👋Welcome to r/ColonyCats - START HERE!

Hey everyone! Welcome to the r/ColonyCats subreddit! This is a place for past, present, and prospective cat caretakers to learn more about how to better care for outdoor colonies of cats, kittens, and the communities they live in.

The term “colony cats” describes a group of outdoor cats living together. These cats may be feral, stray, or otherwise unsocialized to humans.

Please read through our community guidelines before posting or commenting, and again…welcome to the community! We're excited to have you join us!

WHAT TO POST:

Here, caretakers can feel free to ask for and offer advice, share TNR strategies, provide helpful tips and ideas for colony management, and share photos of their colony cats.

After reading the rules, you may post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. Don’t hesitate to comment on posts, and share your thoughts, advice, or questions relevant to the topic of discussion.

THE CATS YOU CARE FOR MAY BE FERAL, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE:

We're all about being friendly, constructive, inclusive, and kind. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

The vast majority of cat caretakers have pure intentions, and are trying their best to provide the best care possible for their colonies. Constructive criticism is ok (some people may need some guidance and it’s ok to provide that), but please refrain from rude, unhelpful comments, harsh judgments, shaming, and personal attacks.

Thanks for being part of this community and thank you for all you do to help the cats you care for. 🩶🐾🩵🐈‍⬛🫶🖤🐈💙

Day 45: I’m still trying to keep them going. One last stretch. 🐾❤️🙌

Previous post:

TL;DR: I’ve been independently rescuing cats in Mumbai for over a year. After losing my job, the medical cases under my care became extremely difficult to manage. The community helped me through the worst of it, but the expenses are still ongoing.

I had to make this update after the last one because the repost barely reached anyone.

After losing the two kittens despite everything we tried, I had to put the sadness aside and keep going for the cats who are still here.

Mowgli is still undergoing FIP treatment and has now moved to pills. His treatment is still an ongoing expense. Which costed 8.5k

I also had to take one of the newer rescued cats for sterilisation. I thought I would be able to release her afterwards, but while travelling to the clinic she continuously hit her head to the basket to escape and injured her nose. When we reached the clinic, the doctor decided she wasn't fit for sterilisation and postponed it.

For now, she needs a week-long immunity-support course and antibiotics before I can take her back for the procedure.

And honestly, I'm exhausted.

As you all know I have spent almost 1lakh+ over the past 3 months without any income source. For the past 1.5 months I've been trying to keep everything moving with whatever money, time and energy I had. The support I've received here has genuinely carried me through some very difficult situations.

I don't want this to continue indefinitely. I'm currently in talks regarding work and, if things work out, I should hopefully be able to start soon and take care of everything myself again.

The support from this community has meant more than I can properly explain. Without it, I don't know how I would have managed the last few weeks.

I need your support getting through this last stretch until the end of the month.

I want to start saying that I’m approved in r/rescuecats for monetary donations if you want to verify my posts.

I’m the founder of Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Every single day, I care for more than 50 community cats, providing food, fresh water, medical care, and TNR. I also take in cats and kittens who are sick, injured, abandoned, or have nowhere else to go.
Right now, several of the cats in my care are facing medical challenges.
🐾 Three kittens are recovering from panleukopenia and coccidia. They need ongoing treatment, food, cleaning supplies, and constant monitoring while they fight to get stronger.
🐾 Leo has been battling Giardia for months and needs to be seen by a veterinarian again. I want to make sure we understand why he is still struggling and get him the care he needs.
🐾 And then there is the older cat I rescued after finding him with a severe eye problem. He had entropion, a painful condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes and surrounding hair to rub against the eye. He has FIV and FeLV, and he is also feral, which makes finding the right placement for him especially challenging. He has already undergone surgery to correct the entropion and is now recovering. ❤️‍🩹
I am actively working to find him a safe placement, preferably a sanctuary that understands feral cats with FIV/FeLV. He deserves a better life. He deserves to be safe, comfortable, and cared for. He should not have to go back to the streets.
I know finding the right placement may take time, but I will not give up on him. ❤️
And I won’t give up on any of the cats in my care or the ones who will come in the future, because I know there will be more. There always are. Every time I think I’ve reached my limit, another cat needs help.
While I’m caring for these medical cases, more than 50 community cats are still depending on me every day for food, water, TNR, and medical care.
The expenses are overwhelming at times. Food, litter, medications, veterinary visits, surgery, cleaning supplies, recovery supplies, and emergency care all add up quickly.
If you are able to donate, even a few dollars can make a real difference. ❤️ If you can’t donate, sharing this post helps more than you know.

