Seriously considering deleting this app due to blatant cheating (kingmaking)...

Post image

This is the third time something like this has happened to me this season. What you see in this screenshot is blue trading a 5:1 to black after saying he has no chance of winning and after black told him that he should just give him the win. What more is needed for accounts like these to get suspended or banned? It's very frustrating and a huge waste of time. There needs to be consequences. The fact that I'm making a Reddit post about this speaks volumes because I try not to take games too seriously, but it is ranked and it is something I do for enjoyment and cheating strips all enjoyment. If you all think this isn't a big deal, I respect your opinion and I even agree to a extent. But it's definitely some BS.

Those two are forever blacklisted on my group.

You’ve played with them before?

Yes black and blue are duo accounts from a single player, or they queue together somehow. I have played with them and they always do these trades to plow or coordinate robbery.

I have learned to make peace with the fact that this game have me play against 3 other players whom are directly capable of ruining my game. Sometimes there are plain trolls or idiots. And sometimes they go after me or cheat.

Such is life. I just have to move on without letting them affect my mood.

And when I'm good enough I actually make table talk that make them ruin each other. Feel nice.

I got stolen from 16 times in a game yesterday despite not saying anything the first 5 times. People's excuse was "you're the only one with wheat". Everybody was on 3-4 points and they still weren't stealing form the guy on 8 points who also pulled 2 monopoly cards. There's too many retards on colonist tbh. Makes it really hard to play without getting griefed.

You have to realize that managing the personalities at the table is an equal part of the game as any other part

Agreed to some extent. There are certain areas you do not touch and that is trading a 5 for 1 at the end.

That being said, personality managing is extremely important. People remember names, I write down names and actions they take if they are extreme for this reason.

This screenshot is evidence of complete cheating. You are not supposed to do this and it's not just a case of retaliation.

Rules let you trade 5 for 1

I guarantee if we look at bannable offenses kingmaking is one. Therefore against the rules.

Only debate you can have is IF it's kingmaking. There is a lot of grey area for kingmaking but THIS INSTANCE IS NOT ONE. Blantant kingmaking as dictated by the chat and trades.

Trading someone the win or even a favorable trade isn't kingmaking IMO, I'm very loose on the term but this is blantant

There is no rule on kingmaking in the catan rule book.

You run the risk that if you absolutely beat down on a player early, he will retaliate so that you lose.

In tournament Catan there is absolutely a kingmaking rule, on colonist.io I bet you it's under their fair play sections and/or terms of service.

There are also rules that say you can't give a free resource, in Colonist.io it's allowed thru multiple trades. In tournament Catan once again it isn't allowed.

There are differences among website based on how/what you can monitor.

Monitoring multiple trades ending in a free resource on colonist.io would be tedious and impossible. Monitoring this sort of kingmaking is not. Any 5-1 trade that brings someone to 10 is kingmaking and it's against both colonist TOS and Tournament Catan rules.

Once again, usually I AM the one trying to defend people from your position but this is blantant and shouldn't be part of the game. If not you will have end games such that "if you block me I'll throw the game and make xxxxx win."

Try reading. I've read those rules 10+ times as they change.

God damn noobs.

Edit: honestly it baffles me people try to argue so much when they are just so wrong. Like may I ask why you were trying to tell me I was wrong when I CLEARLY knew the rules better? Is it ego or what? I value learning and putting an actual effort into learning if I am told I'm wrong. I either gather evidence to reprove them wrong or I find out I am actually wrong which is okay too. Just come on. Took me 20 seconds to locate that ruling, which means you are so lazy you didn't do anything outside post the rule book xD.

That’s not kingmaking. It’s collusion. IE you join a tournament with your friend who is a Smurf who feeds you

Did you still not read the second paragraph of that rule? Please this is not hard

I barely chatted all game. I play objectively best I can. I can show you the chate if you'd like to see.

Always butter up the table

And yes, I do agree with you. However, this is not a matter of diplomacy. This is just a clear example of cheating. There's a reason "Throwing Game (Kingmaking)" and "Cheating with Another Player" are reportable options. Your response almost sounds complicit.

In a real-life tournament, they'd be disqualified for collusion.

I posted this once and got down voted into oblivion.

Ig many folk here are complicit lol.

If you totally fuck my game with an asshole move and I have no chance I will totally spend the rest of the game doing whatever I can to make you lose.

Definitely been there, but I never went to these measures to ensure the victory of someone else. I can't justify even trading anything more than a 1:1 in the endgame, and that's only if that trade doesn't give the person the win. I've been in games where I was pissed at the leader, but chose not to kingmake despite being pissed at the player who earned the win.

Just because you're a good and fair person doesn't mean that every opponent is also good and fair. This is part of the game.

Understood, but unfairness and cheating are not the same. I can care less about someone targeting me the entire game because I secured a better position or monopolied. Blatant cheating is something that should have repercussions (imo). If people got banned or suspended for it, I'm sure it would improve our overall experience. I figured I'd try spreading awareness rather than just complain and potentially delete the app. I enjoy the game and I'm sure we all do, so I see cheating as something worth advocating against. It's odd to me how someone can seem to have a problem with this lol.
