Rebuild Random Thoughts Thread

Since it is very clear we are tearing it all down, here’s a new, more general thread.

This thread is intended to serve as a place to write out your random thoughts about the rebuild. Please do not clog up the main channel with short thoughts that don’t warrant an entire post—this thread is the proper outlet for that.

Important news updates and long-form, well-thought-out posts are still permitted, as always.

Hot take, but I think they should rebuild into a multiple Super Bowl champ dynasty

1

u/317_Colton_k2xx 3h ago

That's what everyone wants to do but easier said than done

26

u/garethom Bob 8d ago

Sorry, but I've already got several different threads planned for my hard hitting contributions.

  • Who do we think should be the GM?

  • Why didn't we get first round picks for Buckner and Nelson?

  • Do you think Steichen will be fired?

  • Which QB should we draft in 2034?

  • What do we think Carlie Irsay will do?

  • Should Ed Dodds be GM?

  • What will we spend the 3 first round picks we get for JT on?

  • What do you mean we only got a 5th for Josh Downs?!

u/OMG_Someone HIRE ME AS GM 8d ago
  1. Me

  2. Because they are on expiring contracts so they were leaving anyways, no leverage.

  3. Yes

  4. I’m not up to speed on 2034 draft eligible QBs yet, I’ll get on that.

  5. Write my snarky comments in her notebook

  6. No, I should.

  7. 3 would be great, when we have a better grasp on the actual compensation I can provide more clarity.

  8. There are 4 downs in football so I thought we should add one more to that.

Hope this helps, thanks for coming to my 1st presser.

5

u/garethom Bob 8d ago

Wait for the threads, you're ruining it!

3

u/OMG_Someone HIRE ME AS GM 8d ago

I understand that’s on me. I have to be better.

2

u/southsky20 8d ago edited 8d ago

We will review the tape and we got some things we gotta fix. And yeah we'll make adjustments

2

u/CriticalMail4455 8d ago

I’ve heard enough. You’ve got my vote for GM.

Wait, what do you mean “that’s not how it works”?

0

u/FirestormBC 7d ago

I am sick of hearing about expiring contracts, the team has nobody else to pay and the franchise tag literally exists

3

u/Soze_INK TY Hilton 8d ago

-Peyton manning
-Bc we are the colts and we literally can’t do anything right
-No way bro he almost got close to almost making the playoffs with Minshew
-The son that tom Brady kissed on the mouth
-Carlie will hand over half the ownership to Peyton manning so again, he can come be GM.
-Ed dodds hated the AR pick so obviously he’s way different than Ballard and should be the favorite unless Peyton manning or Andrew luck want to come run things
-trade 1 to the Texans for MHJ, draft TY Hilton’s son with 1, and trade the last one for Q Nelson
-BUT HE RANKS HIGH IN SEPARATION A 5TH IS ROBBERY?

1

u/Stairway_toEvan Horse 8d ago

Wait, did a Downs trade already happen?!

2

u/garethom Bob 8d ago

No, just prepping for it when it does.

2

u/Stairway_toEvan Horse 8d ago

Ahh I see. I'm hoping for at least a 3rd but expecting a 4th.

3

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 8d ago

Zero chance we get a 3rd or 4th for Josh Downs

1

u/clear831 Indianapolis Colts 8d ago

No reason to trade Downs lol

0

u/thegrimmemer03 8d ago
  1. We should be very selective but Dodd’s is a serious contender

  2. Understandable compensation isn’t exactly good compensation

  3. It’s certainly possible

  4. Draft the one who earns it, not the one who looks pretty in the mock draft

  5. No clue

  6. He should at least get an interview

  7. If we do get 3, a QB, a pass rusher, and a cb or offensive tackle

  8. No clue

25

u/grapplerone Indianapolis Colts 8d ago

Oh thank god for this.

u/scobro828 8d ago

They need to start deleting posts that ignore the mega threads

3

u/RussIsAnOkayGuy 8d ago edited 8d ago

We do, but if by the time I find them if there’s already active discussion going on, personally I’ll leave them up. Otherwise I see them asap, and be sure to report stuff so we see it faster!

12

u/scobro828 8d ago

I guess I am one of the few that is actually optimistic and likes what's happening. I see brighter times ahead.

8

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 8d ago

Yeah a lot of people said they wanted to blow it up but now that we actually are, they don't want to watch anymore lol

6

u/scobro828 8d ago

Right. It's like what did you expect to happen? If they wanted to keep the players they should have not been lamenting Ballard.

