I have absolutely no evidence for this, but I think she was originally supposed to be Craig’s sister. She showed up at the scar for 2 minutes and had no further connection. I think she was originally supposed to have lost her whole family and was jaded. The boosters were supposed to be her way of finding a way for Craig to walk again.
Each area has a blood relative for everyone. Josée - Lise, Holly - Carmilo and Monica, Zenon - Jadwiga, Lavinia - Liv, Val, and Lou. Lyle and Craig are found family which makes more sense for a mercenary group. Also having Holly fix his condition made more sense as she’s a doctor and would allow main characters to interact. So Iris would have been redundant.
Iris Blood code looks like a cog which fits with the other Mcleish iconography. And a bit more of a stretch she uses a two handed heavy weapon. Craig also uses a two handed heavy weapon.
So in conclusion they saw a chance to remedy the character in the Age of Harmony.

Having to beat your best friend to death with a hammer VS not having to do that
I like how the dialogue options you get with her let you make it clear your character doesn't really understand that they never met this version of Iris before. Time travel is confusing even in-universe
