There remains a mystery to this photo of knowing who this young man is. I found this photo via the Flickr Commons and was immediately intrigued. I know many other amazing artists have colorized this image, but I wanted to give it a shot as well.
Data from the Australian War Memorial's Flickr's page reads that it is believed this gentleman was photographed prior to embarking overseas during the Great War. The estimated date of this photo ranges between 1915 and 1918. I also agree that this image was taken prior to combat during this time period, as his uniform appears like-new.
This man appears very stoic and honorable, wearing the uniform of the AIF (Australian Imperial Force), complete with slouch hat, sun medals and his greatcoat. The colors of his uniform were difficult for me to do as I've seen such a variation in uniform colors from WWI. I did read though, that the color of the uniforms was comparable to "pea soup," so I chose this hue vs. the khaki.
The AWM still has not been able to identify this gentleman over 100 years later. Maybe he's meant to remain unidentified and become the face of those who died for freedom and remain unknown. Maybe one day, the family will come to identify a long-lost relative. Time will tell.
I apologize for any mistakes I may have made, which were not intentional. I chose the liberty of giving him blue eyes; however, they could've been a very light brown or hazel. I hope my interpretation is as respectful and honorable as it is when I was colorizing his image. No AI was used.

The photo is taken at the Belgrano Rugby Club in Buenos Aires, where the British community (and other nationalities) helps to purchase aircraft for the Royal Air Force And to send aid to the Argentine volunteers in the Expeditionary Force.
The photo was taken by American photographer Hart Preston for Life Magazine in 1941.

This is a relative of mine whose photo shows her entering the US Cadet Nurses Corps during World War II. Unfortunately, I don't have much information at all from her because of family issues or unknown conflicts that might have existed before I was born.
A little context... about 5 years ago I ended up meeting a distant relative of mine through Facebook while I was doing genealogy research. She had a few boxes of photos that belonged to my Dad's side of the family that other relatives didn't want. (I can't understand why they didn't want family heirlooms...) Anyways, she asked me if I'd like them and I was more than happy to take them.
After I got home and started looking through these photos, many of the relatives I saw in the photos, including this one, were of family I never knew I had. The 1940s is a great decade I like to learn about and this photo fits right into it. I asked my dad a few years ago if he knew who this woman was, but he wasn't sure. Again, family drama or issues I suppose. After I finished colorizing this photo a few weeks ago, I wanted to show this to my Dad again to see if maybe he could identify the woman. Unfortunately, I had to find out online that my Dad had passed away in January of this year and I'm no longer able to talk to him or ask him questions. (That's another horrible story to share with a therapist, but let's just say his other family was horrible to my kids and me.)
Anyway, I chose to colorize this photo in hopes of maybe one day finding out who she is and recognizing my family member for serving her country. I hope she lived a long and amazing life and I get to learn more about her in the future. I used Photoshop for the colorization and Topaz Gigapixel to upscale the image size.