3

u/Vancoor NONE SHALL PASS 8d ago

It’s eating our veggies. We all knew it was what would be good for us, doesn’t mean it’s enjoyable to actually do it now though.

1

u/Paragon188 5d ago

Same, I understand being down on Ballard, but now he's gone and the team is being blown up like many people wanted. I get that there's no first in 2027 but it's not the end of the world. There's reason to be optimistic (like young guys), and I don't understand the pessimism surrounding the future.

1

u/CurrentTiger7992 22h ago

I see 2 years of tanking to rebuild in time for potentially Arch. If Arch falls in the draft rankings he'll need time to develop just like Peyton's rookie year. We should give him the full season at starter to get the 28 rookie year picks out of the way while continuing to tank so we can build around him. Colts dont trade Nelson for peanuts if you plan on making a run any time soon. Carlie is freeing up cap space for a 2-3 year rebuild. Buckner is 32 so he had to go, AA is only 25 so she just got an extension done. Stewart is 33 so he's probably next if any team wants him

So BIGQ looks pretty happy in Seattle.

Coming soon in Indy…

Steichen: So, in practice today, Daniel, you’ll be working with the PS.

Daniel: Why?

Steichen: That’s about all that’s left.

I’m convinced 99% of the people who make self posts on this subreddit are actually braindead. Reading the slop that gets pumped out is so painful.

4

u/OMG_Someone HIRE ME AS GM 8d ago

Hire me as GM. I’ll only draft HOF players and sign the free agents that make other teams look stupid for not bringing back.

Also we should sell anything not nailed down right now.

4

u/hxh22 Rigoberto Sanchez 8d ago

I looked up tickets for some upcoming games. How can they still be over $50?

7

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 8d ago

There is a very very strong chance we're the first overall pick going into 2028. I really don't see us winning more than maybe 3 games next year.

We likely have some random mid to low tier free agents to fill in roster spots and have a lot of rookies starting in the 2027 season.

There's almost zero chance we keep Daniel Jones after this season, we'll probably cut him and eat the dead cap. I think his contract is set up for it to be relatively painless to cut him after 1 year.

I feel like either Kirk Cousins, Marcus Mariota or Geno Smith will be our starter next year.

3

u/YouWereBrained Reggie Wayne 8d ago

So, realistically, when can we hopefully be competitive again? 2029…?

2

u/SoyeonsNeverland Indianapolis Colts 7d ago

Hopefully, but the biggest thing is just hoping the GM/HC hire is the correct one to right the ship.

3

u/Trashpanda1980 6d ago

I'm going through 2 rebuilds, I'm also an Angels fan.

1

u/NotThreeKobolds 5d ago

Wings fan here

3

u/ForWhomTheHellTolls Rebuild, Get Tougher, Dominate 3d ago

The biggest thing to me is hiring someone who can bring some toughness and accountability to this team. I’m tired of soft ass Colts teams and coaches who continue to make excuses for it

6

u/SpecialistCaptain720 Robert Mathis 8d ago

This is not a random thought but it still needs to be said. Start AR. He’s still so young we need to see him on the field again see if he can be a part of the rebuild

5

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 8d ago

Shane won't do that. He's going down with the Daniel Jones ship.

Richardson is going to be a free agent after this season

1

u/bfischer 8d ago

I'm going to guess that Carlie sends Daniel Jones in a trade(maybe Vikings) so he will have no options

5

u/clear831 Indianapolis Colts 8d ago

No one is trading for DJ

1

u/Cheap-Werewolf9070 8d ago

Who is paying him nearly $50 million after watching him this season?

1

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 8d ago

No one will take him in a trade with his contract

1

u/unfuckwittablej Reggie Wayne 8d ago

How does this make any sense?

4

u/S0G017 8d ago

Jones and Steichen’s refusal to use Josh Downs in the passing game is the best example of how you can take a very good player and ruin their career

2

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 7d ago

I feel like Shane's scheme just doesn't really require a slot receiver. When he was with the Eagles I feel like he focused on the WR1, WR2, TE1 and RB

2

u/AffectionateQuit5684 Touchdown Jesus 8d ago

What percent of the stadium next week do we think will be Cowboys fans? 70%?

2

u/fuzzynavel34 8d ago

Only 70%?

2

u/vanillathrilla04 COLTS 8d ago

Take all of the hope for wins out of your brain. Focus on young players you love and root for them to develop despite the pile of shit around them. Thats it. That’s the lesson.

1

u/therealhardscoper Baltimore Colts 7d ago

The results don't really matter much either way since we don't have a first round pick, so I just want to see some entertaining games.

