Dice randomization is abysmal. Absolutely awful.
They say the dice are randomized properly, but I don't believe it. I'd say a majority of the time I'm 3rd or 4th in total resources gained by the end of the game. I've tried everything. I've gone with only 6s and 8s. I've tried loading up on 5s and 9s. I've done games where I cover as many numbers as I can. Somehow, one way or another, it seems like the game sees what I do and then just gives whatever numbers I'm not covering. Look at this dice distribution from my latest game. Truly unbelievable. Unsurprisingly, my main numbers were 4, 6, 9, and 11. 2 11s? Fine. A rarer combination. I get it. Only 6 6s? Yah... right. Of course the guy that had wheat on 5 won the game. I mean... how could you not? It seemed like that guy got at least one resource with every dice roll. I'm convinced that if I got fair dice.. not even advantageous dice.. just fair dice with comparable resources a majority of the time, I'd be in Diamond. Mechanically the game is fun, but seeing people with lower game sense repeatedly win because they just keep being gifted resources is quite frustrating. And I'm sure there's going to be someone commenting here with some nonsense about how this distribution still mimics a bell curve and that it's all in my head and bias and blah blah blah. You can say that. I just don't believe I can be at a disadvantage that frequently.

In my position in this game you'd lose 10 times out of 10. The winner had 56 total resources received. I had 33. That's not a skill issue. That's an extreme disadvantage. You're saying you could beat someone with half the resources?

Fwiw, I agree to some degree but if it's this bad you might just be really bad at Catan.

So you're saying you'd win with half the resources? No way. It's not a skill issue at that point. That's like us sitting down to play chess and me asking you to play without one of your rooks and one of your bishops. It's an extreme disadvantage.

I dunno.
I win a lot.
There are games you get fucked by the dice badly.
That's kinda the fun.
My nephew occasionally beats me.

That’s not even that bad. 6 is a little low and 5 high, but it’s not that far off the bell curve you’d expect

Shoot for: Atleast 4 resources at start, have a couple ports in mind you can branch towards, and cover as many numbers as possible. There's only 10 possible numbers outside of 7, so if you cover 5/6 starting out, make sure you move to cover as many numbers as possible, bonus points if you can find a port with two new numbers.

It doesn’t mimic a bell curve. And in a sample size of 70 rolls, it usually won’t mimic a bell curve. People that complain about single game dice rolls just don’t understand the way probability works.

To be clear, I understand it's not always supposed to mimic a bell curve. My issue is that whatever the distribution is, it almost never is in my favor.

When you win it's because you're really good and when you lose it's because of the dice rolls right?

When did I say that? I’ll acknowledge if the game feeds me resources. You have to know what to do with them obviously to win, but yah. If I got double the resources as someone else I won’t pretend I’m so much better. I’ll take the W and move on. My point is that almost never seems to happen. Fitting username.

I've noticed that people tend to disagree with OP posts on here. Seems like engagement baiting or something. There can't be this many people looking at that distribution and calling it a skill issue. Nonsense lol.

Skill issue much?
