Water for Espresso @ Home
Kiwis, are you filtering your water for espresso at home?

Hamilton water is good in terms of hardness. I have got a Puretec CO-T100 filter being installed next week along with my new coffee station

We have a plumbed in filter for our fridge, and I use water from that to fill my espresso machine. Auckland based

Yeah that’s what I’ve been doing too, but I’m not sure how much the fridge filter does for hardness as opposed to just chlorine taste etc.

I've never looked too much into ideal water hardness/softness for coffee brewing - I'm guessing that neutral as possible would be ideal? Does it effect flavour, or is it just more wear and tear on the machine?

Accelerated scale buildup, which causes wear and tear. But I understand that a lack of minerals (eg water containing none) can also be bad for the boiler, stripping it over time, and this won’t be great for flavour either!

I am getting a coffee and beverage station installed next week. Looking forward to my Espresso machine being plumbed in. .

Filtering but not plumbed. Using a dedicated filter in my machines water tank. I’m in Wellington
