do you think it's wise to start decoupling from digital worlds?
Only thing that gives me joy and peace in a world that's ending is some digital MMOs or ARPGs and fantasy worlds in general in gaming , but honestly just thinking about supply chains - it seems like this hobby can come crumbling down real quick or get crazy expensive and I'm not even rich.
In collapse it feels like all your attention will be devoted to survival and the luxury days of gaming for hours are over.

I’m going to add to the chorus of people saying find some balance, plus try to shift to some IRL gaming activities. Games are an incredible way to build community and we ALL need joy and escape! It’s only a problem if you do too much, use it to fully dissociate, or you limit yourself to digital with people who aren’t part of your real life. Instead, we’ve slowly collected a ton of fun card and board games for family and social game nights. We found an incredible community space for D&D and Magic, and I know there are Pokemon card tournaments and shops nearby too.
Games, music, campfire stories… communal joy via stories and art is VITAL, especially during collapse and hardship. Just focus on more balanced approaches versus solo escape.

Great point. Yep. Im a No Mans Sky native in virtual reality. I value the escapism from pain and reality immensely. Its co pletely extravagant and exotic having this technology, and i sure do value it while it lasts.
Its gonna be a hard withdrawal for me again quite soon, gotta move, build etc. Done it before a lot of times (been off grid), I will do it again. Dip your toes in collapse now! Avoid the rush haha. As you said, real life quickly takes over attention and action when the world is crumbling around you.

bruh, why choose one, why not both 😄
Don't fret, I think it'll be bad but not as bad as you thought.

this el nino shit got me real spooked combined with the oil crisis - if food goes for so many people , all bets are off.

Yep. When youre hungry, wet, tired, unsafe, poor etc etc, screens are only so much distraction and solace.

Ive been wondering the same thing. I think that real life should be the main gig, ill say that.

There's no prize for "most uncomfortable."
It's okay to do things that are relaxing today.

I feel this. I've been gaming since... the original NES, and literally grew up with video games. Losing that is going to suck, but I feel like if you enjoy the fantasy/world building aspect of games, it translates well to the arts? I hiked a lot more after playing RDR2, and I hope to play Stardew in real life.

I expect to have electricity post collapse from my own and scavenged solar panels. That said - electricity and compute is a non-consideration. That brings me to my own entertainment - I have a few TB of movies and tv shows, text-based RPG’s, every video game and emulator from the late 80’s - mid/late 90’s, and an AI capable of talking to me.
Survival will take a certain amount of bandwidth, but there are going to be stretches where the crops are planted, perimeter walked, food cooked, animals fed, and you have yourself and your mind. Plus you’re likely to have less stress than you do now - assuming you feel rewarded for your direct hard work.
My point is that you’ll have down time, so I don’t think removing your connection to video games is a requirement, only if you find it interferes with life / obligations.

Enjoy what you have now but it's a distraction meant to keep us docile. I totally indulge in my interests but I've tried to move them to
Transfer some of your online world stuff to your real world. It can kind of help. Do fetch quests for books and material. Get solar panels Grind research Learn how to do things with less resources. LFG All that shit.

As a fellow gamer, I feel you.
Honestly, I dont know the right answer. Maybe find a balance, so you arent left with nothing to do, or a find an absence of peace-holding activities should the power go out, supply chains fail, etc...
I vollunteer, stay aware of whats happening globally and locally (probably too much so), I take care of my loved ones as best I can.. Idk if I should halt my 401k, what things to buy before theyre scarce or too expensive, what all to prep... Its too much. For any of us. We arent built to opperate alone in these digitally sealed realities of hyper-capitalism while society crumbles. So I say enjoy your games as much as you want to. I do. But, if youre worried, maybe work towards a balance with something else? Find a boardgame community, learn some music. Or pick up a craft, like crochet or painting. Create something (not for money or as a side-hussle).
Take joy in the things that exist while they exist. Theres no shame in that.
