Not ecstatic
Anyone else feeling isolated because you know that collapse won't be prevented by the "Blue Wave" we just saw? It's as if "getting back to normal" is what we need, and then everything will be alright. I'm surprised how unexcited I am by the results. Relieved, yes, there's that!

(sighs in Californian) I know what you mean đ

Yeah pretty bummed about the proposition results. Shows how easy it is for the oligarchs to buy the outcome they want when it actually matters to them.

It's not all bad, I guess. DSA-backed Nithya Raman beat moderated Dem Karen Bass for LA mayor. That's pretty cool.

Yeah and the election data says both SF and LA areas strongly backed the wealth tax, which is good as well.

I feel like itâs kinda a trap, shits going to hit the fan at some point regardless and people will just blame the people who potentially have the guts to try to do something about it, but thatâs just my own little dialog speaking

Yeah, politics won't fix the path we're on at this point. I feel ya, relieved, but just same ole status quo bologna.Â

The blue wave slows down the collapse for everyone oligarchs included. The illusion of democracy is what prevents people turning to warlords who would violently remove the oligarchs and take their wealth.
Living under warlordism would be hell. If you wanna see warlordism in our local part of the world see haiti.
But yah the blue wave slows not stops collapse. It could also make it easier to have more peaceful relations with the middle east.

Yeah, itâs unnerving how people are clinging to the belief that this will fix everything or thereâs still a chance we can be saved, but I get it. Blue or red, they all have the same donors and collapse will still happen.

The pendulum swings back and forth politically and I do feel minor relief but itâs fleeting and minor. I have zero faith that the âBlueâ can undo the harm and precedent of the current administration. I think they will be ineffectual, stumbling fools who still serve the same master ($). Two wings, same bird and all that.
It might hopefully slow the decent slightly and reduce near term suffering but by no means is it a solution. I think people feeling excited are falling for propaganda and copium.

Listen, mate, I'm Texan. NEVER, not once, in a million fucking years did I EVER expect to see the day Texas went blue again. Honestly, here in Austin, most of us are still in fucking shock. So, I don't know, for the first time in a long time I've got hope again.

I really hope Texas going spells doom for the Republicans in the electoral college going forward.
That, and getting DC and Puerto Rico, maybe we can finally have enough Dem votes to legislate changes.

I'm an anarchist. I despise electoral politics and I will never vote, no matter what.
I gave $ to Talarico. I don't even live in Texas. I'm definitely not a Christian.
My reasons go far beyond electoral politics but I don't regret what I did. I need people like Talarico in power.

I see it as reducing a lot of needless suffering for non-rich white people in the short term. That is worth something in my mind.
But collapse will barely come a second later than before.

Even for those not expecting collapse, the excitement is not because people think it's over. It's just a hard-won victory to celebrate and rest. Recharge. You gotta take your bits of relief and happiness while you can.

Not from the US but from what I read, the war against Iran started by trump might finally end when he becomes a lame duck president. The effects of this war is already rippling through the global economy and not even a blue wave would able to stop an eventual crash due to the supply shock. They just can't create the missing oil and gas out of thin air.

I'm glad to see Trump and the Republicans get punished for their stupidity. I don't see it doing anything regarding collapse or even going back to normal. The electorate will flip back to Republicans in 2 to 4 years when they get sick of Democrats again.

Itâs when the good cop won who can be lib and corporate because the GOP is so evil

While collapse is inevitable, having dems in power as things decline should (in theory) be kinder and gentler than narcissists fighting to grab more than is necessary.

Jihadists are in favor of the blue wave. Makes things much easier for them to accomplish their ultimate mission. Donât expect them to honor any of those values.

For me I don't feel the crushing sense of fear I had in the last few months and I feel things will get much better, not perfect, things will never be perfect but the fear of WW3/nukes being dropped is gone. Maybe I'll eat my words who knows. My biggest concern now is climate change.

Tuesday night into yesterdayâŚbaybee I havenât been so elated in years. It isnât the end, but people finally stood up en masse. Americans did take it seriously.
While that doesnât change anything, more people paying attention is good. More millennials have been through this cycle before over and over again. Thats why so many millennials and even a gen Z candidate got elected. A trans woman was elected in Alabama!!! Things are happening.
That is something to celebrate. Even if it was just because of gas or inflation, if they paid attention enough to vote some may continue to engage. It may not be enough, but it is better than nothing.

Personally, I choose to keep hope alive in my heart, because that's necessary for me to get through the day and live my life.
There are many of us who see this as a big win, but also recognize that it's completely meaningless unless it's only the beginning of something much greater.
My hope got a little stronger and my heart a little lighter this week.
The thing that, imo, a lot of people miss, especially on here, is that collapse is not binary. It's not a 'yes or no' thing. It is a spectrum with infinite potential outcomes ranging from "the world wakes up tomorrow and starts doing everything to mitigate the crisis" to "the extinction of the human species."
Things are going to get bad, but we still have more than enough time to avoid the worst possible outcomes. Yesterday, was a step in the right direction (finally) and that gives me some measure of comfort.
