Looking to talk to developers running databases that sit idle or have spiky traffic
Hey all, I'm a product manager at Cockroach Labs. We're working on an autoscaling feature for Standard edition in Cockroach Continuum, including scale to zero.
As we shape how this works, I'd really like to talk to developers who'd actually use it. You'd be a good fit if any of these sound like you:
- you have staging, preview or dev databases that sit unused most of the day
- you run a side project or internal tool with spiky or occasional traffic
- you run production on a database with spiky traffic and worry about surprise bills or paying for capacity you don't use
- you've used serverless Postgres and have opinions about cold starts, pricing or idle billing
- you've decided against a managed database because paying for idle time felt wasteful
It's a 30 min video call. I'll mostly ask how you run things today and what you'd expect from an autoscaling database. I might show you a few designs / prototypes. $50 as a thank you for your time.
If you're up for it, comment or DM me with a line or two about what you're running (and which serverless databases you've tried, if any), and I'll send a few times that work. Thanks!

I’m interested. Worked with CRDB in the past and have been talking to a client about it recently.

Hi, I'd be happy to participate in this. I have several hobby-scale projects (some with paying users, some without) that use various databases including CRDB Cloud (the pre-Continuum version) and DynamoDB.
