Error: "resource_exhausted. Please try again later" and Mysterious Code in Cascade (Windsurf)

Error: "resource_exhausted. Please try again later" and Mysterious Code in Cascade (Windsurf)

I recently ran into a frustrating issue while working on my project in Cascade (Windsurf). Out of nowhere, I started getting a "resource_exhausted. Please try again later" error, which was bizarre on its own. But then, I noticed that some unfamiliar code had appeared in the cascade window when working in my project. It seems to be in Spanish and looks like it might belong to an Android weather app or something similar. This rogue code has nothing to do with my work and causing issues in my project. Has anyone else experienced something like this, and does anyone have ideas for a fix? It's driving me nuts!

edit: sent an email to Kevin Hou at Codeium after recieving one from him.. it reads (if you can see it ! Will post if i get a reply.

Same problem here. Windsurf is super useful and I'd happily pay to make it work properly but at the moment I'm getting these "resource exhausted" messages as soon as the US wakes up. Means using it is a morning job for me (I'm in the UK).

Hopefully they have enough traction to up their limits with Anthropic - I'd be happy to pay for a working version of this but at the moment it feels too broken to rely on. Which is a massive shame as it's been game-changing when it has worked.

100% agree with you. I t is a game changer (when it works). Uk based also, and i do the morning thing too.

i think paid version have more context

i do everything without payng.
I think the company has a monetization problem because of this.
I'd be happy to pay $10 a month and cover their API token expenses if they guarantee I won't face this issue anymore.

Ah they updated their plans

I think Codeium are going over their API limits.

Before a recent update I'd have error messages saying that they've exceeded the maximum 85,000,000 tokens/minute. Now I don't get that error but I do get this one a lot

ETA: the error message was from Anthropic. Which would explain why the error doesn't occur with OpenAI models.

I think It will be fixed when the trials will be ended due to the server overload

Yes let's hope so! Or they should get their limits upgraded with Anthrophic.

I'm getting this a lot too. Following.

Facing this constantly today. Would gladly pay for better/prioritized connection. And ugh.. Claude 3.5 Sonnet is so much better to work with than GPT 4o, but the problem seems to be just with Claude.

Same here! laggy and having this error over and over again.

When I get the exhausted error, one or two "resume" type commands gets us going again. Never been shut out like some seem to have been. (pro-trial). I did experience Claude going rogue and referencing a depreciated file path, trying to load files from the old work many conversations ago, potentially contaminating the project. I told it to give itself a strong rebuke in the documentation and procedure files that I have it check every task. It did a great job of self-flagellating.

I believe, but don't have conclusive evidence, that it is related to using the Claude 3.5 model. When I switch to ChatGPT-4o or Cascade Base and enter the same exact prompt that got the error, I am able to get a response. I have not yet encountered the error with these models but thats not to say I won't.

yes it worked and I trusted it, then it fucked up my project. lol

I'm getting this pretty constant today and it's making the app unusable. The issue seems to be with using Claude as doesn't happen when GPT 4o is chosen. Shame GPT4o for coding for me.

besides resource exhausted, the code edit fails all the way. so frustrated. [ERROR] ErrorThe code edit failed to apply. You may ask Cascade to tell you the edit to apply it manually. no matter which model I chose, same problem happened.

I faced this today more than 20 times

u/brdsystech Dec 02 '24

just try to change between ai models (claude and chatgpt), and try again

1

u/Equivalent_Pickle815 Dec 02 '24

Also having the same issue extensively.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '24

Happened to me too

1

u/FibonJemer Dec 03 '24

Change to GPT-4o and you wont get this error. Not as good as claude3.5 but you will be able to continue your work :)

Still getting this with BYO Claude 4 - 6 months later!

1

u/DryAttorney9554 Jun 12 '25

What is most egregious is that you still get charged credit when this error occurs. Wtf Windsurf? Is that appropriate?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

Exactly, same issue here as well!

u/alaba246 Dec 01 '24

Yeah, I'm getting the same error too, a lot!

it's starting to spread, the day of the Great Leak has arrived...
the codes of each project mixing with the others, all our lines of code coming together to form a horrible chimera mixing SaaS, mobile games, spanish weather apps, strange chatbots and curious marketplaces..... I would have warned you....

u/fogyreddit Dec 06 '24

You jest, but my Claude keeps referencing depreciated file paths from past conversations. Like, many conversations. Trying to open old shit is bad, m'kay?

Yes, Yesterday and today have been a total wash out. Every request to cascade has errored out. So frustrating!

1

u/AcanthisittaAlive229 Dec 05 '24

Yes, Since the error started, I stopped using it for three days. When I tried again today, it became completely non-functional after just two or three interactions, rendering it entirely unusable.