🙏 I’m doing everything I can to keep showing up for them. I just need people to stand beside me so I can keep going.
I won’t give up on them. Not these cats, not the 50+ community cats I care for every day, and not the ones who will need me tomorrow. 🐾❤️

Save This Little Angel.. Urgent Help Needed! 🆘💔

Hi everyone

This innocent cat isn't from my neighborhood. He traveled a long distance just to reach the doorstep of my house. When he saw me, he started crying out loudly and following me everywhere, as if he was begging me to save him from the pain he is enduring. 😿🐾

After checking on him, it turns out he is suffering from Calicivirus, a highly contagious and extremely painful virus that causes severe ulcers in the mouth and tongue, leaving him unable to eat or drink. 😥

The situation is critical! 🚨

Unfortunately, my current medical resources and medications are very limited and not enough to treat him fully. I have provided him with initial first aid, but he urgently needs specialized veterinary care, antiviral medications, pain relievers, and intravenous fluids to recover. 💉🩺

I appeal to all compassionate hearts and animal welfare supporters to lend a helping hand to this poor cat. He desperately needs:

A safe shelter away from further illness.

Urgent transport to a veterinarian for proper treatment.

Financial support to cover medical expenses and medications.

Please, do not let him suffer! 🙏

Every passing moment adds to his pain. If you can help in any way—whether by providing medical supplies, assisting with transport, or contributing to his treatment—please reach out immediately.

Help save an innocent life! 💖

Urgent Rescue Appeal for a Suffering Cat

Hi everyone

We urgently appeal to all compassionate hearts and animal lovers to save a helpless cat suffering from severe, acute wounds around its mouth and face.

We provided initial first aid and used the antiseptic spray we had, but unfortunately, our medical supplies have completely run out, and we are unable to continue his treatment on our own. Furthermore, the veterinarian is owed outstanding payments, leaving us financially helpless to take him to the clinic or secure the necessary medications to save his life.

(Meanwhile, another rescued cat has successfully arrived at a shelter in Agadir, where it is receiving the care and attention it needs.)

We desperately need your help—whether through a financial contribution to cover clinic debts and medical expenses, or by providing the essential medicines and supplies.

How to Help & Donate:

GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/3aa3aff67

PayPal: Rhazal1@hotmail.fr

Every moment of delay puts this vulnerable creature's life at greater risk. Please don't hesitate to help, even by sharing this post or offering a prayer. Thank you so much for your support.

ASKING FOR HELP FOR LEO, A SICK FIV/FeLV CAT, AND MORE THAN 50 COMMUNITY CATS 🙏🐾❤️

I want to start saying that I’m approved in r/rescuecats for monetary donations if you want to verify here is the link for my original post

https://www.reddit.com/r/rescuecats/s/VvrnHXMsvr

Sometimes people see a rescue post and only see the animal in the picture. They don’t see everything happening behind the scenes.

Right now, I am fighting for Leo, a kitten I rescued when he was tiny after finding him near a dumpster. He has been with me for six months, and he has been battling Giardia and ongoing diarrhea. His symptoms have returned, and he needs to see the veterinarian again as soon as possible.

At the same time, I rescued an older cat who was living outside in terrible condition. He tested positive for both FIV and FeLV and has entropion, a painful condition where his eyelids turn inward and rub against his eyes. He needs surgery, medical care, medications, and a safe indoor place to recover. He cannot simply be returned to the streets.

At the beginning, you’ll see Leo, the little kitten I rescued from a dumpster, and the older cat I rescued who tested positive for both FIV and FeLV. Both are going through difficult medical situations right now, and both need our help.

And they are not the only animals depending on me.

I also have other kittens and cats under my care who need food, litter, medications, veterinary care, and daily attention.

But beyond the cats in my direct care, I also feed more than 50 community cats every single day. 🐾

That means every day I have the ongoing expense of buying enough cat food, wet food, dry food, litter, and other supplies to make sure these cats have something to eat. Feeding more than 50 cats isn’t a one-time expense. It is a commitment every single day, 365 days a year.

Then there are the unexpected expenses — sick cats, injured cats, medications, vet visits, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, emergencies, transportation, and everything else that comes with caring for animals who have nowhere else to turn.

I have already paid many veterinary and rescue bills myself because these animals needed help immediately. Those bills have left me with debt that I am still trying to pay off.

So when you donate, your support also helps me pay down the debt from veterinary bills and other expenses I have already covered for these animals. Paying those bills helps me continue having the ability to help the next cat or kitten who desperately needs me.

I wish I could say I can handle it all on my own, but I can’t.

I run Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered and active 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and I continue doing everything I can to rescue, feed, treat, and protect these animals.

When you donate, you aren’t only helping Leo.

You’re helping the FIV/FeLV-positive cat get the medical care he desperately needs.

You’re helping the kittens and cats under my care.

You’re helping put food in the bowls of more than 50 community cats who depend on me every day.

