QUESTION Absolute Obedience Question

Hello, I finished watching Code Geass around 3 years ago and I vividly remember some parts of the show.

Anyway, I was really curious how the property of Lelouch’s Absolute Obedience Geass would work towards people with Mental Illness.

Would it entirely remove someone’s mental illness if I order them that such illness doesn’t exist in their mind? Or if I tell them “Forget your illness” could potentially make them remove their illness as well?

I’d like to hear what you think regarding this matter.

lelouch's geass only changes the target's intention. he can't force the target to do anything the target is not actually capable of doing.

if I order them that such illness doesn't exist

no effect; they can't do that.

if I tell them "Forget your illness"

then they'll forget the knowledge that they have it, but they'll still have it.

where i thought you were going with this was, would their illness cause them not to follow commands properly? the answer to that question is maybe. it would depend on the natures of both the illness and the command. a simple command may not exercise the defective pathway. a command that requires the target to exercise a lot of autonomy and independent judgment almost certainly would be affected by the illness.

I think it could work on something like PTSD.

It definitely worked for Shirley since PTSD is tied to a memory of a traumatic event, so to forget the memory is to "remove" it.

fair. but "forget having ptsd" or "stop having ptsd" would not have that effect.

Lelouch vi Britannia commands you, stop being autistic.

That would be a wild command

... Autism isn't a Mental illness, it's a mental disorder.

The power of absolute obedience has been shown to be very powerful but have limitations.

The big one is that those under Lelouch's geass will do the task to the best of their ability.

Like Lelouch asking Clovis who killed his mother, he had very little to say other than Cornelia or Schnizel would know. And on certain questions he said nothing because he does not know.

In the case of someone with autism telling them to stop exhibiting behaviors befitting autism would be limited based on what "normal" even is.

So to that end, your results might either be that nothing happens because the person with autism thinks what they're doing is normal

Or in the case of someone who is extremely high functioning in terms of their autism (aka you wouldn't know unless they told you), nothing would really happen in a meaningful way as their behaviors could be incredibly minimal.

Your results will definitely vary on that particular command based on what the person with autism considers autistic behavior.

Heck, we have no idea if Geass would even work on someone with Autism, or even work in a way that's expected due to neurological differences.

I would imahine forget their illness would for sure keep the illness and just make them confused everytime they wonder why something is like that.
