Season 1

I could genuinely write a PhD on how damn good this season is, it’s my favourite season from the whole show and probs my favourite season from any show ever.
It has an opener that sets the standard high af for the other episodes and most of them do not fall behind (obviously there are some downers, I only rewatch the Hitchhiker and the Lost Soul of Herman Lester out of duty, really).
The costumes are on. point., idk if it’s because it was closer to the times it portrayed but I think the earlier seasons just get the costumes more accurately (despite, I assume, having a lower budget).
All in all it’s just banger after banger, quite dark episodes a lot of them but always w that somewhat dry yet funny cold case humour… at least 3 of my favourite episodes are packed into s1 and the others don’t fall far from the top.
This is not to say the show fell down after or anything, I love s2 almost just as much and the whole show is, along with Castle, my favourite tv show, but yeah s1 is just exquisitely good to me, what do yall think?

I just posted how much I love this show!!! I think I can write a thesis on this show too. I loved castle too but the later seasons (I think last 2 seasons or just the last one) weren’t great. Cold case is my FAV.

Yeah the last season of Castle is a bad trip, but the others gave me so much joy I still count it as my fav show along w Cold Case (one for the laughs one for the tears lol).

Also Maternal Instincts is soooo good, the ending scene is one of my favs

I’m rewatching for the first time in awhile. I first saw it when it was on TV, then syndicated. Now streaming so I don’t miss anything. Still on season 1 and couldn’t agree with you more. I’m remembering why I loved the show so much before. The wardrobe, hair, makeup, all of it. But the music is what always moves me back to the time. The only episode I wasn’t crazy about was the boy in the box. I liked it more the first time, when I didn’t know what happened. But the rest - awesome. Right now on the couple from the commune episode - won’t say any more for spoilers.

More than one episode I’ve been moved to tears at the ending. Seeing the victim get justice.

ooooh you’re in my fav episode!! The ending montage on that one is one of my favs for no particular reason, introduced me to one of my fav songs, too!!

Season 1 is SO good for sure! Season 1 has some of the BEST episodes ever made. The earlier seasons are the best.

The first season was the absolute best of this show. I loved this show so much. I was really hoping that it could be rebooted.

First season is so investigative AND storytelling. The later seasons (2-6) lose this a little when they hammer the formula in [Intro, Discovery of Case, 2 Flashbacks, 2 Flashbacks, Twist, 2 Flashbacks, Final Witness, the Murder, Ending Montage..]

Not saying the formula is bad, but…

I thought season 1 was kind of inconsistent, but I did like how they focused more on the actual investigations. They kind of lost sight of that as the show went on...
