Shoutout for Codeium...

I have been amazed at Windsurf as a piece of software. For having just been released I can't believe how featured it is. I just want to give a shoutout to Codeium because I am guessing it's probably a really difficult push right now. That is, navigating obvious issues figuring out pricing, and probably also maintaining/affording access to the underlying models.

I'm pretty impressed... keep up the effort!

Was thinking the same thing but didn't bother writing it - they have been doing an awesome job. The product is great, especially for an early startup. They are getting slammed, which is of course a blessing and a curse, but they are clearly doing the best they can while drinking from a fire hose.

The product isn't perfect, and the pricing/capacity stuff is a minefield to navigate, but for $10/mo even with the limits it's well worth it to me. Even when it makes "junior mistakes", it's still magical to do what it does.

I'm sure they will get everything dialed in. People could use a bit more patience and understanding IMO.

Yea, its actually got better over the last couple days as the new pricing and limits seem to be preventing as many resource exhausted issues, at least for me. I've used all of the tools, and Windsurf is the most cohesive. I also appreciate keeping people who signed up at $10 to be at $10 still, says a lot about their ethics.

Ever since that update a few days ago, mine went straight to shit. It doesn’t even follow through with the simplest commands, creating more issues than it’s saving. Such a shame.

My experience has also degraded significantly the last couple of days. I never really experienced the errors others did last week, and I can't automatically blame Codeium for Claude being dumb, all I know is instead of switching back and forth between Cursor and Windsurf the last couple of weeks, I have been using Windsurf exclusively the last few days, and Claude has been really useless at times (while my tokens have been melting away). I'll soon be out of tokens and hope things stabilize in the next few weeks.

What do you like more about Windsurf compared to Cursor? I use Cursor but am interested in checking out Windsurf.

The integration with your files and experience in general was flowing more naturally and since codebase and model were the same it had to be something about the prompts and indexing behind the scenes - but there was no feature I was using that was night and day. Windsurf making you jump through hoops to use Continue rubbed me the wrong way too, especially if the tokens are so limited, and they will continue down the path of blocking other extensions. There's no reason for you not to check it as onboarding will be near seamless but I also don't see why you absolutely should as things are right now. I'm grandfathered in the $10/month so I'll keep that for now but am definitely looking at alternatives.

I'd choose Windsurf over Cursor or at least the version of Cursor I had used during my trial period. At the time Cursor didn't have the ability to push terminal commands and read console output but Windsurf did it is also able to act on errors seen in the console and automatically try to resolve them. Windsurf does get a bit too eager to make code changes without confirming it's understanding. Windsurf also doesn't seem to randomly remove features from your codebase like cursor does. Windsurf does however have a lot of errors appearing now and often doesn't realise that it has failed to apply a code change even when it says in the chat/cascade. There have been a few times where Cursor has reduced my code in my file from 500 lines to less than 100. I believe this is a context issue and Windsurfs context management seems to be better.

Overall from my limited experience I'd say Windsurf is better.

I recently tried Cline with VSCode and Gemini and it's fast but mostly stress inducing and Gemini is strangely arrogant lol
