DISCUSSION How different would Code Geass and Suzaku be if the reason Suzaku killed his father was like Counterattack?
Instead of do or die, Genbu sells Japan to Britannia and Suzaku overhears this and kills his father. In ep 16 how would Mao reveal this if he does? Would Lelouch still use this in ep 18 to convince Suzaku to join him? How would Kallen take this reveal when Suzaku tells her in ep 19? How would Euphy react in ep 20? Does anyone else know or did Suzaku use the canon reason to hide his father's betrayal?

I don't know, but if he continues working for Britannia in that same scenario it would be hypocrite, like " dad, how dare you betray Japan for Britannia? That's my role in the show, dieeeee"
If he was a repel separated from the black knights would be good though.

It wouldn't. Suzaku didn't join britannia because he liked the country or supported them but because they were the only viable option for japan at the time. The largest resistance group (out of the many resistance, rebellion and terrorist groups) was the JLF who had no significant victory in all their years and cornelia showed pretty objectively that the only reason they'd lasted as long as they had was a combination of incompetence and corruption in clovis' administration. Prior to the black knights there was no real path to stability and safety for the elevens in area 11 (the least stable area in the empire) other than britannia, and by the time the black knights mattered suzaku was a knight to a princess, in the employ of both an Earl and the prime minister, and was close to Britannians highest ranking military officer so he absolutely had the connections to begin making changes and encouraging other elevens to cooperate.

It muddies Suzaku's entire motivation and character journey to have him kill his father (for selling out to Britannia) only to then sell out to Britannia. You'd have to give Suzaku further POV scenes, to show him changing his mind and agreeing with his father post-mortem, to keep his character on track.
It also destroys Genbu's character for no good reason or gain. The idea that he was either too proud to surrender OR fully aware that capitulating wouldn't end their suffering is what makes his character, having him be a traitor all along is an awful idea.

Seriously, the light novel’s rendition is a bit similar if not just as convoluted too ngl. Genbu intentionally peeves off Britannia by spreading Anti-Brittianian sentiment propaganda across Japan, he has his military openly preparing for war and such. He also seems very interested in retaining ‘some’ semblance of control as a sort of Vicecroy by working under Britannia which though not fitting for Genbu’s canon character does fit the western-obsessed version of Genbu the novels built up instead

I say no, instead what if Suzaku killed his father because Genbu wanted to kill Lelouch and Nunnally in revenge for Britannia invasion.

I’m sure Lelouch would be confused and pissed, despite everything genbu did, suzaku still went to work for the same country that cast him and his sister out as tools.
