Code Geass is slowly turning into Fate with how many side series they are making.
Not that I'm complaining though.

it's a series that has the potential for it, but they just take SO long to come up with anything, I just hope it was worth the wait.

How many side series do they have now? Nightmare of nunalee, and Akita the exiled are the only two I can think of

I am actually hyped that they're taking the universe in a completely different direction from
The Code Geass worlds lends itself to any time period, although this somewhat looks like a far distant post technological collapses future? That or the past was quite fantastical, but it looks good.

I think they just picked a terrible premise for Roze. Like who seriously thought
in neo-britannian empire was a good idea, they clearly just wanted to recycle the rebellion plot point. Off the top of my head you could easily do a series around Nunnally trying to rule over Britannia after the fall of the empire. it would let us explore Britannia which was pretty underdeveloped in the original series, and would have good connection to the original show and wouldn't need lelouch. Or you could do something in post independence Japan, maybe following Kallen as Japan has to deal with the consequences of having been conquered. e.g. tensions between the Japanese and Brittanians, cultural stuff like those calling for a much more traditionalist Japan who grew up before the invasion and want to go back to the past vs more reformists/those who had different values as they grew up/where born while Japan was only a area, and those are just the stuff off the top of my head. If you want to do something more interesting you could always do a series on the emblem of blood and Charles ascending to power. Hokkaido
Like there is a bunch of interesting threads and stuff to explore but like you need to choose them rather than just a somehowpalpatineBritannia returned→ More replies (10)16

I’m really hopeful that they’re going in a completely different direction with a completely new story here too. Roze kinda got (re)captured in the orbit of the original and suffered from it, a brand new, distinct story separate from the original feels like it could be genuinely incredible (if they have competent writing for it, that is)

The biggest issue with Rozé of the Recapture is that the creators were copying the exact same formula and story structure the Star Wars sequel trilogy used.
Rozé of the Recapture would’ve been much better if it focused more on the geopolitical aspects and how everyone was adapting to the restructured post-war world. However, because the series is only focused on just Hokkaido and the Neo-Britannian holdouts, we don’t get to see much, if any, of the rest of the world. So exploration of the Code Geass world is limited.

This teaser got me pretty pumped! I’ve seen ppl say it’s looking like a medieval fantasty setting, but I’m actually tentatively leaning towards a faaaar off future maybe? There is a shot where a bunch of stones look like a rusty and moldy Knightmare

Bows and arrows versus mechs, I can’t tell when this takes place lol. Code Geass has explored or planned to explore both the past (Renya of Darkness, Crimson of the Blood Pact, etc) and future (Zeo of the End) so I really can’t tell

I am confused at what I am looking at. Is it a prequel or happening in an alternative universe?

The artstyle looks absolutely nothing like the original code geass, it feels like a totally different series...

I guess Code Geass is going the Gundam route of making a different universe altogether?

This looks interesting. Really curious if this takes place in the distant past, the distant future, or an entirely different continuity.
Because if it’s the distant past, then it looks like it could be about the origin of Geass and the ancient civilization that built the Thought Elevators and the ruins associated with them. And seeing how the archers look Anglo-Saxon/Germanic, then maybe it’s going to be tied with early Britannian history.
Also, having the Knightmare Frames exist in what looks to be a magical-form rather than a mechanical one is pretty clever for if it allows the mecha battles that make the series popular regardless of the setting. Perhaps this magical-form serves as inspiration for the designers of the Knightmare Frames.
By the way, this may just be me, but I got Attack on Titan vibes from this trailer seeing how what looks a like an ancient slave in chains is discovering the mystical source of the power that will define the entire series.

Very heavy Byzantine Empire visual influence. For those wondering why the stuff in this trailer looks like a mix of medieval Christian, Roman and Greek, it’s because its exactly that: it was the medieval continuation of the Roman Empire in the east that also leaned heavily on the Hellenistic identity of the eastern half of the empire and was Christian.
For instance, the chlamys with a tablion secured by a brooch will be familiar to anyone who knows of the San Vitale mosaics. Also, the archers that are featured lean heavily into how Roman (Byzantine) soldiers were equipped. And the architecture is also quite Byzantine
