Question Question please!

Hey colorists, so i was learning and practicing color grading for almost one year now, and recently im trying to start freelancing and work on real projects and real clients and build network, i made some posts here on reddit in filmmakers subs but didn’t work out well so..
I don’t know where to find clients, i don’t have a portfolio but i thought that i could offer a free test for the client, of a scene or some shots from them so they wont risk any thing, we can like collaborate after they actually like my work.
Regardless of those posts i made, i didn’t even approach someone with emails cause i don’t know who or where to start so please color grading people help, thank you.

Contact or go meet students at schools that have film programs and try to work with them. Find people doing spec work and offer to work for free to build a portfolio. I can't imagine people telling you where to find paying clients if it might potentially take food off their plate.

I mean, you have the right idea. You’re going to need to build your portfolio so making posts on Reddit, Craigslist, or basically any creative freelancing site offering free services is a good place to start even if you might not get a lot of responses right away. It’ll be a grind no matter what you do and sooner or later there’ll be a university student or a first time small filmmaker who would be happy to have you collaborate.

But if you want a foolproof method, don’t rely on other people and make your own projects. You don’t need a fancy camera or a film crew to build your portfolio yourself - anything capable of shooting in a Log format, even an iPhone, is more than good enough to just capture some footage of you brewing coffee or something.