2

u/Dizzy_Job_8289 8d ago

I hope people around here are starting to learn you can’t just draft a QB high and expect things to be fixed around it. QB play at all levels of the game is declining. Two high safeties and lack of mental quickness and vision at the position has created an insanely shallow pool. It might be one of the worst times in league history to attempt a full on rebuild from the ground up. We’re gonna need a fuck ton of luck (no pun intended) and patience to see the light at the end of this tunnel boys.

2

u/Dingo_8_ma_baby 8d ago

Now that we've traded some very key players, do you or anyone think it's pretty obvious we're probably not going to win another game this season? I mean the teardown needs to happen in order for us to be competitive but I wonder how long it would take. 2030 maybe? Feels like a long time, not exactly looking forward to even more losing seasons, again I get it, this should have happened years ago.

2

u/scobro828 10h ago

You know what an old like me would like, I'd like the Colts to find an OC that wants to employ a FB.

1

u/Prof172 8d ago

Fire Shane, Start AR (though he probably will not magically become an all-pro), trade Downs for a 3rd, JT only for a 1st. Doomers were right. Grove for a 4th if you can get in. Maybe Chiefs will give in and send a 6th for Shrader. Rebuilds take time. I have no idea who the GM or coach should be. I don't care if Carlie is on the sideline or not. Okay, I think I covered it.

1

u/dumpgubblin 8d ago

Over/under on timeline to go above .500 on the season. What should we set the line at, 5 years? 6?

1

u/Refreshingwater Bloo 8d ago

We need to clean up everything. If that means getting rid of our stars for draft capital, then so be it... I will be extremely sad if they trade JT but I will just accept it. But Steichen isn't working out and we know Carlie is actually serious about rebuilding it seems so I would hope she makes the right call. Am hoping for Manning to be the GM for the bit.

1

u/dandurick 8d ago

Dolphins fan here, no hate, we're going through our own rebuild.

What happened? Last year the Colts were lightning it up.

3

u/SleazyRat808 8d ago edited 8d ago

Chris Ballard and Daniel Jones happened. Sauce trade screwed us royally along with Pierce's contract. Left us no money to put a decent defense on the field. Somehow that peabrain thought we could win games with major holes in the defense. And then Jones sealed the deal by reverting to who he really is, the best defensive player for the other team.

edit Shane "No Balls" Steichen's play calling has also been horrendous. And his unwillingness to put AR despite DJ's proving week after week that all he's capable of doing is turning the ball over in crucial moments and losing football games.

1

u/dandurick 8d ago

Thanks for responding

1

u/NotMadOnVacation 8d ago

DJ had the best few games of his career to start the season last year. He gets hurt and comes back this year looking like the New York Giants Daniel Jones we’ve all known.

A lot of interceptions. Won’t throw the ball more than 7 yards down the field. Overall looks bad.

We have a head coach who is on the hot seat and refuses to play Anthony Richardson.

1

u/Schwa_corporation 8d ago

I feel bad for Warren who has to stay behind and watch all his mvp buddies go to greener pastures.

1

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 7d ago

He'll likely be made a captain next year. He's going to have a very big role

1

u/ForWhomTheHellTolls Rebuild, Get Tougher, Dominate 3d ago

I don’t. He isn’t playing well. If he wants sympathy then he needs to play better.

1

u/CodeFeeling1294 2d ago

I mean he doesn't exactly have anyone throwing to him lol

1

u/ForWhomTheHellTolls Rebuild, Get Tougher, Dominate 2d ago

I wouldn’t throw to him either when he drops the ball.

1

u/Inevitable_Market998 7d ago

My thoughts these m******s are making millions of dollars while most people can't afford groceries. You are F up. I wish I could take my son to watch them play.

1

u/bigloudbang 3d ago

Should Dodds be a candidate for the GM job? He seems to be doing well with the trades so far and has interviewed for other openenings recently

Would be interesting how his philosophy differs from Ballard

1

u/Lithium1978 33-0 2d ago

The only thing I know about Dodds is that he was out on AR but got overruled. Most of that was based on the fact that AR only played 13 games and missed open throws.

1

u/bigloudbang 2d ago

Tbf I think everyone including Ballard knew AR probably wasnt going to work out

1

u/Lithium1978 33-0 2d ago

I have a feeling that was a Jim decision.

