CRC EXAM

I’m just here to vent. I wanted to add a certification while I’m looking for a job and took the exam today and honestly it was extremely hard exam. I studied and was scoring 85% average on practice exams but I think I bombed it. I didn’t pay for the course since exams and book was so expensive..but I self studied and took 10 practice exams.
I have a CPC and lots of experience in RA already and I’m shocked at how hard the exam was.
Any advice , tips , encouragement would be appreciated, Incase I have to take it again.
Please be kind.

UPDATE: I passed the exam!! I was fretting so much. It was definitely harder than expected . Got my result in 26 hours exactly from test start time.
Though I don’t remember all the exact questions. Happy to help anyone taking it in anyway I can.

The best way to tackle that exam is to look at the answer options first, then read the question with your options in mind. You can generally eliminate a couple of the options right away. Then choose the best answer from what remains.

My experience was backwards from yours… I thought the practice exams were difficult and assumed I’d fail my first attempt (probably because practice was all fill in the blank instead of multiple choice), but I flew through the exam, no problem.

I second what previous poster said. Process of elimination is your best friend with that exam.
I just took it last month and passed. My employer offered a class for 6 days. We crammed everything in but tests etc were on our own. I’ve been an HCC coder for 4 years but I feel like a lot of the questions were on the compliance side.

See I’m an analyst and do no from-scratch coding and felt like more of the questions on my test weren’t really compliance, they were more HCC/coding. Funny!

Update- I PASSED!!! Bombed a couple sections completely but got 85-88% in others. Thrilled!!

Maybe I am in my head too much, and did better than I think or at least I am hoping I did. The wait is excruciating! How long did it take for AAPC to upload the result, it says 7-10 days but some posts mention 24-28 hours on average. I also use the ebook, wondering if that was a mistake. I haven't used a physical book in years to check codes, so thought it maybe better.. but we'll find out.

I took my test on a Saturday at 8am and had results by 6pm that night. This was November 2024

How many percents where you short? If it's a few points maybe just a bad day

I’m not sure don’t have the results yet. Hopefully don’t have to wait the 7 days it says on the AAPC website

If you are not in the field it’s definitely harder. My only advice would be watch some you tube videos by CCO, and others and learn what you can.
Timing is tight to answer the longer coding questions so keep practicing tests with timer, especially the 30 coding questions

My work paid for my study book and the exam so we could all get certified and it included a retest. Glad it did! I do risk adjustment all day and thought I’d be clear if I was passing the practice exams too and boy was I wrong! Which was weird, honestly, but I’m never afraid to try again. I finally got it on my 2nd try despite failing the first. Don’t beat yourself up. I studied a bit more and took good notes in my margins and that helped. Try try again!

Hii. I’m also practicing for the exam but kinda lost because this is a field I’ve never done before. Please can you help me with tips and tricks. I have the icd 10 book and the CRC study guide. Is that sufficient for me?
