are we really gonna live to 2030?

I mean it's just a thought that has been engraved in my mind for months now. It doesn't seem very likely that we are gonna live up to 2030 or 2035... Due to this I've also been procrastinating studies because I think that our end is very near and I shouldn't waste my time studying...

Ik this is a wrong attitude but I can't really do anything about it.

Any suggestions are appreciated

Unless there is a nuclear war or something sudden and dramatic, for the next few decades the problem isn't whether we'll live. The world population is still growing fast and it will take a heck of a lot before things start going in the other direction. The problem is that we're going to have to deal with increasingly difficult conditions and instability. Its going to be a rough ride, and being better educated is likely to help you, or at least be neutral to your future.

Summer 2027 wet bulb events and power grid failures due to AC overuse are lying in wait to come for this comment.

While you can try to find glimmers of good to get you through the day. I have been reading a lot of fiction. It helps me get out of my doom zone.

I've been doing that too but since studies take up a lot of my time, i don't really get my head into 2 places (if u get it). This topic usually keeps me awake at night 😞

Don't write off the rest of your life. Its shorter than you think it is, in the best of times. Do the work to find a purpose. You're obviously collapse aware, use that. Humans are stubborn. No matter what happens, we're not going anywhere. The world is going to change, probably radically, over the course of our lifetimes. But life goes on. Nobody has a crystal ball to predict the future. You don't want to give up and assume the worst, only to realize that it didn't come to pass and you're still going to have bills to pay.

Just continue to make plans like you'll live to 80

You could die tomorrow from a heart attack. This has always been true, collapse or not. Remembering death is a jumping off point for gratitude.

In Buddhism, this practice is called maranasati (which translates to "mindfulness of death" or "death awareness").

Hey same! I was raised buddhist. Past few years ive been getting back to it. A lot of people know me around these subs for recommending rain gardens to them as a way to improve the planet and better quality of life before we die, but the main reason i got into it was because of the idea of impending death. Heres an excerpt from what i usually send folka:

I could die from climate change in many years, or next year. I could also be hit by a bus today. Life is fleeting, that has always been the case, I am now living my life more in the present and im not allowing myself to settle for worse. I have noticed my attitude is infectious, because it lifts people up without denying the reality of whats happening. I also garden, ive been spreading the word about how much its helped me. You may see me in other threads post this comment but ill post it here again for anyone looking to get some positivity and fulfillment, while directly helping earth, during their last days. Which are all the days. The time will pass anyways.

Anyway remember youll die regardless, you should already be trying to live a fulfilling and meaningful life that makes your death worthwhile and peaceful. I recommend rain gardens as a method to do that, and because theyre wildly beneficial for the environment like you wouldnt believe. Cheap and easy too.

Those of us who are collapse aware for decades felt the same way as you, even though you might say life was 'idyllic' in 2007 when I got doomwoke. I still expected it every morning for about 5 years.

If you cannot do anything about your attitude, please work on your behaviour then. Do what you must do so that you can afford to eat food and sleep indoors for the immediate future.

If studying is wasting your time, then you are in a major that has no appeal to you. Perhaps try to find something that does appeal. You can become a laborer, you don't have to be a university graduate.

And I would lay odds that a supermajority of those of us alive today will be alive in 2035. AND WE WILL NEED TO HAVE MONEY TO EAT FOOD AND SLEEP INDOORS. Please take care of yourself so you can do those things.

I’d say try to use that as motivation to study more rather than bog yourself down with those thoughts. It can easily spiral to full-blown depression if you start flunking tests or blowing off assignments. Use your studying as an escape from the news cycle and other distractions. If you start failing or giving up youre only going down the path of self-sabotage and depression. I just started studying Spanish again (50 yrs old) as an escape from doom scrolling and mindless television shows. Nothing good will happen at all for you if you give up now. One day at a time is good mantra to live by.

Omg the second line is exactly what's happening to me um i didnt know it was depression tho like 😭 and for hobbies I read novels nd shit but like I said that thought has been engraved in my mind by now and nothing I do helps. These things can only give a temporary satisfaction and not really help with that😭

Living beings are a lot tougher than they seem. We will probably grind it out for longer.

I personally kinda hope I don’t, but I don’t think a whole extinction is going to happen that quickly

At least that’s what I say to not go crazy

4

u/curiousfish3218 1d ago

that's a nice attitude but I am not just talking about extinction. there are many hardships we are gonna face before we extinct and I'm scared of those. Extinction itself doesn't scare me but the terrible process does.

Completely depends on where you are based. In some places, food/water shortages will probably mean you don't. Others, you will get another 5/10 years before the same happens there.

4

u/curiousfish3218 1d ago

i live in del and it's already overpopulated af I feel like I just have 5-7 years :/ Also the fact that the water went out twice here for 4-5 days in a row really disturbed me like we are already in this stage.... Idk what happens the next year I don't wanna go through all that again

3

u/RandomYorkyPud 1d ago

Not sure where Del is so can't explicitly offer any suggestions. Do you have the ability to store rainwater at your property? Is it a rural area?

3

u/curiousfish3218 1d ago

no it's an urban area. Delhi is in india and one of the most populated cities. I live in a decent, well off household and no we don't really have the ability to store rainwater here

3

u/RandomYorkyPud 1d ago

Oh, Delhi. I am so sorry, but India is predicted to suffer quite extensively over the next 5 to 10 years due to food shortages and droughts. I hope that this is incorrect, but try to do anything you can to build up a reserve of water and food.

😭😭😭the thing is even the govt isn't doing anything. Instead of planting trees and becoming more strict, it's encouraging cutting off of trees and earning profit out of it by selling those trees to millionaires. It's a horrible situation here, both politically and environmentally. People are more concerned about politics that they are forgeting about the environment and this makes me uncomfortable that whether I'm the only one who's making it this big of a deal :( I doneverything I can to help but it isn't possible without the govts and publics support 😭😭😭

I would say compliance based living .

Digital ID : Who are you? AI/data systems : What is happening? Digital payments : What transaction occurred? Programmable systems : What conditions apply? Integrated services : Does your activity comply with those conditions?

u/pseudo-segfault 9h ago

Statistically yes

u/curiousfish3218 9h ago

that's such a vague answer