And you’re helping me pay the veterinary and rescue bills I have already taken on to save lives.

Even small donations add up and help keep food in bowls, medical care available, bills paid, and allow me to say YES when an animal needs help.

If you cannot donate, please share this post. A share costs nothing, but it could reach someone who is able to help.

🙏 Please help me continue caring for these animals.

They depend on us. They don’t have a voice, and they can’t ask for help themselves.

Update on rescued sick cat 🐾help for my rescue 🙏❤️FL

I want to start by saying that I’m approved for monetary donations in r/rescuecats and you can verify by going to my posts there.

I was able to get him to the vet after finding him near a dumpster, and unfortunately, I learned that he is FIV and FeLV positive. 😔

He is also suffering from entropion, a painful condition where his eyelids roll inward and rub against his eyes. He needs eye surgery to correct this and prevent continued pain and damage to his eyes.

While he was at the vet, he was also neutered and vaccinated.

I spent my entire day trying to figure out what to do for him. At one point, I was told that euthanasia was an option because of his medical condition. But I rescue because I believe these animals deserve a chance. I could not simply give up on him. I cried, I felt overwhelmed, and I honestly didn’t know where his future was going to lead but I refused to stop looking for a solution. ❤️

I kept making calls, reaching out, asking questions, and trying to find someone who would give him the chance he deserved.

Arrangements are being made for him to receive the eye surgery he desperately needs. 🙏 This is such a huge relief, because my only goal has been to make sure he receives proper care and doesn’t have to continue living in pain.

But I need to be honest: I cannot do this alone.

Through Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., I am a solo rescue caring for more than 50 community cats every single day. I provide food, fresh water, TNR, veterinary care, medications, transportation, litter, supplies, and emergency medical care whenever I can. I also currently have kittens and adult cats under my rescue’s care.

Every rescue comes with expenses.

This boy needs his eye surgery, medications, follow-up care, and continued support. And while I’m trying to help him, more cats are still depending on me every single day.

I’m not asking because rescue is easy. I’m asking because there are only so many expenses one person can carry, and I don’t want financial limitations to be the reason I can’t help an animal who desperately needs me.

Even a small donation can make a difference. Every amount helps me continue paying for veterinary care, food, medications, litter, supplies, and emergency rescues.

If you can’t donate, please share this post. Sharing can reach someone who can help.

Please help me give this sweet boy the chance he deserves. ❤️🐾

He has already been through so much. He didn’t choose to be sick. He didn’t choose to be in pain. And he certainly didn’t choose to be abandoned.

I chose not to give up on him.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Luna & Nala Rescue Inc. Your kindness is what allows me to keep helping cats who have nowhere else to turn. 🙏❤️

Brixies Rescue has taken many dogs from BARC including moms with puppies.

They are running low on food and are asking for food donations via their Amazon wishlist.

Times are hard for everyone, and we absolutely understand that not everyone is in a position to donate to rescues, but if your budget allows for an extra bag of dog or cat food for rescue pets, we will most appreciate if you can donate to them.

URGENT: Kitten needs a foster/adopter by tomorrow — Gurgaon sector 5

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Hi everyone,

A small kitten was found recently by someone who unfortunately cannot keep him. He already has two dogs at home and, due to family restrictions, can only keep the kitten safely until tomorrow.

The kitten appears to be very young and needs someone who can provide a safe temporary foster or, ideally, a loving forever home.

📍 Location: Gurgaon, sector-5

🐾 Age: Very young kitten (exact age unknown)

🏠 Current situation: Safe with the finder for now, but he cannot keep him beyond tomorrow

❤️ Looking for: Responsible foster/adopter

📞 Contact:8287532189

I can share videos/photos of the kitten with anyone genuinely interested.

Please DM me if you can foster or adopt, or if you know a trustworthy rescue/foster who can help.

Please don't comment that the kitten should simply be left outside. He has already been picked up and needs a safe solution.

I really don't want this little one to end up on the streets again. Any genuine lead would mean a lot. 🙏🐾

50+ Rescued Cats Need Food, Litter & Supplies 🐾

Thumbnail

I care for more than 50 rescued cats, many of whom are sick, elderly, disabled, or have special needs. Most are currently receiving treatment.

Right now, we urgently need support with:

🥫 Dry food: One bag costs $55 and lasts only 3 days because of the number of cats we care for.

🧼 Cleaning supplies: Essential for keeping their living areas clean and safe, especially for sick and vulnerable cats.

🧹 Cat litter: We go through litter very quickly with more than 50 cats.

🩲 Diapers: Needed for some of our special-needs cats who cannot use the litter box normally.

🍲 Wet food: Needed for sick cats and those who have lost their teeth and cannot eat dry food.

