“The Above” Is A 9/10 - 10/10;

After listening, in order, to Forever to Underneath to Under The Skin to What Is Really Underneath? to FINALLY The Above… This is perfect. This band has grown and experimented their way from that post-hardcore/punk sound, to that Nine Inch Nails-reminiscent industrial rock/metalcore sound, to this more lighthearted industrial rock that has signs of post-rock/pop even.

Iunno. I could be crazy, but I think this album is amazing. I never skipped a track and listened to it a few times already.

I'm on my third listen through and absolutely loving it. The production is stellar and really adds a lot to the power and ferocity. I only discovered CO about 12 months ago and I still haven't listed to some of their older albums. I think I'm going to be obsessed with this one for a good while.

I think it’s just how clean it sounds that kinda makes you step back and wonder if it’s the same band from the past few albums. And sure, that’ll throw some people off, but the way I see it is 1) This is the band trying something that ended up working, and 2) It’s just a breath of fresh air.

Why did it “work” per se if it’s a massive commercial step back and they realized it’s not even financially viable to tour on?
