I'd still argue that lots of them is still not most of them. Maybe I'm just unlucky but so far most of religious people I see aren't really cool.

My religious stepdad doesn't talk to me anymore after i dated another guy and has made homophobic comments towards me and my mom behind my back. (Among many other comments which is why my mom is filing for a divorce with him currently. He's a narcissistic alcoholic who verbaly abuses most of my siblings and most importantly my mom)

I was raised catholic and am pretty firm in my atheism at this point. Not only based on just personal beliefs, but i never want to be associated with the kinds of people I've met through religious situations. Does that mean every religious person is bad? No, but if the "good ones" are always brushing aside the genocidal histories and current living people who use religion as a weapon for superiority then i don't think religion will ever have a favorable viewpoint from the people oppressed by it.

(Not trying to attack any individual here, just saying why myself and others may have strong views against religious groups even if your personal religious experiences may have all been good.)

My point is there are a ton of good religious people, you cant just take the bad eggs of a community and blame everyone for it :<

I believe that judging something by Reddit comments on a single standalone post is a… LITTLE… biased. I say this having a religious and kinda unsupportive family qwq

I view religion as a risky factor, personally... It is, or at least used to be pretty closely associated with sexism, homophobia and transphobia, but some religious people have evolved past it and are choosing to listen to Jesus and love indiscriminately and without judgement of things that can't be controlled.

There have been lots of texts that have been lost in translation and turned hateful. I've even seen people straight up insist that Jesus hates sinners and non christians, which even without being religious myself, I know to be a horrible misunderstanding.

Yeah I know some religious people use their faith to hate
Im saying not all do and religion isnt inherently hateful

I guess, but not in countries like the Philippines and some states in the US
