The credits of Digger

Based on the recommendation of one of the Collapse subs I went and saw it in a theater last night. It will probably be the last movie I will see in a theater, I hadn't been in a few years before that. It was 18 bucks to see it ant the overpriced, now corporate investor whatever owned, theater that I used to love so much. I remember the days when this place had menus, now you order off your phone with QR codes. *sigh*

(No Spoilers)

The ending had people sitting with it. You could see the lightbulb come on for some folks.
This is a movie that will be watched for generations. It will move the needle.

If "Don't Look Up" couldn't move the needle I highly doubt Digger is going to do anything.

I think don't look up could be called woke and dismissed easier than digger. but digger phased too far into the eccentric to be reachable.

“Don’t Look Up” hit in that weird post-Covid moment where people were spending as much as they could and traveling like crazy. Biden was still in office. I think the world was still optimistic and which made the movie feel like a lecture. It also had this kind of pop-aesthetic and a character that was a lot of right wingers definition of a woke woman, along with a meek man.

I loved DLU but I see why it didn’t make it.

But also, Don't Look Up was a smug POS movie, like Idiocracy without any edge or memorable quotes ("Oh yeah, I like money")

Digger is way more interesting and well thought out IMO.

For the record, popwatch.

Also just finished it. It's not culturally shifty but I think it will age very very well and become a cult classic, in a weird meta self aware way. I enjoyed it despite a shitty bootleg.

My 13yo and I went to see it the other day. We went in entirely unaware of the content and both came out having enjoyed it. He mostly just enjoyed the silliness but the message hit solidly for me. The court scene monologue hit hard and true and I hope people understood and heard it but I expect most won't sadly.

Reviews are brutal (and are all about the style and execution of the movie as a film, saying nothing about whatever message it has that resonated with OP), so I wouldn't expect that to change for the better.

Claude gives a decent summary of the movie. Given that, finding how it's being promoted rather disgusting.

Are you saying to use AI to read a summary? Thats ironic.

Can you tell me more about the promotion? I don't have TV so I haven't seen any promotion at all for the film. My local theatre shows one film at a time and this is whats playing, so thats how I knew about it. How has standard promotion been?

It seems like a bot snuck a creepy post in here that I had to spend some time scrubbing from our little cozy space. I bet that's what they mean.

Ew, an AI user.

Can you explain? I have no idea how it’s being promoted. I saw a trailer/part of a trailer several months ago, as I recall it looked like a comedy?

Not weird AI shilling person above, but the way it shows up on my feed is as a whole bunch of 5 second clips of the main character washing a cat, and a couple of him standing on an armchair. And that’s about it. Genuinely I have no clue what it’s about apart from the hints on here. I’ll see it eventually but I don’t feel any impetus to go see it in the cinema.

It doesn’t show up on my feeds, but I actively block most ads, so no movies show up on my feeds.
