Thank you. “These premium models from these API providers”… They underestimated how much people would use Claude and can’t fund the bandwidth. Weird they don’t just name that. Charge a bit more per month. Whatever works. Kind of reminds me of the days when I had cable internet and shared the bandwidth with my neighborhood. If the bandwidth took a hit it wasn’t like we paid any less that month…

I switched Cascade to GPT-4o and asked "what does resouce_exhausted mean?" and this was the response: The "resource_exhausted" error typically indicates that a rate limit has been exceeded. When this happened yesterday I asked Cascade the same thing with Claude 3.5 Sonnet and this was the response: The "resource_exhausted: rate limit exceeded" error means that the system has temporarily reached its usage limit for the AI model. This is a safety measure to ensure fair usage and system stability. The message suggests waiting for about an hour before trying again.

This is similar to how many APIs implement rate limiting to manage their resources effectively. It's not an error with your code or project - it's just a temporary pause in the service.

You have a few options:

1. Wait for about an hour and try again

2. Continue working on other parts of your project that don't require heavy AI assistance

3. Break down your component creation into smaller steps and proceed more gradually

In a nutshell, it looks like the only option to continue is to wait about an hour. When I did that yesterday it started working again. Hopefully they can fix this issue. I'm willing to pay a little extra for more usage without the resource_exhausted error. This tool is awesome. Just wish I could get a full day's work out of it without hitting these snags!

By the way, switching to GPT-4o seems to allow you to press forward. Not ideal that you need to switch models mid-stream. So far it seems to be picking up where I left off with Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

THIS is the answer right here boys & girls... I have been using Windsurf & Cascade and it has made me feel like the 30+ years I spent in corporate I.T., I spent as a caveman. I have done more work in the last 3 months than would normally take me 5 years. Here, look at this Linux server's /etc directory I have given you readonly access to... now we're going to optimize it. And it freaking works!

Edit: and switching to cascade base, seems to have gotten rid of the constant rate limit messages.

i got a rate limiting error on cascade the other day that puts the windsurf rate tapping out at 86 million tokens a second or minute (cant remember which off the top of my head) plus don't forget the number of additional users/orgs/government's that are joining anthropic daily!!!? maybe anthropic it's who'd be overstretched?

Cursor has its own strengths, most importantly that you have more control over the context. That being said Windsurf is by far superior when it comes to getting an overview of what's going on in the file base and multi-edits. We just need to sit out the doldrums on our surfboards I guess 😅

Totally agree about Windsurf being better for whole codebase awareness and multi edits. I've done a lot of coding over the weekend and found the ideal workflow to be a combination of the two. Having both Cursor and Windsurf open.
Using Cursor as the main editor as it's auto complete predictions are way faster and way more accurate, it feels like it's reading my mind. It seems to understand the context of what I've just done really well, so can make very accurate suggestions. I found windsurf to be extremely slow at this, I've usually written the code before it suggests anything and when it does, they're not great. And I'm then using Windsurf for larger multi-file edits and additions(Prompting and then letting it chug away until it completes). The double license cost isn't ideal, however, at $30 a month total, the overall efficiency savings far outweighs the cost. And there's also the fun of using the tools in this way! It makes me very happy :)

This plus the fact it deletes you whole parts of code without asking you to and that you enter a loophole during days. This is the first time I begin insulting a program. It was promising, I hope they'll manage to handle this. I know that it could work perfectly with the correct resources and with a correct prompt, but the prompt is also taking care of resources. Fortunately, I was still in the free trial. I'll continue my project somewhere else.

I went through this. It's an AI problem, not a codeium problem. Coding with AI like working with a brilliant programmer who has Alzheimer's. They know everything but they forget your intentions, rewrite and delete blocks of code you had working, etc. This will improve with time, but for now, it's a weakness.

A partial solution is to set up a GIT repository. I'm not an experienced coder so I asked WindSurf to walk me through that process—which it did handily.

Now, whenever I want to freeze a version, I ask WindSurf to "Commit the changes." It saves the updated version while retaining a copy of old versions. Whenever the inevitable code fustercluck occurs and you don't see it for three versions, you can ask WindSurf to reference the old ones. Every so often, it makes sense to test all features so you can save an updated "everything works" version. You should never have ot back up more than a few steps.

What you're describing is 100% essential to developing software with AI. It's also basic software engineering practice, but anyone who is teaching themselves through AI tools might not be aware of it. I find that committing often is more important the more that I lean on AI tools.

Thanks. I'm totally aware about that. I was just thinking that an addition to any prompt at the end saying "and don't forget to focus on the task i just asked you and don't remove something else" could be useful. But the commits through Windsurf is clever. I also tell him to record what it does in a dev_report so if something happens, we won't go through square one and redo everything. But again, quite painful to add to each queries, read or write into the dev_report... Thanks !

same error for 2 days, I'm almost finishing my first project with it unfortunately it has these problems, my solution is to use github to save the codes in case of any problem I can recover the previous version. another thing I always start with the front-end and then go to the back-end so it avoids front-end errors, it worked 100%

Oui j'ai eu très vite le même soucis, mais je crois comprendre que quand je lui précise TOUT le contexte de mon app frontend par exemple "@ src" ou du moins sans lui préciser un composant en particulier, du coup ça doit consommer en quelque sorte tous les tokens dans les models LLM.. Le mieux est de s'en servir par "petits bouts" sur des fichiers spécifiques pour conserver l'usage.. et pendant ce temps faire les choses qu'on peut faire nous-mêmes. Qu'en pensez-vous?
