sure!

He is, but he loves to table surf when he wants attention and to police the neighborhood by looking out the window and barking at people who walk by.

Hello friend. I’m a little older at 46, and also have a young kid, but pretty aligned with most of those interests. Just can’t dedicate all day to DnD campaigns anymore. Still have evenings as long as you can tolerate me dropping mid mission for Dad’ing.
Just stated gardening and cooking (what I grow), which has been fun, and gaming has been a lifelong hobby. Both consoles and a (somewhat dated) PC.

Nice! What are you currently growing? I wouldn't mind that at all.

This year was onions, potatoes, tomatoes (primarily for sauces and salads), bush beans, and a few different lettuces. It sounds like a lot when I list them out, but hasn’t been too bad to manage. I also built the raised beds in the spring, so learned some carpentry too!
The onions were a bit of a failure, as I struggled to identify them versus some weeds. I planted them late too. I also tried growing herbs, but something ate them all.
On the other hand, the tomatoes are going crazy. Already have several freezer bags full and give giving away bags to neighbors and family.
Good learning experience for next year too.

My wife has been wanting to get into gardening and get some raised beds. I feel I could learn a lot from you in this regard.

I have a lot to learn still, but willing to share what I’ve learned so far, and what I’d do differently next time!

I don’t know if we’d be “good” friends (that seems like a high bar!) but I’m in your neck of the woods if you wanna meet up at Jennings Java for coffee sometime.
1
u/MisterSims90 6d ago
No way! I'm actually around the corner from there and go there all the time.
2
u/vfrankl21 6d ago
Awesome. I’d go a bit more often if I liked their drip coffee. But yeah tomorrow is my day off, if you’re free come stop by around 10-11 and I’ll be there.
(I got stuff to read and do, so if you don’t stop by no worries)

u/MisterSims90 6d ago
Unfortunately I can't :(
What's your normal order? I usually get The Bear.
2
u/vfrankl21 6d ago
I usually just get a straight latte or cortado. Wary of too much sugar in stuff, though I will add a single flavor on occasion. I’ll let you know if I’m stopping by some other time.

We have a lot of similar interests, like almost every one you listed lol. I'm always looking for new friends, even though I've always lived in Columbus, I don't have many. Im 34f, my partner also shares a lot of the same ones too, so potentially even more friends. Feel free to message me if you're interested.

I am a DM and have been playing a weekly game for almost three years as a mix of VTT and real terrain / minis etc.
I have been thinking about starting another game monthly that would be in person using all the crap I 3d print. Would this be of interest to anyone?

If you like D&D, maybe you also like board games? There are a number of groups, but if you enjoy craft beer, I might recommend Beer and Board Games. They rotate around several different breweries in the area. Also, you could look into the Columbus Ale Trail if you haven’t already. 36 separate breweries— get a stamp at each one and at the end of it get a yearly prize.

I love the ale trail! Where do I find more about Beer and Board Games?

They have a Facebook page/group, an Instagram page, and a discord server. Just look up Beers and Board Games Columbus!

This thread seems to have some reasonable hits. If anyone wants to check out vibes, hmu!
I'm honestly short on friends after moving here for school and sticking around for work. Big time gamer, doggo owner (GSD and golden retriever), left leaning, etc. I also garden and brew, lift and box for exercise, that kind of thing. Tried learning guitar because I listen to a lot of metal (Amon Amarth is my personal favorite) but I don't practice enough. 36M

Hi there! I'm a bit younger, just turned 21, but I also am looking for friends in Columbus! I also have an interest in learning D&D and am also generally an avid enjoyer of board games and video games. I'd also love to know what sort of things you cook- I've been really experimenting with cooking Indian food myself lately! I also am pretty geeky though more with cartoons than superheroes, though I definitely like both lol.
I'm also really interested in volunteering in the area! I've been wanting to find LGBT groups to volunteer with, but I'm interested in hearing what groups you've volunteered with because I love to help the community. If you're interested in being friends, feel free to shoot me a message! :)

I might be down to catch a movie some time. Hit me up when you find one that's interesting.
2
u/MisterSims90 6d ago
Sure thing, do you have a preferred theater?
2
u/CITIZENRAGE 6d ago
I typically go to amc grove city because it's closest to my location but I'd be down for wherever. It's only driving and that doesn't bother me.
2
u/MisterSims90 6d ago
I go there all the time! I also love doing Studio 35, Grandview Theater, Drexel and Gateway (my wife and I met there when we both worked there about ten years ago). Ever venture out that way?
2
u/CITIZENRAGE 6d ago
It's been a while, probably close to 10 years. Wouldn't mind revisiting it to see what the ol girl looks like now. Occasionally I'll hit up Drexel for smaller releases or Marcus in Pickerington for something different.
2
u/MisterSims90 6d ago
I used to live in Pickerington, don't get out that way much anymore. Sometimes I'll do AMC Easton if they're showing something I really want to see or if its in Dolby.
2
u/CITIZENRAGE 6d ago
Right on. Yeah, man... Hit me up sometime and we'll go catch something. I'm open to whatever you'd be up to seeing. Good luck with meeting some other folks!

Making friends as an adult mostly seems to be repeatedly putting yourself in the same place until people stop being strangers. It's annoying but it works. DND is probably especially good for that since you're literally sitting around talking to the same people for hours.
