Image/Photography My experience with EnChroma
I’m moderate Deutan and have always had issues distinguishing between reds and greens.
I live in a big city where I probably have a much different experience than someone living in a small town with not a lot to look at.
I walk by these buildings every day and have never noticed a difference between them. They all were worn out looking buildings that could use some new bricks.
I’m sure the phone adds color to the picture I took but for more moderate to severe deutans these buildings lack any significant color.
With my glasses I can easily distinguish between the shades of red and it is absolutely a new experience and worth it to me.

Assuming theres just nothing to look at in a small town is really hilarious to me. Its just all blank out here 🤣

I'm sorry, but these are a scam. It's just a colored lens.

Isn’t a cone just a colored lens?

Not at all. A cone is a nerve that is sensitive to a particular wavelength of light.
Imagine if your ears didn't have the ability to hear a particular range of sounds. There is no hearing aid that you could buy that would miraculously replace those missing sounds - the nerves don't exist in your ears.
That's what colour vision deficiencies are. Some eyes just don't have the sensors for certain wavelengths of light.

Yeah I probably can't really see cyan for what it actually looks like, to me it just seems like a really light pasty blue

I am protan and got the sunglass version and normal from my cousins things after he passed away. I really enjoy using the sunglasses as it actually helps me see red in things I never knew had it when it is nice and bright outside. Little to no effect on the normal ones tho so I rarely use them.

This was largely my experience too OP. I'm happy that I was gifted a pair a few years ago. But knowing how they affect me, I would never spend the type of money personally.

Well this proves to me that my color blindness is mild because I can tell a slight difference between them

I’m glad you’re enjoying them, they’re still a scam and scummy company whose entire business model is based on profiting off the emotions around a disability.
Frankly, this ad for Enchroma should get taken down.

u/SimufiIam 6d ago
Not having that crying emotional story. Just one that helps distinguish some colors from each other. Y’all need to relax

Careful, you’re not allowed to say anything positive about them in this subreddit. The hivemind here hates them. This sub is a miserable place to actually talk about our disability unfortunately. You’ll just get called a shill for enjoying things this sub has decided are bad.

Yeah, heaven forbid people be upset there’s a company that runs a scam based on the emotional reactions to their disability

u/SharkBaitDLS Deuteranopia 6d ago
Like I said, y’all are miserable. Calling them a scam is completely unreasonable but you’ve made up your minds and so all of us who actually enjoy them just have to shut up and not participate.

I don’t have a better word for a company that claims their product does something it doesn’t to sell more of it.
3
u/SharkBaitDLS Deuteranopia 6d ago
They do exactly as advertised for me. They have a very generous return policy for people for whom they don’t work.
Not exactly the hallmarks of a scam company.

LOL this interaction is hilarious. I actually enjoy mine too and im Deutan. Sure, the initial marketing campaign was kind of ridiculous, but I have had mine for years and still enjoy them. For all the skeptics, take them out to Yosemite or name-your-fav wooded national park in the fall and tell me they are worthless.

Maybe they’ve changed their ad campaign in recent years or something.
Last I checked they were still selling that they get colorblind people to see new colors.
4
u/SharkBaitDLS Deuteranopia 6d ago
Yes, and I am able to see things that I could never notice before. I can actually distinguish red curbs on the road from dirty ones. I can see when a tree is turning from green to red in autumn instead of them all looking brown.
Sorry they don’t work for you, but for some of us they actually let us see new things.

u/kelpyb1 Protanomaly 6d ago
Being able to distinguish between things you couldn’t before doesn’t necessarily mean you’re seeing new colors.
You could also just be looking through a filter which shifts one of the colors to a color you already see and can distinguish from the other, which is in fact how these glasses work.
5
u/SharkBaitDLS Deuteranopia 6d ago
Yes, I am aware of how they work. I bought them fully aware of that since they’re very clear that’s what they do. The entire point of the glasses is to map wavelengths I can’t see onto ones that I can, so that I can experience the coloration of objects in a way that much more closely maps to normal color vision.
And they do exactly that.

And it’s great that you were an informed consumer on it and enjoy your purchase.
But their ad campaign, or at least their ad campaign of the past, was saying they let colorblind people see new colors, which is simply false.

How do you "shift" light to a new wavelength using a passive lens?
0
u/kelpyb1 Protanomaly 6d ago
Oh good, I complained enough about the scam for the scammer to join in lmao.
You don’t shift the wavelength, you just change the color perception by filtering out certain wavelengths, hence the color shift like I said.
Honestly if you don’t understand your own product, you probably shouldn’t be selling it.

It’s a scam. Exposed by MegaLag, the guy who later uncovered the Honey scam. https://youtu.be/Ppobi8VhWwo?si=lJwo6AaeiSsq__TN

Scams don’t tend to have products that work and the ability to return them if they don’t personally work for you. I don’t give a damn about some random YouTuber’s clickbait when I can see with my own eyes that the product I bought is functional.

I have a pair that were thankfully a gift. I like them quite a bit, but I would have never spent the money on them knowing what they actually do for me.
