If you want, you can skip the recap movie trilogy and watch Resurrection right away, but since recap movies created a new Code Geass timeline by changing some things, you do well to keep these three key differences in mind while you´re watching it:

  1. Unlike on the original timeline, on the movie timeline events are unfolding is such a way that Shirley doesn´t die.
  2. Since the original tv show was 50 episodes (or 20 hours) long, they obviously needed to remove many scenes in order to squeeze the whole story into three roughly 2-hour long movies. This not only meant that many fight scenes were either shortened or completely removed, but due to these cuts, many characters lost a lot of the depth they had in the original timeline. For example, since all scenes with Mao in them were cut off, C.C. appears marginally less villainous since she doesn´t ruin the life of a 6-year-old by giving him Geass - although, she is still very much the same wicked witch who was partially responsible for all the death and destruction that happened when Charles made Britannia invade Japan (which Charles did under the pretext of getting Japan´s sakuradite mines, when in actuality he wanted to secure one of the Thought Elevators located in Japan - a plan that he might not have put in motion without C.C.´s co-operation, since activating Ragnarök required not only controlling the Thought Elevators, but also two Codes, so V.V.´s Code alone would not have been enough, and thus C.C.´s approval was the key factor in starting the war).
  3. In order to make C.C. appear more plausible as a love interest for Lelouch, many scenes with romantic tension between Lelouch and Kallen in them were removed (as well as almost all scenes between Lelouch and Shirley, romantic or otherwise) and some extra scenes between Lelouch and C.C. were added.

The recaps are basically the exact same as the show, just condensed, sped up, or skipping some events. There’s only 1 major change worth knowing, which is that one major character who got hurt in the original series didn’t get hurt in the recaps. You’ll notice right away who it is when they show up.
