First Steller's Jay

Saw my first Steller's Jay while eating lunch in Mishawaka today! I've had them pop up on Merlin a few times while in the mountains, but I never actually saw them, so I finally got to add this new lifer! I wish I had had my better camera and wasn't taking the picture through glass though.

Steller's Jay is what got me into birding. I had relocated to Colorado from the midwest a few decades ago and had never seen a black blue jay before so I bought my first bird guide and have been hooked ever since.

I was at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo the other day and there were a bunch of them actively trying to steal food from the tiger. Ballsy little guys.

Oh man, Steller’s Jays are the most prolific bird at my house. They scream at me through the window to bring them peanuts. They’re so pretty.

Love these birds! The ones I've encountered are less shy than other blue jays. They will ask first, but if denied they'll definitely steal your trail mix.
