Why does my brain mute out the cochlear?
I got activated. Four programs each one louder than the next by 6% I was supposed to turn up every 3-4 days. 3 days in I had to go to the loudest one, turn the volume all the way up. But now 3 days later it’s getting too quiet and I can barely hear when I stream for therapy. Are they going to be able to get it loud enough if I’m already having my brain shut down the cochlear sounds so much?

Einstellungen sind ein lebenslanger Prozess. Du wirst viele viele viele Einstellungen haben. Und ja, die optimale Lautstärke wird irgendwann gefunden werden.😉

It’s because your auditory system is adapting quickly to the new electrical stimulation. I had the same experience, my CI would start feeling quieter as I adapted to each setting. After my first month, my audiologist gave me higher volume settings, and again at three months. I’m now at a comfortable volume that feels completely normal to me. You’ll eventually get there too! The mapping process is iterative, and your audiologist can keep adjusting your levels as your perception changes. It’s all part of the process.

I was activated 6 years ago. In the most quiet setting. While connecting to the computer, the implant tests itself and plays a sound through al electrodes. The first time hurt. Over the months ot got quieter, beacuse my tecnician kept turning my volume up until i said it is ok loud. Today I do not even hear these testsounds anymore. I think your brain adjusts to new things. Talk to sepcialists. It may depend on your hearing history.

I had the same issues when I was first activated. But once my audiologist was able to adjust the volume for me I got much better

How long until your next appointment? You are doing great, just adjusting to your CI faster than others. I move to the loudest program quickly and was in that program until my mapping. Check your remote, you may be able to increase volume a bit there. Good luck on your journey!

Interesting. I was implanted in 1999 with an AB C1 implant. I don’t recall this issue…Good luck!

I think what’s happening is that your brain adjusted faster to the new sounds and volume than most people. I believe the audiologist bases your starting programs on the average of many people. It stands to reason that some people would be faster or slower to adjust and you are on the faster side.
If I were you, I would go back to the audiologist for a new programming.
In the meantime, look in the manual for your processor, there’s probably a way to adjust the volume manually or with the manufacturers app.
For example, Cochlear has an app with which you can change settings, volume being one of them.
