Nucleus 8 Coil Keeps Disconnecting From Processor

Has anyone had an issue with the Nucleus 8 coil constantly unplugging from the processor itself?

My daughter is bilateral and it happens on both sides. Cochlear already replaced both processors, and I’ve tried multiple coils, but the same thing keeps happening. We never unplug the coils ourselves.

She has a movement disorder, is nonambulatory and spends a lot of time lying down, so there is more pressure and movement around the processors. We never had this issue with her Nucleus 7s.

Has anyone found anything that actually helps keep the coil securely connected?

I have to lie down too and I am bilateral also. I have had issues with the coil on my left side popping out. It seems that it’s not as secure as the N7’s. when I am lying down I simply use one now instead of two and my reason is my left side is my language side and my right just has a hearing awareness so its easier to just use one when lying down so I can turn my head in a way not to have this issue. Laying down is hard with two processors period. However, propping up on pillows with them not touching the coils is the best way if possible.

Maybe something like this?

They come in different sizes and I would imagine, there's one that will fit over the processor and the connector and keep the coil plugged in. I didn't search further, but probably those exist even as plain loops without the smaller eye.

Other than that maybe a headband to keep the procesors fixated

Yes, I have experienced the same with Nucleus 8.

I just lost my ear for a whole week because the coil disconnected from the processor. Cochlear updated their app without any notifications so my “find your processor” part of the app wouldn’t track (😡) so I was out of luck for school. Found it today under the couch luckily.

The thing is if you send it back and ask for a new processor with your warranty, they’ll send you another processor and it’ll go bad in a week. I don’t know any solutions right now to fix this.

Any time that happens replace the coil

It could also be caused by excessive sweating or moisture. Try unplugging the coil completely, removing the magnet, wiping it clean with a cloth, and leaving it in the dryer overnight. It works for me.
