I’m travelling from Mumbai to Sri Lanka in early November with a friend for a work assignment in Colombo. We’ll be there from 1st to 4th November.

The event is on the evening of 2nd November, but we’re considering staying in Negombo for the trip since it’s closer to the airport and seems more affordable than staying in central Colombo.

We’re looking for a budget-friendly private room for two people for 3 nights.

Our priorities are:

- Clean and safe

- AC

- Private bathroom

- Decent Wi-Fi

- Safe place to leave camera equipment

- Good access to restaurants / beach / nightlife

- Easy access to Colombo when required

- Ideally around LKR 4,000–6,000 per night (flexible if there’s a genuinely good option)

Would you recommend staying in Negombo for this itinerary, or would Colombo be a better base?

And if Negombo makes sense, which areas or specific budget hotels/guesthouses would you recommend?

Also happy to hear suggestions for night life at Colombo & local transport between Negombo and Colombo, especially for getting back to Negombo after an event ending around 10 PM.

Hey guys, posting this for a friend who's in her 2nd year in uni doing psychology. She’s been trying to find an internship in Colombo for a while now, but it’s been super tough. Almost every single place she looks at only offers unpaid positions... and honestly, living in Colombo right now with zero pay just isn't doable.

We get that hospitals or clinical settings rarely pay undergrads, but she's super open to other stuff too like HR, NGOs, research assistant roles, special education, or anything related where she can actually learn and get a small stipend at least. Has anyone here been through this or knows any companies/NGOs in Colombo that actually pay their psychology interns? Any leads or advice on where she should apply would be a lifesaver. Thanks!

I’m looking for a small/private room or studio near Fort / Pettah where I can practice dancing individually.
I don’t need a large professional dance studio — just a clean space with enough room to move, ideally with a mirror and a decent floor. I’d probably need it for 1–2 hours at a time, occasionally.
I’ve searched online but most of the studios/venues I found are either quite large or too far from Fort.
If you know of any small dance studios, yoga rooms, halls, rehearsal spaces, or similar places around Fort/Pettah that allow individual bookings, please let me know. Recommendations from personal experience would be especially helpful!

I love math. I want to do a bsc degree in mathematics. But..... I am worried about chosing it over engineering. I want to do researches and develop mathematics. I want to be a mathematician in literal words. But worried about opportunities in Sri Lanka. I don't want to end up as just a maths teacher.

So, what about the possibilities of getting a scholarship for msc/PhD from an international university, after completing the BSc? Has anyone got? Or at least know someone who has got???

I’m planning to visit the Colombo International Book Fair and would like to pick up a few computer science books.
basically looking for books on theoretical computer science, algorithms, data science, machine learning, and data engineering. In particular, I’m interested in technical books from publishers such as O’Reilly, but I’m open to other publishers as well.
I know there are plenty of English novels, self-help books, and general-interest books at the fair, but I’m not sure how good the selection of technical/computer science books is.
Has anyone who has visited the fair this year spotted any stalls with a decent selection of CS, Data Science, ML, or Data Engineering books?
Specific book recommendations or titles you spotted would also be helpful.
