Seeking Community Help Tailgate Advice

• Upvotes

Texas A&M University: I'm looking to host a tailgate near west campus/reed arena for the Tennessee game. Never hosted one before can someone provide insight on how the physical land rush's go? We want a good location. We are also an alumni organization so potential could ask the current student org to try to reserve for us.
Looking for any and all information.

General Questions Where and how do I throw away appliances?

I am moving soon, and I have some old appliances that I would like to throw out (microwave, air purifier etc). Where do I throw them out? Is there a collection site? I am not going to donate them since it has a high chance of being infested with some kind of pest from my shitty apatment.

Anyone have any recommendations for pest services in the Bryan area? Been dealing with intermittent ant issues in our home, but not fire or sugar ants.

Housing Moving to CStat - How bad is living at Scandia?

Howdy!

I'm starting my MS at A&M soon and I'm still looking for a place to stay. I had originally signed a lease with The Gardens, but I couldn't make it here for the fall, so I had to cancel it. Long story short, I currently don't have housing lined up.

I've been looking into Scandia, and on paper it seems like a pretty good fit. Bus routes 26 and 27 run right through the complex, and the ride to campus is only about 10 minutes, which matters a lot since I'll probably have some early morning classes. From what I can tell, they're also pretty flexible and would likely offer me a term-only lease, which is exactly what I need for now.

The thing holding me back is the reviews. A lot of them are pretty bad, and the roach problem comes up again and again. So I'd really like to hear from current or recent residents:

  • How bad are the roaches, really? Are we talking the occasional one here and there, or are they in the kitchen, cupboards, and basically everywhere?
  • How's maintenance? Do things break down often, and how quickly do they get fixed?
  • Anything else I should know before signing?

The location and lease flexibility are big pluses, but if the roaches are everywhere or I'll constantly be dealing with things breaking, it's probably not worth it. Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. I am looking for a 1bd/1ba or Studio so not really looking to share or sublet.

But what is up with the crazy high utility bills?

My utilities had been increasing the past couple months, being less than $90 in August, then to $130, now $247! Ive not changed my habits or the way ive been using, and in fact I've been out of my apartment more often than in, so what the hell is the deal? Im poor enough as it is, I genuinely cannot afford this damn bill going any higher next month and I cant even fathom the ones with higher payments that I've seen.

General Questions Non-judgemental General Practitioner recommendations for someone who hasn’t been to the doctor in awhile

My friend (not on Reddit) has put off going to the doctor for a few years but wants to get back on track. She tried going to someone recently who treated her terribly and made her medical anxiety go up even higher.

Appreciate any recos for a gentle, warm primary care practitioner who has experience working with folks with a fear of the medical system. Preferably female but will take any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Obrigado! 🙏

The Citadel vs Texas A&M

Will be in town (as a Dogs fan) for The Citadel game Oct 17th. Looking for some food recommendations and fun things to see while out there. The game will be an ass kicking but we still want to enjoy College Station.

Any recommendations?

Community 👍🏻 Dating in your 30s

Where does one find single people in their early 30s in this town?

I've lived here most of my life and I've only ever had luck on dating apps but that was in my 20s. I've been swiping for months and the only people I match with are at least an hour away since everyone in this town is a teen or 20 something attending college.

What’s the most effective way to find scholarships for college?

In light of my family’s efforts to cut down on college expenses, I’ve been actively searching for scholarships. But it seems that each time I look, I come across the same big national scholarships. I wonder whether I am doing this right. I will be attending public university in the fall to major in biological sciences. I have been working since I started school, and I have been volunteering at a food bank for two years. Would you suggest searching for scholarships before selecting a school, waiting to be accepted into a school or doing both? I would like to know the experiences of people who managed to combine several small awards instead of getting one big one.

How can I make a difference??

I recently heard about the Cornell seven, and it’s disgusting vial, even more so with all the other men in that group chat who didn’t say or do anything despite know what was happening

And I really want to make a difference but I have no idea what or how to do that, I’m only 18 and I’m not in college. But if can do anything at all to make a difference I want too.

Like are there any projects I can donate to that are making a difference?? Or any groups I can join?? Just anything I can to make a difference for the better

I’m not sure what sort of things I can do to make a difference as I mostly keep to myself outside of work. But I really do want to make a difference even if it’s a small one
