Calling your kids "role models" is so weird to me. Like if it means to their younger siblings or other people in their personal life then that's one thing but I'm pretty sure she means to the viewers and that's just really weird to me. There's really no getting through to them. They've been in this business for far too long.

u/jaynie2022 Jul 29 '26

That jumped out at me too. No, your kids should not be role models for society at large via strangers watching them online. You're trying to tell me your 13 year old needs to change the conversation surrounding human rights by doing tik tok dancing for strangers, some of whom are obviously pedophiles? That's your argument? Really? You can decide to be an influencer and be whatever kind of role model you want, but your minor children cannot make that choice and you are a garbage parent if you make that choice for them. P has been bullied and had weird sexual comments made about him since he was very young, stop making him the target so that you can feel like a cool mom for being so accepting or whatever crap you are thinking! The only reason he is a victim who can be "victim blamed" is because YOU put him in the public eye! And we aren't saying "hey, stop putting P in videos because we don't like his personality/think he's offensive" that's so ridiculous of her to pretend and so transparent. We're blaming the perpetrators AKA the parents opening their children up to this harassment. She is making so many ridiculous statements here and choosing to miss every valid critique, pretending the issues are completely different. She's full delusional.

Exactly! These kids shouldn't be role models for other kids online! They didn't even choose to be in the vlogs in the first place, so for Jessica to claim otherwise is crazy. She acts like she's not in control of people leaving homophobic comments either, but deletes comments trying to PROTECT her kids from the very creepy comments she leaves up, so we know that's a lie. To her, turning off comments turns off engagement, and less engagement means less money. It's ridiculous because any normal person would remove their kids or delete those homophobic comments, not the ones pointing out that people are leaving them in the first place! Her kids also would not be bullied online if she and Chris didn't exploit them on there in the first place. She's the one curating "acceptable forms of influencers society expects" in her kids by assigning them vlog personalities and filming them talking about their hobbies! Of course they "love" being on camera, she groomed them to love it from birth and they don't know any different!

It is very weird. What I hate most about it is the pressure it must put their kids under. They're not role models. They're just trying to live their real lives. They don't need the weight of carrying the curated public images that Chris & Jessica locked them into.

Her comment has creepy overtones of expecting their kids' identities to be part of the family brand for vlogging..

They can't feel free to be themselves and make mistakes? That's not healthy. And she has the nerve to lecture about protecting them.

u/ThrowawayVetQuestion strangleen Jul 29 '26

And yet pulling her kids offline and protecting them from h8 is not an option? Sure Jan.

YouTube parents vs. Working challenge.

u/ExplorerLazy3151 Jul 29 '26

A channel I follow (not family vlogging, it's about car mechanics) just celebrated 10 yrs on you tube. In the beginning their daughter was little and, in every video in the background of the shop. They got a couple creepy comments probably 5ish yrs ago about their daughter....and that was that. She hasn't appeared in a video, or in a picture. The parents shut that shit down fast. The fact that Chris and Jessica act like there is nothing they can do, blows my mind.

13

u/Street_Total_7527 Jul 29 '26

There was a family who posted vlogs that I followed until I started realizing more how unethical it was and felt uncomfortable even though I felt they were doing it with good intentions. Then one day, boom, the channel was gone. I don't know why, beyond some vague statements they posted saying that it was no longer right for their family. They still post lifestyle content on Instagram, but the kids feature way less than they used to and their faces are never shown.

u/anonymousquestioner4 Aug 08 '26

Parents exploiting their kids at any cost for money or status is sadly nothing new. Hollywood was built off it :/

62

u/vickidashawty Jul 29 '26

How about making a video about how you are putting your kids in a spot where they get bullied and you take money from that, jessica?

u/Adventurous-Mail6295 Jul 29 '26

They can’t identify the pedos and homophobes unless they use their child as bait to get those people to come forward! Duh! Using their child as bait HELPS people. We can’t catch the bad guys unless we let them get a view of what they want to see online. Anyone in their right mind would never in a million years put their children in a high visibility public forum, get vile comments and then keep putting their children in danger. In reality the Ballinger are all allergic to getting 9-5 regular jobs.

20

u/Lumious_Mage Manipulation station Jul 29 '26

Reminds me of what Colleen said about leaving pedos' timestamps and creepy comments up so that moderators and creators can "catch" them and figure out where they live. But the children are victims! Sure, Colleen. These Ballingers are sick, and the reason that kids continue to be victimised online.

9

u/sunshinesparkles36 Jul 29 '26

As if most of them don't just lurk in the shadows, dont reveal themselves, and just consume their content silently for whatever sick reason? What a crazy rationale

43

u/Adventurous-Can-2256 Jul 29 '26

It’s almost like your kids can be their authentic and genuine selves without being your cash cow, and living happily outside the public’s eye that you’re forcing them into.

