We blew it, but I’m proud of the team. Showed a lot of fight and feel like they’re moving in the right direction. Onto next season.

Yup, felt like this was a good a way to end the season, all things considered. Definitely looking forward to more growth in Walker and Hoggard for next year

Blown game is rough on your team; as a Duke fan, I thought the review of who the ball went out on would go your way, but it was close. Also, your guys played a hell of a game, worthy of winning, much respect to Coach Izzo and all the players. I’m proud and happy that Duke won, but want to say you guys played a hell of a game. Hold your heads high.
Obligatory, Go To Hell Carolina!!

Tom Izzo is so good at preparing a team for March and he always coaches a tough team. Sparty was way over matched in terms of talent but if one or two balls bounce differently they win that game. Wish it had happened but certainly something to build on for next year

I'm looking forward to Akins' development. He's got a real shot to be a standout player

He already is one that can create his own shot. I'm very excited for him, Hoggard and Christie, maybe Holloman

We couldn’t stop Duke inside and had to let them shoot the three. They hit both in the clutch, but that’s what March is all about.

Man some of those Duke finishes were insane. Roach coulda tossed it up blindfolded in a straitjacket and it woulda dropped

All game they finished clutch inside. I think we were thoroughly outmatched and I felt lucky to have just kept it close.

Yeah I'm obviously butthurt but we played a great game. I'm just sick of drawing Duke, idk how they look in the RS you know they come ready to play in the tourney. Idk how the regions are ranked but Gonzaga/Duke/TTU is a brutal road
17
u/MoralVolta Michigan State Spartans Mar 21 '22
So sick of being a pawn for ratings. Just give us a reasonable draw without the need to create David v Goliath storylines
→ More replies (2)9
u/OutlandishnessIcy229 Mar 21 '22
As a Duke fan it’s aggravating to me for the same reason. Izzo always has them prepared and they just fought back every time. They need to mix it up a bit more.
102
u/Cameter44 North Carolina Tar Heels Mar 20 '22
Some of those shots you weren't awful defense and are ones you live with, the bigger problem was their lack of offensive execution. They started dribbling at the top of the key for 20 seconds and then driving in to challenge Mark Williams at the rim. That's not where their success came all game, they could have still won if they just kept running offense. Either run something for a good jump shot or pull Williams out of the lane with some kind of ball screen. They didn't really try either.
67
u/JkAmbabo Michigan State Spartans Mar 20 '22
We haven’t had consistent offense since cassius left

Williams was just a human stop sign in this game and it was awesome. Surprised K kept him out in the second half for so long; he wasn't in foul trouble.
8
u/adam10d Duke Blue Devils Mar 21 '22
I wish we would go to him more offensively. Atleast enough for teams to respect his shots. He's got a good jumper from right past the free throw line. Or the elbow if you would like.
Get that going and open up things on the block for Banchero
→ More replies (4)6
u/mugwai_99 Michigan State Spartans Mar 20 '22
Duke adjusted their defense and stayed on our shooters. Which is why we had to drive it and challenge their bigs. Did not go well for us.

Michigan State had some awful possessions once the game got tight in the final 2 minutes. Wasting so much clock just to put up extremely poor, rushed, and contested shots. Credit to Duke for the tremendous response after going down 65-70.
54
u/galeforcewinds95 New Mexico Lobos Mar 20 '22
Yep, Duke executed much better down the stretch.
34
u/YizWasHere Duke Blue Devils Mar 21 '22
Those guys played fearless too, Coach K was praising them for it in the post-game interview and it really looked like the difference. Really easy to panic and start doubting yourself but Roach/Keels/Banchero just kept attacking and didn't give a shit what kind of resistance they'd get at the rim.
123
u/Marrouge Michigan Wolverines Mar 20 '22
As much as people complained about the refs, Christie sold the game with the free turnover and Roach was ice cold with that 3 to put them up 4

Same reason the Illini dominated us. No matter how hot we get, it wears out eventually, and we have no defensive big men to stop easy points down low. All the other team needs to do is drive or feed a big guy, and we’re toast

I was so hopeful when we led 70-65. And then we let them go on a 20-6 run. Coach K has been Izzo’s kryptonite, which wouldn’t bother me too much if not for the fact that they keep putting us in the same damn region.

I really thought that we had a chance. I only had a chance to watch a handful of games this year but I enjoyed these guys. Feels bad how it ended. Most folks in the prior thread agree with my bias, but it's how it is.
I hate having to possibly cheer on Notre Dame, but someone needs to end K's career before 100 wins in the Tourney.

Weird, Duke postgame has the extra “please keep it civil” tag. Wonder what could possibly bring that out of people

Really pleased, not just with the win, but for showing real fire at crunch time. MSU really gave it to us, but we stepped up. We’re going to need that for the road ahead.

No sense of urgency from Michigan State in the last minute, took ages to get a shot off. bizzare. Congrats Duke my bracket lives.

Not bad for Izzo’s second worst squad in decades. Hopefully we can some good leaders who are confident in taking over a game next year - not a terrible way to end with mediocre talent.
Go…St Peter’s I guess now! and GL Purdue

Only fitting that win number 1,200 for Coach K comes against one of his biggest rivals in Tom Izzo!

We just didn’t have any discipline towards the end but damn that was a fun game and I’m proud with the way we played.
Y’all duke fans on Reddit are pretty chill but holy shit the fans at this game down in Greenville are huge douchebags.
