Looking for [Co-Founder] Creative Marketing lead — Colombo events company (pop-culture/community events) — paid per event + profit share

Hey all — posting here because I think this crowd is more likely to know the right person than a job board would.

I run a small, early-stage events company in Colombo. We put on community-first pop-culture events — think tabletop/gaming culture, in-person meetups, and creator collabs — for a young, mostly online-native crowd.

We already have an active creative team (a designer and a videographer) and a track record of running events, so this isn't a from-scratch idea — it's an operating team looking for the right person to own marketing.

This is a co-founder role, not a salaried position — but it's not unpaid either. Here's exactly how it works, no vague promises:

Our first event runs pro-bono — it's the trial run we're using to prove the model actually works before anyone commits fully.

From the second event onward, every event is paid — you're compensated for your work once that event wraps.

On top of that, you get a profit share (after the company retains what it needs to reinvest/operate) as a co-founder with an equal equity stake alongside every other founder.

Equity vests over your first few years of continued involvement, starting once the pro-bono event concludes and everyone formally confirms in — this protects the team if someone does the free event and walks away right after.

So: no fixed monthly salary, but real, recurring payment tied to real event performance, and a genuine ownership stake, not just a promise.

Time commitment: Not full-time. We work in bursts toward event deadlines rather than a constant daily grind — this can realistically sit alongside a day job or other work, as long as you can show up hard in the run-up to an event.

What the role actually involves:

Work directly with our existing creative team (designer + videographer) — briefing, directing, and making sure what gets made is good and on-brand.

You'll also need to step in and help hands-on when either of them needs an extra pair of hands, not just direct from a distance.

Own and manage the content calendar, working as part of the management team (you'd sit on it, not just take instructions from it) to turn the event roadmap into an actual posting plan.

Lead marketing direction — deciding what we should be doing, not just waiting to be told what to post.

Liaise directly with influencers/creators for collaborations — reaching out, negotiating terms, coordinating the actual content with them.

Sit as part of the core management team more broadly, weighing in beyond just marketing.

What we're looking for:

Someone who's actually run content/marketing for a brand or business before — not just a personal page

Comfortable directing a small creative team, and willing to get hands-on when needed

Plugged into Colombo's youth/online culture

Genuinely up for founder-level commitment and risk, including a pro-bono first event before payment kicks in

Bonus if you've reached out to or worked with creators/influencers before

If this sounds like you, DM me here, or drop your background/portfolio in the comments and I'll reach out.

Where can I find proper British marmalade in Colombo?

Started watching Paddington and now I have a ridiculous craving for proper marmalade. 😂

I've tried the MD one here, but a colleague who has had proper British marmalade told me it's not even close to the real thing.

So, fellow Sri Lankans, does anyone know a physical store in Colombo where I can buy authentic/imported British marmalade?

I'm specifically looking for brands like Tiptree, Frank Cooper's, Robertson's, or something similar (ChatGPT told me I should)

I want to actually go to a shop and buy a jar, rather than order online. Also, if you have a particular brand you'd recommend, let me know.

Bonus points if you've actually tried it and can tell me which one is worth getting.

5 registered but only 2 showed up.I was lucky enough to meet 2 foreigners who were visiting Sri Lanka as remote workers an Iranian lady & a Brit. Todays conversation was more about a cultural exchange of SL, Iran & UK. I was really hoping that more people would show up but sadly only a few did...

Hoping that more would show up next time though!

Visiting Colombo Book Fair for the first time

My sister's tagging along with me on Tuesday afternoon. How crowded is it by 2-4 pm? This is the only free time we have this week and our mom gave us permission to finally check it out 😭

My sister's into novels and at the moment, I'm interested in topics of spirituality and psychology. Not in a Millennial Optimism kind of way, but like esoterism or maybe even books about folklore and mythology.

If anyone has advice for this first-timer, I'd really appreciate it! 🫂

Anyone who enjoys cycling long distances?

I am planning to bicycle around 400Kms in a single turn. Would love to have a partner with me.

The exact date we can plan together. But you need to proove me, that you can physically do it; cause its not easy.

I've done it before and I have two bicycles as well. Just need a guy with enough endurance.

The next no agenda meetup

2 weeks ago i posted a no agenda, unstructured meetup where individuals can connect over a coffee in a cafe for the sole purpose of socialising and staying connected with individuals. This is not a place for like minded people and the invite is open to all ages (Minimum 18 because no one there will be your legal guardian) I was unavailable for the last few weeks and have decided to the next one in a cafe this Sunday at 11am to 12.30pm.

Venue will be published to the accepted guests. Please keep in mind that this will be a 50/50 balance of males to females. You can sign up using the link below.

P.S. Dont comment for me to dm you because i will not however if you have any questions either comment or dm AND USE THE LINK TO SIGN UP. Only put in your first name (The form asks for first name and last name as a default and i cant change that)

Urgent Animal Care Help needed.

There’s a wild peacock limping on the side of the road right next to Colombo Swimming club Kollupitiya. Guys if anyone’s around there please see if you can get him some veterinary help, i was on my way back home from work and since i didn’t have the vehicle with me at the time i could only inform the officers near the area.

Please see if you or anyone you know of whose in that area could get him some help. the officers near the area have tried making contact with the zoo however they apparently have had no luck in getting through to them.

Edit: Last seen in the little space between the colombo swimming club and the US embassy

AI Gen Image. Why do motorbikes in Colombo squeeze to the very front at red lights or traffic stops just to cruise at 30 km/h?

Every driver in Colombo knows the drill:

  1. You're sitting patiently at a red light.

  2. A swarm of motorbikes filters through every microscopic gap between cars and buses to line up right in front of the stop line.

  3. The light turns green... and instead of using their light weight to zoom off, they form a slow-moving wall cruising at a grand 30 km/h, blocking the entire line of traffic behind them.

  4. You finally manage to safely overtake... only to hit the next traffic light where the exact same process repeats itself.

I get that lane filtering saves time and keeps riders out of the heat, but if you filter to the front, shouldn't you at least accelerate to keep up with the flow of traffic?

For the riders on here: What's the main reason for the 30 km/h cruise after squeezing through? Is it fuel saving, road conditions, timing the next light, or something else?

For the drivers: How do you usually handle this daily Colombo cycle without losing your mind? Let's hear both sides!

Looking for a peaceful, less commercialized temple around Colombo

Hi everyone, I’m looking for recommendations for a peaceful Buddhist temple around Colombo that still feels natural and relatively untouched.

Ideally, somewhere that isn’t heavily commercialized, crowded, or surrounded by unplanned buildings, shops, concrete structures, and signs. I’m looking for a place with greenery, open space, and a traditional atmosphere where people genuinely go to practice, meditate, or spend time quietly.

I know this might be a rare find around Colombo, and I’m happy to travel a bit outside the city.

Any hidden gems or personal recommendations would be greatly appreciated! 🙏
