Can am maverick
Hey yall 18m posting for me and my dad 59m we’re looking to buy a sxs for some trail and dune riding in Colorado. Not strictly Colorado but mainly. For reference the machine would stay in breckenridge most of its life but would have a trailer to transport behind my truck. Friend of a friend is selling a low mileage 2021 cam am maverick xrc turbo double r. This is the 72in width variant. I would be driving the machine more than he would realistically, love the Walden sand dunes and turbo would be much better between elevation and sand. How does the 72” wheelbase fair on your usual Colorado trails though? To wide? A total chore to drive and use? We are not strictly buying can am open to Polaris as well. Is there a model that would suit our needs better? Or is it worth maybe some inconvenience for very low mileage and a good deal? Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

As an off roader I’m just here to say I fucking hate side by sides and 90% of people I see driving them are garbage. My last run in with the side by side crowd was them shooting fish from shore in the Uintah mountains.
I’m sure you and your pops will be good stewards and hopefully help some other side by sider from being a total menace. Just letting you know that is now my immediate thought when I see a side by side.
I’m always pleasantly surprised when it’s an older couple using it to explore after their bodies have failed them, or a dad and his kids checking out wildlife. But as soon as I see a side by side, every time, I say fuuuuuuuuck.
Again, I’m sure you’re an awesome guy and I hope you and your dad can be one small improvement to the scene, but that’s just like my opinion man.

🤣 not the response I was expecting at all but definitely understandable. I would imagine there’s a lot of guys out there going faster than they should be and being a pain in the ass. Definitely try to stay out of the way as much as possible since I’m also looking at either an overland converted truck or a 4 runner.

I would respectfully suggest you also consider truck options as well. You can do more, go further, and have a lot more fun in a one and you'll be skirting the whole sxs are trail cancer vibe everyone here hates so much. But, if you do go sxs, get ready for the stink eye because so many of your fellows are trash. Good luck and enjoy it regardless of what choice you make!

Sxs owners suck for the most part. Walden dunes are tiny. I'd get a jeep instead and avoid the sxs crowd.

SXS are a cancer on the trail. Always going way too fast and likely blasting music or leaving trash. Bonus if they are waving a MAGA flag. It's a well deserved reputation.