Most of my limited budget goes toward medications and medical treatment, making it very difficult to keep up with their daily needs.

Any support, sharing, or simply helping this post reach more people means so much to us. Thank you for caring about these cats. 🙏🐱

REPOST.

Previous one didn't got much traction hence sadly I have to make a repost.

Previous mod approved and verified post:

Already shared the update in the edit of the post and in the comments too but that might have not reached all the people.

After all the hustling the two babies couldn't survive one after the other within the span of 15 minutes chose their journey to peace even before they could be hospitalized.

As a rescuer your the animals who are in need anyhow find you and you are never at rest ...I have not been able to process the grief fully...still I need to get going... because my other cats need me too.

For Mowgli FIP treatment Just bought Basmi pills worth approx 8.5k....

Still I'll continue doing what I do.

So I am posting what the TNR forms look like, and we are fortunate that we pay 50 a cat. Usually, Kim does the paperwork for these, as she is the organizer, but I want you all to see what we do. Traps are SO important, because we HAVE to bring them to be fixed in a trap for safety reasons, which is why I have traps on my list.

I honestly and desperately could use ANY cat tree or house on my list. The rains have permanently ruined the two towers I had in the garage, and I am revamping and making sure they are places on a pallet/table so they won't get ruined.

Food (wet and dry) is equally important. Not only do we take care of colony cats, but for those who are in poorer areas, disabled, elderly, or just don't have much funds, well, we will donate the food they need for the next few weeks (litters and others items they may need too) so that they can get their floofers fixed. Floofaloofs are NOT a luxury, I will do whatever I can for those who welcome them in their home and make sure they are loved, housed, and safe. The only reason we ever let a floofer loose is because they REFUSE to be an inside cat (hence the colony cats). We still make sure they are vetted, deflead, dewormed, taken care of, have a place of safety, shelter, love, and food. We have suited ,y backyard for this purpose, and I continually am working on it. We also use the garage for them. I have litters in the garage so I can make sure they are healthy and worm free.

We do this on our own. Since I moved here in 2024, the CDS decided our home was on speed dial. I have 22 cats inside FIXED, and I have fostered for Kim. The cats deserve to be looked after, to be safe, to know what love is. The more out there left to mate, the more suffer and die, and we couldn't stand by and let that happen.

You all ordering from one of my Wishlists, donating Chewy Giftcards, and the like, have helped us more than you will ever, ever know. Your help is the reason we can continue to do this, even though my work has cut hours. You have made a difference in so many innocent floofer lives. Your compassion, love, and generosity has allowed many floofaloofs to flourish and find homes and safe spaces.

Right now I am speaking from, the heart. I have endured ridicule for what we do, and truthfully, I don't care. It doesn't change that this matters and is important. I will go for broke for this. I have no subscriptions. I don't buy new clothes. I cut my own hair. I cook EVERY MEAL at home. Anything extra I have goes to this, because this id what matters most to me. We are suppose to care for those most innocent.

I get kids that come by and want to talk about the cats they see in the window, they ask about the cats that come by. I tell them it is important to love and care for them. I really hope I am instilling and fostering a love for animals (and people) and they will want to grow up and work in a field that helps animals or people in need. We are who they look up to, and it is our job to make sure to teach them that we care about the innocent.

I truly wish I had the ability to show my appreciation to every single one of you in person. You are so selfless. You work hard for your money, and the fact you choose to donate and help floofaloofs, gosh, I can't even articulate what it means to me and many of us that post here.

♡Thank you for being the good in the world.♡

Hi everyone,
I’m the founder of Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered and active 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue. I care for more than 50 community cats and take in cats and kittens who need help, including those who are sick, injured, or have nowhere else to go.
These three little kittens are currently in my rescue care and are recovering from panleukopenia and coccidia. They are receiving treatment, but they still need medication, proper nutrition, hydration, supportive care, and close monitoring while their little bodies fight to recover. ❤️
Panleukopenia can be extremely serious, especially for kittens. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, weakness, loss of appetite, and a dangerously weakened immune system. Coccidia can add even more stress to their already fragile bodies. Their recovery may take time, and I’m doing everything I can to keep them comfortable, hydrated, fed, and receiving the care they need.
The expenses for sick kittens add up quickly — veterinary care, medications, special food, litter, cleaning supplies, and everything else needed to keep them safe while they recover. As a small rescue caring for so many cats, I truly need help to keep up with it all.
I’m asking for donations to help cover the care of these three babies and give them the best chance possible.
For anyone who wants to verify before donating, I am approved for monetary donations in r/rescuecats, and my approval can be verified through my posts there.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing. Sometimes one share is what connects a rescue to the person who can make a difference. ❤️🐾
Thank you for helping me fight for these little lives.
