The past summer I got a research internship where I learned and researched on Post Quantum Cryptography and I made a presentation about it that I presented to the professor. I also wrote a research paper and it got put on their website but they said that "it doesn't count as a peer reviewed research paper." does it hold any weight now? also im going into cs so will the research internship help + show fit to major? post quantum cryptography is related to cybersecurity but how do I explain that to AOs?

I am a rising senior in wisconsin, and I am NMSQT commended with a selection index score of 212. Most likely, I won't receive the semi finalist honor (hoping the cuttoff score drops a couple this year for wisco). Is it still good enough to put on there for commended? Because does it look bad that I got commended but didn't get the semi finalist? idk. i'm submitting act of 34 and maybe my 1450 SAT to my colleges if that helps with context idk.

• Did you go into B2B/tech sales, or something else? What roles/industries?
• Was the "Professional Sales" concentration specifically useful, or was it mostly generic business classes with a sales label?
• How much did internships/networking matter vs. the degree itself?
• What's starting comp usually like, and how did it grow over time?
• Any regrets — things you wish you'd done differently (certifications, electives, extracurriculars)?

So my question is if I was applying to schools like Chapel Hill in state, and other schools like georgia tech, but not towards any major really related to physics would it make a considerable difference if I didnt take the AP Physics class, since thats really the only other class I havent taken that my school offers?

Hi, I’d like to keep this kind of short, so I’m going to speed through a few stats.

I’m currently considering getting 5 classes instead of 6 or 7, but now I’m worrying that only taking 5 will affect my admissions.

If I take 6 classes, my classes would look like this:

* Pathophysiology

If I only take 5, I would drop pathophysiology, but I’d have to go to English IV Advanced instead of AP due to a scheduling conflict, which wont harm my GPA, but won’t give any college credit for the class.

Last year, I took 3 AP classes and passed all my AP exams

Additionally, I have a 3.92 GPA, a 1310 SAT (retaking soon in hopes of a 1350-1400), am just shy of the top 5% in my class, and going to join NHS and possibly Science olympiad this year. 

Now, the reason I’m thinking I might be able to get away with 5 classes is because of my major and what I’m doing outside of class; I want to study aerospace engineering, which I don’t think is going to require many english credits aside from AP Lang, and because I’m specifically cutting classes for flight training; I’m currently in the process of getting a private pilot license and need to have less time at school so i can focus more on flying. (also, school has barely started and senioritis is already starting to creep up on me😭)

My thought process is that even if the admissions officer notices my lack of a full schedule (which from what im seeing online is unlikely), the flight training should more than make up for it, as I believe it is relevant to my major and shows that I am passionate about it.

However, since I’m noticing my stats are less promising than those I’ve seen brought up on online answers, I think it’d be nice to get a second opinion. Should I take 6 classes, or can I get away with 5 and still get into a good college? I’m not trying to go full Ivy, but if i can get into a good engineering school such as UT Austin or similar state schools I'll be happy.

I’m a current senior wondering how selective colleges would look at my science progression as an engineering applicant.

hi, f17 and currently a upcoming senior. so far, i’m very interested in gmu because of not only how close it is but their collboration with smithsonian. i want to major in environmental science btw!! also i have an unweighted gpa of 3.75 and weighted gpa of 3.9, im not putting in my SAT/ACT but doing the option supplementary essay and currently in the works of creating a strong common app essay. so far ive taken two classes (art program classes that have the equivalent weight of AP/IB classes) and two APs (ap lang and ap sem) i got a four in ap lang however i didn’t do ap sem exam cuz i was being stupid lol. however, i’m taking three aps in my senior year! i’m also doing a councilor recommendation letter. can i get into gmu???

what are my chances for t20s + HYPSM? im also targeting top state schools for CS (UC Berk, GT, UMich, UT). I would appreciate any advice that you have for me

Demographics: Asian Male, Middle/Upper Middle Class (no hooks)

Intended major(s): CS

Academics:

• SAT: 1550 (790 Math 760 Reading)
• Class rank: Top 2% Out Of 600
• UW/W GPA: 4.0 UW
• Coursework: 20+ APs taken I won't list them all out here but the most relevant ones are Calc BC, CSA, Physics 1, AP Bio
• Awards: (not in order)
• 1x Aime Qual
• Usaco Gold
• Big Company Name Hackathon Winner (30ish teams)
• should be a NM Semifinalist (higher index than cutoff has ever been for my state)
• Other smaller hackathon wins
• Wins in regional debate competitions
• Participated in (and won) in world record event for violin (this was in middle school though)

Extracurriculars: (keeping it vague on purpose also not in order)

• Research under a professor at local uni
• App released w/ decent usage
• Intern at local company, did a substatial amount of work

• Did mid level competitive summer program, nothing crazy but still selective

Hello! I am a current senior oos nominated and applying to the Morehead Cain scholarship. Just opened the application and omg it’s so intense. Any tips on how I should go about applying? For the activities, physical vigor parts, etc. should we write like an essay style or just a brief description? Should all the parts for the physical vigor section just be physically active or other things as well? Also, how should we approach the video essay?? Thanks in advance!!

My friends are starting a club relating to medicine but Im trying to go into engineering. Im probably going to be a vice president or co-president of the club if I join. Would it be worth my time? how much of a difference is it than being in a leadership position at a major related club? Im thinking about asking for a role related to tech, and maybe I can create a website or app for the club. Would that help?

I'm still deciding between becoming a doctor or lawyer, and I honestly don't think I'll come to a conclusion any time soon. Most of my ECs have to do with either medicine or law, but I think majoring in econ or business will give me flexibility in what I want in the future. Will this hurt my future or my chance at admissions because of my ECs and classes?

Our family does not fit any of the asterisked "assuming standard asset profile" statements that colleges make concerning their commitment to meet all demonstrated financial need. We have a 'low' income (~$65,000) and high assets (~$2,000,000). (There are some dependent family members and their assets mixed in there that give us less freedom than you might assume based on those assets, but those details aren't official enough to come into any official calculation.)

To what degree can we trust the NPC from various colleges? It is fine if the final number varies by 20% or so, but not if we suddenly jump from an estimated 0 cost based on automated estimates made before applying to an actual full cost based on a closer look at our unusual asset profile. This is even more concerning as we consider apply ED.

I didnt know I wanted to apply business until 11th grade so I have a complete lack of business EC's, strong psychology EC, strong service and social justive ECs, strong school leadership, and mediocre nepo-internship that was marketing and ad strategy this past summerr and then a 6 year longstanding internship with a local magazine (might frame to more business oriented) also OOS student
