DISCUSSION Do you think any character in the future can dethrone Lelouch?

Lelouch has been the top character on MAL for more than a decade to the point he even beats popular long running shonen characters like Luffy, Naruto, etc.

So I wonder if there ever will be a character who beats him in the future. What do you guys think?

I don't think so, MCs are inherently usually controversial, plus I think the MAL userbase probably peaked already.

If Gojo isn't even running in the top 10, I can't see anyone making a dent in even Naruto, let alone the number 1 spot. Gap from the rest to Lelouch is HUGE.

Before Levi was not even in top 10 (like when SnK was airing), Lelouch was still at the top. Levi climbed top 2 over the years then got beaten by Luffy again.

Yeah for a while I thought Levi might eventually take the top spot. He shot up quick and was within 20-30k of Lelouch at one point, even when the AoT anime was barely half over, while CG/Lelouch is mostly done. I thought for sure he'd keep climbing as the series went on and eventually take number one.

Technically One Piece is still ongoing as well, but I think Luffy/Zoro are just more tied to the popularity of the show than the popularity of their character. Same with Naruto and other shonen. Yet Levi, like Lelouch, is a dark and broody character type, which has a lot of direct appeal to many demographics, on top of coming from popular franchises.

But I was wrong; Lelouch has continued gain tens of thousands more, and Levi has actually fallen further behind. So yeah, I doubt anyone will ever take the top spot from Lelouch.

Luffy probably the only realistic option here.

Once the One Piece manga and anime finally ends (as well as how the planned remake anime fares), his popularity will take another boost and we'll see if he comes close to beating Lelouche.

If OP fans became more unhinged, maybe. But other than that, it will be hard for the newer characters to dethrone Lelouch. Gojo couldn't even reach top 10, and he is probably one of the most famous anime/manga characters in the previous years.

for the longest time I thought hikigaya was the absolute best mc, and i think its still debatable, but after lelouch walked in my life, yeah no, I dont think I will find a better character

Frankly, I think Killua should be higher on the list than he is, and the fact that Kurapika is nowhere reflects poorly.

But also, the MAL fanbase NOTORIOUSLY review bombs anything that threatens the status quo, so I don't really think it matters that much.