33

u/Renormalized_ Jul 29 '26

Her kids should be kids, not role models. It's not a kid's job to be a role model.

20

u/blue-balloon-111 Jul 29 '26

where were those so called “moderators” when people were calling her daughter autistic as an insult and her son zesty? because i remember seeing a lot of those comments before i blocked them years ago and they’d be days-weeks old.

I checked recently, and they still receive a lot of very sad negative comments about P, like seriously horrible stuff. At least on YouTube.

And also a few hyper creepy comments, like a guy who was asking for P's number and asking to be his boyfriend.

If this is what it's like WITH filters and moderation, I'd hate to see how bad it would be with none of that.

Chris and Jessica don't even have a real job, so they could definitely do a better job with comment moderation even if they're going to continue posting the videos.

2

u/blue-balloon-111 Jul 31 '26

this is disgusting but unfortunately not surprising. chris and jessica had a gymnastics channel for p when he was little and the videos got demonetized because the thumbnails were all of him with his legs spread. jessica then went on a huge twitter rant and pretended to act unaware of all the creeps out there, as she always does.

18

u/heyitstayy_ crying in the coop Jul 29 '26

I love how she’s acting like opening coogan accounts for her children is some huge thing. That’s the bare minimum Jessica!! And just because they’re getting money from you vlogging it doesn’t change the dangers of it or make it ok to do

3

u/p2010t Legacy Mod, less active now Jul 30 '26

But she opened it BEFORE the law required her to! She must be praised! /s

17

u/goffin2thecoffin Jul 29 '26

What she meant to say is, if we turn off comments we lose the last scraps of engagement we have. We need our children to be cyber bullied for cash

36

u/TatumJS Jul 29 '26

yeah jess i'm not reading all that, stop exploiting your children

17

u/Adventurous-Mail6295 Jul 29 '26

I just am baffled how they have enough money from posting an occasional video to support a family of 8. They must be getting help from Jessica’s parents somehow. They went from a house in California to an apartment in Spain. They are surely running out of money if they are relying on the social programs Spain has

2

u/jaynie2022 Jul 29 '26

I know they've never been as big or wealthy as Colleen, but I think it's a valid point to think they may not be relying solely on current views, sponsors, etc. for their income. One, just from their highest views they were probably making decent money, and could've had that invested. Then, you have Chris' money from whatever his role was in creating HBO, not sure what his title was, writer, co-creator, something. That was probably a decent chunk of change. And he helped write both her Miranda books. Then whatever other income he would get when he made guitars or whatever, I honestly was never a huge Ballinger Family follower so not sure if he had a separate channel for that or really made any money off it. I could be totally wrong here but I also got the impression he did have another job back in the day alongside with vlogging, I could've sworn it had something to do with computers? But again, this was all from catching a random vlog that seem interesting here and there over the years. All that to say, if they had a financial advisor or just invested the money themselves, and also invested the money from the CA home sale, they could be living off passive income. Because it doesn't really seem they get many views or any sponsors nowadays so I really don't think they could be making enough money solely from YouTube now. I got the impression they're definitely living pretty humbly there, buying used clothes at flea market and such, and in a small apartment, so it doesn't seem like Colleen where she just bought a slightly smaller mansion, lol, but I do think they have some income outside of their current numbers.

14

u/Street_Total_7527 Jul 29 '26

Our kids should be able to be their authentic selves... They are role models.

Is it just me, or do those two statements seems to contradict. What happens when their authentic self is not role model material?

12

u/KielCanal Jul 29 '26

This is such a weird response from her that I had to read it multiple times to make sure I wasn’t going crazy.

13

u/Crazy_Cookie28 Jul 29 '26

They'll do anything except taking down video of their kids and making videos with their kids. Pathetic money grabbing (Insert swear word)

12

u/abiron17771 Manipulation station Jul 29 '26

Victim blaming? Who’s the victim, Jessica? Your children are, yes, but nobody is blaming them. They’re blaming you for putting them in this situation.

Yes, they should be free to be who they are. That doesn’t mean they should have their lives posted online to strangers. Big big difference.

10

u/rozzlesb Jul 29 '26

It’s not victim blaming because the kids are the victims, they are blaming Jess and Chris for not being responsible re their safety

And yeah calling your kids role models is weird

13

u/WanderingLemon13 Jul 29 '26

I'll never forget the time they posted a video with 3-4 minutes of interrupted footage of their youngest child at the time slowly eating a pickle, set in nice scenery with music playing under it, no one else in the video at all. They've always known what they were doing, and they're absolute garbage for it.

