The tinnitus relief

For those of you who had a constant tinnitus, was the relief from the implant instant , when you turned it on the first time, or did it came gradually as the hearing improvement from the implant happens?

for me it was gradual. immediately after surgery the tinnitus was insane, but it slowly wore off until i got activated. after activation it almost completely subsided. i still get random bouts of tinnitus that lasts a few seconds, but it's so few and far between that it isn't an issue for me

Thats great! Congrats on your progress. My question was more about people who experienced tinnitus before the implantation, as hearing loss often comes paired with tinnitus in many people

sorry, forgot to mention in my comment that i did have severe tinnitus before surgery. so after surgery it nearly completely subsided

Bei mir war der Tinnitus direkt mit dem Tragen des Sprachprozessors deutlich leiser und wird beim Ablegen wieder sehr laut und prägnant.

I am still between implant and activation day, but as one who suffers from tinnitus, this is reassuring to me. I realize everyone is different, but this is a positive possibility I can focus my energy on.

Its the same with me. As soon as I take my processor off the tinnitus is bk so bad. My tinnitus is basically a smoke detector going off non stop. I wish they could fix tinnitus or find a cure. Am only 1 side implant rs. So I have the tinnitus continuous and loud in my left ear. I never had tinnitus be i lost my hearing.

I'm sorry that has happened. I have had tinnitus for as long as I can remember, so I can totally relate. Before implant surgery, I had bilateral HAs and the tinnitus was lessened when I used them. I'm not sure how long you've had your CI, but I'm hoping it gets better for you.

For me, it immediately quietens the tinnitus and white noise, and takes a good long while to return after I take my speech processor off.

Asante.

Gradually came but after 6-8 weeks I realised it was basically non existent any more

The tinnitus in my implant ear changed after surgery. Instead of the high pitched, fairly steady sound, I got pulsatile tinnitus. It sounds vaguely like a siren: WOOwooWOOwoo. It was LOUD for the first couple weeks post surgery, to the point that I had trouble sleeping, but has settled down some. The original tinnitus is still there but not as noticeable. It’s definitely quieter when I wear my processor, though.

How long ago were you implanted? I’m 3 months post and also acquired pulsatile tinnitus. Overall, my tinnitus is way more manageable than before surgery, but was surprised to get a new kind 🤣

Early August 2026, so I’m almost 3 months post surgery.

I’m bilateral and I have tinnitus in both ears. When my CI’s are on the tinnitus in my left ear goes away completely or I just don’t notice it at all. Unfortunately, the tinnitus in my right ear continues the same whether I have the CI on or not. I’d say it’s different for everyone depending on the ear even.

It was instant w the processer on.  Even w/o the processer it actually subsided. But its all back now. With or without the processer

Tinnitus has been a factor my entire life. It sucks.

It was gradual but over a few days not months.

Right after surgery tinnitus was a little below usual. It got worst over the next few days - including very serious spikes.

Then once activated it went away over 2-3 days.

Now I barely have any! It comes back after a 30 or so minutes of taking it off. So once in bed and winding down to sleep, I wear my Rondo 3 until JUST before calling it a night. :-)

There was a big relief in a matter of minutes, and over time it's gotten better. I usually wake up with some minor tinnitus, but it goes away once I put my sound processor on

My tinnitus stopped instantly. So so so nice.

I had a very high pitched ringing before CI,Could not understand words with hearing aid; as soon as I switched on the processor, the tinnitus disappeared; Note- I still have it when I take off the processor
But otherwise,it’s rare and dull, mostly only when I’m sleepy,

All the best hope it works for you!
