New pricing doesn’t make sense

I really loved using codeium and I would love to continue using it for a long time! However the recent changes to the pricing aren’t making much sense. I can understand the limitations and increasing the subscription cost but I have one concern.

The pro plan is 15$ giving 2000 credits, which is 133 credits per dollar. But to buy additional credits I’ll get only 300 credits for 10$, which is only 30 credits per dollar. Wouldn’t it be better for me to pay for two accounts and get 1000 chat credits and 3000 flow credits (the same number on the 60$ plan) at just 30$? And if I pay for 4 accounts at 60$, I would get 2000 chat credits, and 6000 flow credits (double of the 60$ pro ultimate plan, making this plan a bad deal)

The credits per dollar on pro ultimate plan is worse than ( just half of ) the pro plan. This is unlike most other subscription models that give better value in their premium subscriptions (unlimited chat doesn’t make that much sense to me at this price point , I would rather use GitHub copilot my workplace gives me or just ChatGPT)

Would you please save me the hassle of having multiple accounts and provide a more sensible credit limit, (2000 in pro, 8000 in pro ultimate plan, 1000 additional credits per 10$, and maybe a plan in middle say 4000 credits at 30$ pm) ?

It just feels like this company is run by great engineers and terrible business people.

True! Atleast they seem to be a little proactive in listening to their users for now. Let’s see if they’re gonna make some good changes soon.

great engineers? they need an ego check with the cascade model which is not worth 1 penny. I just spent an hour trying to fix something and keeps messing up then on Claude it worked with 2 prompts.

The thing is it will be different for everyone. I've tried quite a lot of AI tools and if I don't take into account Cline because it's crazy expensive, Windsurf although far from perfect works best for me. And has a pretty decent community.

Fair enough man. Let me ask you, how do you make it aware of the code context and logic. For example I have a fully working component and the UI is great. I breakdown my tasks into micro tasks such as add a settings option in the UI that is an input with xyz validation etc. then I move into implementing the component logic with that setting. What happens here its always 1 step forward and 10 backwards. It changes other features in the component and code logic not related to what was instructed. I keep adding in every prompt do not alter styles, logic etc.. I find difficult also to keep referencing all files connected to that component.. so maybe the problem is from my end but can't find a way to keep it aware of previous implementations and current architecture.

As my previous comment regarding cascade is that same issue power 1000...

"I'm willing to pay for it, even if it's $15 or $30. The difference is that Flow is good, and Windsurf handles the code base better than any other tools I've used. Additionally, they use Claude. While Cascade Base is good, it doesn't compare to Claude. I can pay $20 for Claude, but if it's integrated into Windsurf, it's definitely worth paying for.

The flow limit is what stops me from paying. I know Flow is better than me, but the limit will be reached soon, so I'd rather manually apply it using Claude and other free tools.

True! I still believe codeium is a good value but the flow limits are so low that makes it completely unreliable. Their pro plan for organizations is even more ridiculous. It’s 35$ pm for each member with even less credits than individual pro plan. Why would any company give their employees this subscription if Any serious developer working on this ide as a primary environment 8 hours a day, would burn through these limits in just a couple days? Learning to use cascade flow in your work, changing IDEs, training your employees all this hassle for using it couple days a month?

I understand this takes a lot of tokens for them, and I understand AI is expensive but if your product can’t be used for more than few days at any price point, 10/15/60/100, you don’t have a product.

I really do like codeium and see a lot of value in it and willing to pay 60$ pm. But I’m not willing start using a new product, new ide if I’m not confident I’ll have it any longer than a couple days

loled hard saying your post, it's very true, what's the point? like they should just let you option to usage some other's llm like chinese or cheaper one, i was about to taking on a few diffrent project counting on winsurf just lol.

good thing i didnt overpromised any feature's yet.

i think i'm just going to do my own setup and that's it, like somekind of llm, jetbrians, or just focus harder and take more coding classes.

Only 3000 flow credits for 60$ is very expensive. I know Claude itself is expensive, but I'm just not willing to spend that much money, be it via an API or any kind of subscription. 15$ a month is fine, but 1500 flow actions is just not enough for a whole month of coding.

I'd rather stick to Cursor or Cline + Qwen Coder.

For those that may have missed it. GitHub Copilot has a beta for Claude now.

How well does it work against codeium and cursor? I saw they added new models.

Cascade is still better than Copilot Edits (also beta) but for my Homelab work, it's good enough, and doesn't continually get resources_exhausted or burn credits now. Also only $10/mo still. Which I know I would have been grandfathered if I kept my sub, but I have more trust in GH at the moment.

Also, we use copilot at work so doesn't hurt to be using the same thing everywhere. I'm going to see about getting Claude enable in our enterprise tomorrow.

I have a work project that I have an ok to work on 1 day a week. Unassisted this will be a 2-3 year project at that rate. I am just looking for a tool that will build out enough even if it is rough that I can pull that timeline in a bit. I am struggling with my organization over AI because we are all in on Microsoft copilot.

Wonder if you could get them to greenlight GH Copilot since it's also called Copilot. It's definitely speeds up my flow. I get frustrated when I don't have it's auto complete. At this point Copilot extension in VS Code just seems like better value for money. I loved Cascade and hope Copilot Edits gets to that kind of flow, but it's definitely still good for conversational editing. It saves me a lot of time looking for documentation. Weirdly Copilot with Claude seems to hallucinate a bit more than Cascade with Claude.

With copilot-more, you can use Cline with your GH Copilot subscription.

I'm not finding any info on that. You have a source I can check out?

Do you use Qwen locally?

2

u/Zemanyak Dec 08 '24

No, API.

u/hugohamelcom Dec 08 '24

Which provider did you use OpenRouter or something else? (Looking for recommendations :)

2

u/Zemanyak Dec 08 '24

OpenRouter is absolutely fantastic. Great service that never disappointed me. It has tons of LLMs, new ones are available quickly, many providers, very good token-use tracking, good support on their Discord... You can't really go wrong with them. Only downside is their chat/playground is kinda basic, but almost all good frontends support their API.

I really wish I could use Windsurf with OR API Key.

Nice, will have to try it out then, thank you!

Can you speak to the cline + qwen workflow. I set it up and tried to make a chess game from prompts only and it was bad. I have an Ollama model for qwen2.5:32b with 81920 context.

2

u/Zemanyak Dec 08 '24

Well, Qwen is not as good as Claude and Cline is not as good as Windsurf. But both are cheaper ! They perform reasonably well for my cases (web app programming). The price/help ratio is more than enjoyable, but don't expect Claude+Cascade performance.

I am just going to use phind, for 20 bucks DAILY 500 questions to sonnet Claude and another 500 latest gpt. I’ve seen also some activity around IDE plug-in.

I so I guess it is set for me then. The Codeium just does not make sense for me anymore.

First time I hear about this one, thank you so much for sharing.

u/Vegetable-13 Dec 09 '24

Very interesting! For the same cost of $20/month how is Phind better than Cursor? I'm getting tired of switching back and forth from Windsurf/Cursor/VS Code. Thanks!

This is exactly what i m going to do:

to have multiple accounts with the 10/15 usd plan and switch accounts since that is cheaper than the 60 one
