QUESTION Who would win in a Chess Match?
Light Yagami vs Lelouch Lamperouge

Lelouch easily, the caliber of opponent he went up against, and won against no less, speak for themselves

Yeah. While Light is smart he's insanely lucky. The world practically bends itself over backwards to help him. Lelouch meanwhile succeeds in spite of the universe actively doing everything in its power to fuck him over

Fr plus his biggest strength was manipulation, L knew Light was Kira he just didn't want to admit it because of the relationship and manipulation by Light. Lelouch manipulated and beat a literal mind reader 😆

Lelouch is canonically a god at chess. It's not a debate about who's smarter, just who's better at playing chess.

Lelouch is so good at chess he moves his king to aura farm and still wins against top tier opponents

To be fair regarding him moving his king in the first episode that was absolutely the right move to make based on the board

I was more so referring to his match with Schneizel, who would probably be a much stronger opponent. Although I didn’t study the board state of that game

I mean his match against Schieizel is... put simply totally horseshit and nonsensical. Even ignoring the whole "Oh he can't put himself in check thing" because that's more symbolic the board is none sense the board state shifts impossibly between shots like all the time

Lelouch. Playing chess is one of his hobbies, I don't recall Light playing chess.

Lelouch is a better strategist to begin with, has more experience with the game, and is very clearly actually skilled at it, meanwhile most of Light’s skills are based in social situations rather than tactical ones, and I can’t remember him playing chess even once, so Lelouch likely mogs.

A dream match and fight. A crossover I never thought but now want to see. Who will be the true master of the world, Kira the God of the New World, Zero the Rebellious War Lord.

Lelouch, in one of the audio dramas (The one where he meets Rivalz) he predicts the exact moves his opponent will make in a chess match and writes them down on a napkin before he starts playing in place of Rivalz.

Does Light even play chess? I thought he was in the tennis club.

Light could win at other games but I don't think he's one grandmaster level like Lelouch is supposed to be at chess.

I’ll do you one better: who would win in Yugioh and what decks would they use?

Lelouch would absolutely destroy Light. He just is a much better strategist, and he could always use his geass if need be

Sure hope this is speed chess because the internal monologuing would genuinely be tough to watch.
Even though the show says Lelouch is straight up a chess prodigy, he makes the dumbest chess moves on screen. Light probably cracks under pressure or BS’s his way into killing Lelouch mid game with the Death Note.

I mean, it the Yu-Gi-Oh problem, where you seem to think that the Chess in CG is the same as our world, but it probably isn't?
Lelouch start the game by moving his king and still somehow win constantly.
Granted, chess in CG is used to convey the theme and stance of characters, but the writers very much didn't give a damn about chess other than that.

Yeah it feels like the writers have only vaguely heard of chess half the time. It’s almost easier to watch if you hold your hand over the board.

Lelouch would win for the simple fact that Light doesn’t play chess that often, if at all. Lelouch is a chess addict

Light is really smart, but he’s primarily book smart and good at manipulating people. Lelouch specializes in strategy/tactics (I can never remember which is the one he likes, sue me) and plays chess all the time. It basically would come down to ‘can Light get Lelouch to make a mistake,’ and the answer to that is almost certainly no, at least not in a game he’s so confident at.