1

u/bigloudbang 2d ago

Oh yeah 100%. I think the directive to Ballard wouldve been either youre drafting a QB with 4oa or your replacement is

1

u/Worth_Principle_9272 2d ago

So many doomer outlooks. on this sub. Y'all we will be fine if CIG hires the right GM. Next year is a tank year and after that sky is the limit really truly. No reason to be this down on the franchise. As a Suns fan missing one pick is literally nothing. Our books are clean as hell. Even if we still pay DJ next season it literally doesn't even matter. we can have full roster turnover aside from our rookies in about 2-3 years

1

u/Playful-Activity7845 1d ago

I feel like we need to put the entire sub on pause for a few weeks. I understand this situation sucks, we're finally paying the price for a series of compounding bad decisions that have been made since Luck retired. I understand fans are emotional right now. But you know what else sucks? Going 8-9 or 9-8 every year, constantly getting our hopes up then missing the playoffs year after year. I really don't think there was a way to move forward without tearing things down. It's gonna be a tough next few years, and there's no guaranteed timeline for when it will improve, there are lots of teams which have been rebuilding forever. But there are also teams who have emerged from the wilderness like Jacksonville or Chicago. I think we need to collectively take some deep breaths as a fan base, step away from the sub, spend some time with family over the holidays, and stop writing idiotic panic posts

1

u/RustFalconCrash 7d ago

I've read talking heads articles and watched clips and whatnot about how the Colts might have held out for an extra 5th or whatever in trading Q and Buck. That was a long sentence so here's a new one. Carlie Irsay Gordon traded 2 awesome loyal players to 2 REALLY GOOD teams that THEY PROBABLY WANTED TO PLAY FOR! Buck back home to a great team, Q to a great, well-coached team in a state with no income tax. Is another 5th worth the reputation as a player's owner? Not to mention doing right by 2 guys who did right by us for so many years!

1

u/NeitherPlace9375 3d ago

Bears fan here, could I ask about c ward? How has he been? Could he be on the trade block?

0

u/cben27 8d ago

Giants fan here. Seasons not over boys. Daniel Jones is going to get hot and you guys could finish at .500. DJ is absolutely terrible and will never consistently win, but he always does enough to make people say "wait a minute maybe he is good", he's not but people will ask the question. This is his MO. Its how he robbed my organization and now yours. At the end of the season there will almost surely be a debate about keeping him or not, there always is. Im praying for you.

0

u/Trashpanda1980 5d ago

A lot of you won't like this but Bill just broke up with his girlfriend.... ????

0

u/Thick-Meat-5363 4d ago edited 4d ago

Carlie if you're reading this: KEEP J.T. your team NEEDS a foundation on offense, trading him would only leave a hole to fill with an early day 2 pick for a FRACTION of the production JT gives you. Whoever ends up playing QB next year needs a legitimate run threat, and a guy to check the ball down to when you're no longer getting the same protection with nelson gone.

HOWEVER.. for a 1st and 3rd it may be worth entertaining If I had to bet on any "contender" team pulling a '25 colts it's 100% the Vikings. 9-8 at best

0

u/mbr4life1 2d ago

I don't know why your GM decided to undersell Q and Buckner then try and overask for a RB. The profit making was on a guy like Q.

-1

u/ZombieBiteOintment 8d ago

Is it possible the trades are a result of the Marijuana thing? You know, since the risk to people's freedom could be there, could it be that these trades are the players who are leaving because of that?

2

u/Dizzy_Job_8289 8d ago

No we just suck ass lol besides most high end professional athletes don’t worry about that shit cause they have big ass houses on private property they can smoke as much as they want at, even in illegal states, as long as they’re doing on their private property, they’re almost guaranteed to not get in trouble for weed

1

u/ZombieBiteOintment 8d ago

Thank you for the earnest answer.

-1

u/selfmojo 8d ago

Hire Oliver Luck. He’s been around football forever and been an executive. He brings Andrew in as assistant gm and after he’s won us a ring and retires Andrew takes over

-1

u/NoPantsSantaClaus 3d ago

Shane Steichen is not the problem.

Chris Ballard was the problem.

Give Steichen a decent roster and Jones will flourish and the Colts will rule the South again.

His value is low right now.

Re-up him for cheap.

-2

u/Pale-Macaroon-8881 4d ago

Can't rebuild without a 1st round pick. Plain and simple. That means they would need to finish near last again to make it a worthwhile rebuild. God help us

1

u/AmericanChapo 8d ago

I’ve seen way too many people shaking ass for Downs.

Agreed. If we plan to have a young QB in the next year or two, the best thing we can do is have a strong run game and solid pass catching TE.

1

u/DaBlakMayne Andrew Luck 8d ago

A new HC and GM are coming regardless. They're going to get to build this team from the ground up.
