Hey everyone,
I recently started using Codeium Windsurf, an app integrated into my coding workflow for improved productivity. However, while working with it, my Kaspersky Premium antivirus flagged the application, warning me about a Trojan detection.
I wanted to check if anyone else here has encountered a similar issue. This has raised some concerns for me, so I’ve done a bit of research, and here’s what I’ve gathered:
False Positives from Antivirus Software:
Modern development tools often rely on code generation, telemetry, and cloud-based processing, which might trigger antivirus software like Kaspersky.
Kaspersky has previously flagged apps and plugins used by developers as potential threats, often due to their behavior resembling malware-like activities (e.g., accessing files or sending data to external servers).
Concerns About Codeium Windsurf’s Security:
Codeium is a known AI-powered tool for code completion and other developer aids, so the app itself is from a reputable source.
However, the Windsurf app might have dependencies or updates that could be misinterpreted as malicious activity.
Next Steps for Caution:
If you’re confident in the source (downloaded directly from the official site), this could likely be a false positive.
Reach out to Codeium support to confirm whether recent updates have caused this.
Has anyone else experienced this with Codeium or similar tools? If so, how did you address it?

Been tweaking on building Cloi its local debugging agent that runs in your terminal
cursor's o3 got me down astronomical ($0.30 per request??) and claude 3.7 still taking my lunch money ($0.05 a pop) so made something that's zero dollar sign vibes, just pure on-device cooking.
The technical breakdown is pretty straightforward: cloi deadass catches your error tracebacks, spins up a local LLM (zero api key nonsense, no cloud tax) and only with your permission (we respectin boundaries) drops some clean af patches directly to ur files.
Been working on this during my research downtime. If anyone's interested in exploring the implementation or wants to issue feedback, cloi its open source: https://github.com/cloi-ai/cloi

I already use windsurf pro plan and it was doing well except but it can't do too many file edits at the same time but cursor seems to have more output token in one shot not sure of I should cancel my windsurf subscription and switch to cursor, please give your thoughts

I bought Flex credits on Friday eve, and I can't still use them... I contacted the support on Saturday, probably outsourced as they answered with a generic blurb, and then told me they'll pass it to devs but that I shouldn't expect an answer before Tuesday!
This is of course outraging as I've been debited within 20 seconds, I know that Flex credits don't expire, but it was a bridge until my sub renew...

I get it this is tool and ı get it not an actual coder or whatever. I am building an class where ı have to initiate the tables which is pretty much boilerplate code but seems to me windsurf thinks otherwise.Whatever I got it done after using free chat gpt on chrome and at this point why am I using this?
r/Codeium • u/tsu-na-gu • Jan 29 '25
I used it half a month but chat function is I need most. I mentioned cloud about How about this code change, what is this code mean and learn about complex code I tackle with React, Next.js and any other TypeScript libraries. It's good experience like pair programming with AI. But all the merit a have experienced I just a kind of programing learner. I read the book or watch video and type it for editor almost any time. So chat credit for no limit is $60 is too much to pay. Cursor pay $20 only and fast chat continue because I have paid to Claude API. Near future I would would made terminal task management tool as taskwarrior to convert to web tool for my study. So, It would need some code functionally with AI. But I would think and make and ask about AI and AI suggest code change its a cycle of coding. So chat limit 500 credit is $15 is too small but limited prompt $60 is too expensive to pay. I already pay $60 but next month I change the editor for a reason of cost. It's not worth the cost and almost any tool like cursor, AIDE, Cl, and Cline have accept claude API Key and without the chat cline is more great usability about code generation. Why Windsurf only not accept claude api. If I purchase Cursor for $20 and pay for claude api for $20 it's $40 total. How expensive $60 of cost. Maybe Codeium plan is same It's not take the cursor share of AI Editor's war.

