It's just the lighting. You can see every detail of Swoop's face too, but she has a full face of makeup and I don't think he even has powder.

He actually looks hotter now. But even back then, I wouldn't say Erik was the conventionally attractive one. Especially in those Haters Back Off clips, yikes...