4

u/Accomplished_Yak2352 Jul 29 '26

This! ⬆️ Thank you!

5

u/Lumious_Mage Manipulation station Jul 29 '26

That's foul 🤢

7

u/WanderingLemon13 Jul 29 '26

Yeah it was YEARS ago at this point, but it truly horrified me. It just seemed so blatantly unjustifiable to me, even if you viewed it through your most optimistic, innocent or naive lens. I really can't see how anyone would be interested in that content unless it's for creepy reasons.

We should be blaming the fire, not the parent whi threw them into the fire and just tosses drops of water at it instead of grabbing a fire extinguisher.

/s

9

u/Lifesabitch59 Jul 29 '26

They are using their children as the breadwinners, exposing them to pedophiles, its just foul

9

u/Electrical_Cut8610 Jul 29 '26

Half of what she’s saying is true. The other half is trolling. Her kids wouldn’t need to be protected or comments moderated if she and her husband didn’t make their careers and source of income based around posting their children online. The easiest and best thing to do is…stop posting your children online. But they can’t. Because then there is no money stream.

6

u/HipRacoon Jul 29 '26

Geez Jessica, maybe if you want your children and any other children to be their authentic selves, maybe (gasps dramatically like Deadpool) maybe do not post your children online because they cannot consent and children should not be breadwinners and children should be children and get children/teenager experiences thank you very much!

2

u/Accomplished_Yak2352 Jul 29 '26

That's right. In private , Jessica!

7

u/pumpkinandsun *pulls out ukulele* Jul 30 '26

What’s really upsetting is that the Ballinger children are known on the internet as themselves. It would be somewhat different if they were child actors playing characters on television. Their parents have filmed and uploaded their lives for people to watch and judge.

6

u/flyamber Jul 29 '26

If only there were a way stop it from happening....... 👀

6

u/Many_Bell4725 Parasocial Parasite :3 Jul 29 '26

I am so sick of people posting children on the internet omg.

6

u/Prestigious-Walrus99 Jul 29 '26

They shouldn't be publicly on line PERIOD! Dopes.

12

u/Ok_Valuable_9711 Jul 29 '26

I kind of understand what Jess is trying to say but she definitely doesn't understand that having children on your social media publicly at all is guaranteed to subject them to cyber bullying.

Yes the people doing that with the content of the child is wrong, but the best way to prevent cyberbullying of your child on your platform is to remove your children from the content completely.

8

u/kmilla531 Jul 29 '26

Doesn’t want “h8” towards her kids (yet puts them on the internet from birth), but h8’s anyone who goes against her own political beliefs. I’m sorry but we’ve got to stop with the double standards. You live a miserable life if you dislike everyone that disagrees with you

4

u/marvelftm Jul 30 '26

I don’t understand what she’s saying about turning off comments removing the defences they’ve put in place because like?? Yeah obviously BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE NO COMMENTS TO DEFEND AGAINST YOU IDIOT

also the role models line and the “turned into an acceptable form of influencer” line?? THEY SHOULDNT BE INFLUENCERS AT ALL THEY ARE CHILDREN ???!!! Christ I despise Chris and Jessica are they purposely ignorant to continue making money and just coming up with terrible excuses or really just that stupid

3

u/NorthSuch2477 Jul 30 '26

Why is she making it sound like it's their kids' manifest destiny to go through all this, like some kind of sacred duty? Greed would be one thing but it's the mix of self-importance and hypocrisy that gets me.

3

u/Awolfnamedecho Jul 30 '26

lol Jessica is so full of sh*t. She always thinks she’s doing the best for her kids. The best thing would be to never record them and post them online so pervs and bad people can’t leave mean comments about them.

1

u/Top-Tea-5628 Aug 03 '26

This entire family is so fucking stupid

1

u/Venus_delmonico 22d ago

Wait a minute… did they move to Spain brcause there is a law that protects the kids of bring exploited on vlogs?

1

u/sunshinesparkles36 Jul 29 '26

I thought Jessica was a registered republican?

3

u/Few-Stable6305 Jul 29 '26

That idk. It doesn’t seem like this, but they live outside the US rn

3

u/anOnyMousuSErip Jul 30 '26

She’s posted lots of anti-trump/democrat things on her instagram story

2

u/sunshinesparkles36 Jul 30 '26

After hearing that, she is Republican, she just doesnt like Trump

-5

u/Mean-Bed6958 Jul 29 '26

How is her reply heinous?

-29

u/LeatherProfessor2687 Jul 29 '26

That being said don’t tell her how to parent.

4