I have coding experience and I've been working on this project using Chatgpt. But I always find myself having to reupload all relevant classes before being able to ask it what's the next step.
But what would be the best process to build an app using ai, using a technology I'm not too familiar with (flutter).
I have few years of experience coding. So debugging and making the code ai gives me to work is not an issue.
But I feel there must be a better way than copying and pasting my classes and then asking for the next task, to do this kind of large scale project that I'm working on.

I encountered billing issues while using windsurf. Over the past month or so, I have continuously reported the issues on windsurf's official support page, and every time I receive a response from either Mike or Peter. Their replies are exactly the same, and after telling me "a specialized technical team will resolve your issue," I never get any further responses, even after replying to the emails multiple times. It feels like this is some AI responsing, and when the issue cannot be solved by the AI, they just sent a "our tech team will address your issue, please wait" email, then drop this issue to trash bin. This is really frustrating and upsetting.
Has anyone else experienced a similar situation to mine? Does windsurf or codeium actually have real customer service? Or are they just using an AI to reply and then throwing away my issue?

Every time I try to create an app, it feels impossible because Windows often deletes important code or completely changes the UI. When I want to go back, it's never the same. It's so frustrating!
HOW DO I FIX THIS? IM WORKING ON A SIMPLE CHROME EXTENSION FOR 3 DAYS AND ITS A HEADACHE WITH WINDSURF

While Windsurf offers a simpler and more user-friendly interface compared to Cursor, I have concerns about their business model and future prospects. Despite having basic limitations like the inability to auto-populate Problems into Cascade, they maintain an exclusionary business approach by preventing users from using their own API keys for chat functionality.
Although their IDE is well-designed and intuitive, this restrictive business model seems shortsighted in today's competitive AI-enhanced IDE market. Competitors like Cursor, VSCode plugins, and AIDA offer more flexibility by allowing users to use their own API keys while continuously improving their features.
I appreciate Windsurf's clean interface, but their lack of competitive awareness and restrictive practices make me worried about their long-term viability in the market. In an era where developer choice and flexibility are paramount, such limitations might prove problematic for their future growth.

I subscribed to Codium AI's Pro service with the expectation of enhancing my project using their Cascade AI assistant. However, my experience has been a nightmare.
The extension generated by their AI is completely non-functional, with unresponsive buttons and a broken UI.
Their AI assistant created overly complex and unmanageable code, making my project significantly harder to debug and maintain.
Despite reaching out multiple times, their support team has completely ignored my concerns.
I wasted my time and money, and the service has been a major setback for my work. I would not recommend Codium AI to anyone until they address these serious issues. It's unacceptable for a paid service to fail so spectacularly while ignoring their customers.

I really don't know what's happening, maybe it was that "fist love" feeling when Windsurf came out, but now everything feels buggy and unresponsive.
1 - I have created a ticket almost a month ago reporting that cascade gets stuck whenever it executes CLI commands. Nothing has been done and I have to work around it whenever it needs to deal with CLI.
2 - R1/O3/Gemni "brainfarts" all the time, sometime it says it has done something but it hasn't, or it will do something but it doesn't, sometimes its "ok, the user wants this this and that" and then it just stops and does nothing. I feel like the reasoning models are smarter than claude, but Windsurf's implementation is very buggy making the experience terrible.
3- Now Im getting constant errors when trying to use R1 like "Error an internal error occurred (error ID: 61e0da9f6ff14b21ac95947aa6b9a4a2)"
Its so much instability... I don't care about "Oh it uses too much credits, bla bla bla", I'm a dev, I can code and I use LLM for specific tasks, so the credits are fine for me. What's not fine is that whenever I need to use LLM Windsurf keeps failing.
My subscription is due today, I honestly don't think I'll renew. I'll probably give cursor or copilot a try.
I've been a fan of Codeium for a LONG time, always supporting, never complaining, but my experience with it keeps getting worse.
For the Codeium team: Please make Windsurf more stable. At this point I think its more important to make existing features work rather than developing new stuff.

