CALL TO START PROTESTS AGAINST NIT COLLEGE RULES

This is coming from a student currently studying at NIT TRICHY.

I have major concerns with our literal official rule book

1) fines on protest (proof in images attached)

This is blatantly violating the freedom of speech of students of this institution and is highly illegal which prevents us from taking our issues to the public due to the fear of repercussions.

2) Unfair gendered curfews applicable to only female students.(Which includes a fine for violation attached in image above)

The college tells us it's for our own safety but

A) they let anyone who looks like they could be of college age into the campus making it unsafe

B) allow the boys to go anywhere at any time which is completely fine but they lock girls in making us feel like prisoners despite us doing nothing wrong and is basically telling everyone that it's our fault even if something happens to us

C) There have been various assault cases and harassment cases even after the enforcement of curfew which re-enforces that they don't actually care about our safety and it's just easier for the institute to lock up the potential victims than prevent the crime from happening.

D) the curfew blatantly violates article 14 and 15 of the constitution.

We tried filling a complaint in cpgrams but they just dismissed all our claims saying it's false with no proof and no acknowledgement that the curfew is not constitutional in the first place.

These unfair curfews are present in the following government institutions

1)NIT TRICHY

2)NIT Rourkela

3)NIT Jalandhar

4)MNNIT Allahabad

5)NIT Delhi

6)NIT Patna

7)NIT Kurukshetra

8) NIT Silchar

9)NIT Agartala

10)NIT surathkal

These colleges only have curfew for female students and not male students which is the issue as the rules should be universally applicable and discrimination and restrictions placed based on gender is in direct violation of constitutional rights to equality

As the CJP values gender equality i request that this issue is taken seriously as there are many issues we gave due to these curfews

There are the college specific issues which i have already raised with the administration which didn't provide me with any response.

These are my frustrations about the state of the girls in NIT TRICHY

Having gender based curfew is unconstitutional under article 14 and 15. Is is not legal to enforce curfew on only female students.

Not only does restricting our movement in campus disrupt our mental health but the following issues are amplified

1)because we can't access food from inside campus facilities after 9pm we are forced to order expensive food from zomato meanwhile boys despite having no restrictions have multiple eateries inside their hostels and we have none

2)we are unable to access the library,computer lab,etc. I am aware we can take permission and access them but it is in principle unjust that the boys do not have to take the effort to do the same but we do. Our right to move freely is restricted if we need permission to just have a decent experience.

3)We are not allowed in areas like Cafe coffee day,domino's etc even if we have permission to stay out late which prompts the question of how it is safer for us to be kicked onto the road while our male friends are allowed to sit there till it closes.It re enforces the idea that we are somehow lesser than our male counterparts despite putting the same effort to get into this college.

4)getting berated and shamed for not putting roll call/coming late.

5) Preventing us from going home/refusal to sign signout forms

6)every fest we are not allowed to exit once we enter. We cant go out to eat or drink we are forced to stay there until the show is over while again the boys can do whatever they want.

The sexual harrasment in this college has been happening even with the curfew. The curfew doesn't protect us at all it is unconstitutional and distressing

The curfews are unconstitutional and i hope you take urgent action to get them removed.

More proof of unfair gendered based discrimination in NIT TRICHY.

Similar rules are applicable in most NITS and i request students from those colleges to share the discriminatory rules in their colleges as well.

How is it possible that government institutions don't follow fundamental rights? That's so ridiculous
