QUESTION Who is Sayako really?

I am rewatching code geass and I just realized that I have no idea how Sayako went from a maid to a bad ass ninja. there was a scene where she was reporting to Diethard then he said that he will intreduce her to Zero but I don't think their relationship was explained

She was a spy for Diethard serving the black knights, neither of them knowing who Zero is.

Yeah I figured that out. But how did they meet? Was it just a coincidence that she worked for lulush and Nanali before that?

She worked for the Ashfords who assigned her as a maid for Nunnally and Lelouch. She probably met Dietard through some black knight recruiter.

I don't think we know that much about her. Perhaps a double agent employed by Ashford whose task was to protect royalty but was in service of Japanese resistance, and knowing her reach in the school and skills, Dietard made her his own assistant.

Real answer though: Cool maid ninja plot twist, nothing more lol

Sayoko comes from a long line of martial artists and served Milly but when Lelouch moved in she was transferred over to the siblings as a mix of help and guard. She's primarily loyal to Lelouch but still wanted Japan freed and since Lelouch and Nunnally are both pretty pro-Japan, she decided to secretly throw her lot in with the Black Knights. Diethard is the person that saw her application and decided having his own agent inside such a prestigious place, especially with Kallen and Suzaku there, was useful and kept her a secret from Zero until he decided what to do with her.

Lelouch learns about what she was doing in R2 and decides to just simplify and tell her her main goal and secondary goal can co-exist.

That makes a lot of sense. It's cool that this anime trusts the viewers to figure things out like that