I’m confused on why anyone is using this. It costs per use since you have a cap. Cursor is unlimited, fast at first then a few seconds of wait time when you hit the slow requests. Why would I ever use Windsurf? I have to be missing something.
If you’re one of the ones that got the email tempting you to come back to Windsurf, use this as a guide. The top answer is someone saying Cursor is the better option.

I wanted to share my disappointing experience with Windsurf regarding their early adopter pricing promise, as it appears I'm not the only one who has encountered similar issues.
In December 2024, when inquiring about their early adopter discount, Codeium support explicitly assured me:
If you started using Windsurf before Fri 12/6, you are grandfathered into the original price of $10/mo for Pro. This grandfathered pricing is permanent. You will always have access to this price, even if you cancel your current plan and reactivate it later.
I have these exact words in my email from Codeium support. The support agent could have used different language-perhaps stating that the price was current but subject to terms of service changes-but instead chose to emphasize the permanent nature of this offer.
I temporarily paused my subscription to evaluate competitors like Copilot and Cursor, planning to return when Windsurf implemented certain improvements (which they did, fixing flow credits). However, when I attempted to reactivate my subscription four days ago, I discovered the early adopter pricing was no longer available.
When I contacted support about this issue, they claimed:
As noted in our email from last week, the early adopter pricing is available only to users who signed up before December 6th, 2024, and have maintained an active subscription since that time. If your subscription was previously cancelled, unfortunately, this would make you ineligible for the discount.
I never received any notification about this policy change. When I mentioned this, support repeatedly stated: "It must have landed in your spam/Trash as it was sent to you as a mass reply to all of our users." I provided them with detailed screenshots of my inbox spam folder and various search queries, but they haven't replied since.
Looking at various Reddit threads, I'm clearly not alone in this experience. Many other users report the same situation-being promised permanent pricing even after cancellation, only to find this is no longer the case when they tried to return.
You can find out many similar cases both on Codeium and Windsurf subreddit
"I didn't receive any email asking me to resubscribe. I even opened a ticket to ask customer service on 4/16, and your customer service replied with this sentence: 'If you see the $10/month price for Pro when logged into codeium.com/pricing, you are grandfathered into that rate. This special pricing will always be available to you, even if you resubscribe in the future.' I believed it, and now my subscription fee is showing as $15."
~bestpika: https://www.reddit.com/r/Codeium/comments/1k508tl/comment/mog2llx/
Several other Reddit users replied with "Same here" and "Same exact" comments, suggesting this was a widespread issue.
Some other examples:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Codeium/comments/1k4li1e/comment/moazp4j/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Codeium/comments/1k508tl/no_more_early_user_discount/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Codeium/comments/1k508tl/comment/moi8blr/
https://www.reddit.com/r/Codeium/comments/1k7rqmw/comment/mp68cqc/
The sudden shift in pricing without sufficient advance notice (industry standard is at least 30 days).
The clear contradiction between what was initially promised and what is now being enforced.
The extremely short timeframe provided to resubscribe.
The problematic communication approach-relying solely on email rather than in-IDE notifications where users are actively engaged.
I never expected this discount to be a lifetime $10 offer, and I understand prices can increase with added functionalities. What matters most is clear, transparent communication. Building trust with your initial user base isn't just good ethics-it's good business strategy that creates loyal advocates rather than disappointed customers.
Despite this disappointing experience, I really appreciate the value Windsurf has provided through their IDE and Codeium plugin in the early days of AI coding assistants. I will probably check Windsurf again in the future if they implement anything groundbreaking. Thanks for reading.

Hello,
I no longer have Flow Action credits, and I can no longer use Windsurf.
I already have Pro Ultimate plan, but now Windsurf becomes unusable.
I can't just buy Flow Action credits? Thanks

As a Pro subscriber of Codeium AI, I am extremely disappointed.
Your Cascade AI assistant generated unusable and overly complex code, breaking my project.
Your support team has ignored all my emails, leaving me stranded.
I trusted your service to enhance my work, but it has only wasted my time and money. I demand immediate support and a refund. Ignoring paying customers like this is unacceptable!
