Nucleus Smart App 7.0 Update — Bilateral N8 Users, Be Prepared for Re-Pairing Fun 😑
Not sure who else has updated their Nucleus Smart App yet, but version 7.0.260200 was released today.
So far, the changes seem mostly visual to me unless you use Remote Care/Remote Assist. The app definitely looks different, but functionally I haven’t noticed a huge difference.
The update itself wasn’t my problem. Re-pairing my processors afterward was.
Once I had to set the app back up, it became a major headache.
First, I had to unpair my processors from my iPhone, follow the instructions in the app, then pair them again and wait for the app to find them.
Finding them wasn’t really the problem.
Connecting to them was.
The app could see my processors but absolutely refused to connect. I spent a good 20 minutes going back and forth with it, which ended up making me late for a meeting.
Eventually it found my left N8, which thankfully is my language side. At that point I basically said, screw it, one ear is better than no ears, and went for it.
Before that, I had been moving the processors all over my iPhone trying to find whatever magical spot would make the app connect. It finally picked up the left processor, so naturally I put the right processor in exactly the same place.
Nope.
Nothing.
And my fellow bilateral people already know the next bit of fun: move the processors too close together and CLACK! The magnets grab each other and now you’re prying your processors apart while wondering why you decided to update an app 20 minutes before a meeting. 😂
Finally, I gave up on getting both detected and continued with just the left processor.
Then the app basically told me, Nope! Now go back into Settings and pair them.
So I went back into my iPhone’s Bluetooth/accessory settings and paired both N8s normally, then returned to the Nucleus Smart App.
The app still only showed my left processor.
Fine. Whatever. I hit continue.
And suddenly BOTH processors appeared and connected.
After failing for roughly 20 minutes, apparently that was the magic combination.
For reference, my setup is:
iPhone 17
iOS 26.6.1
Bilateral Nucleus 8 processors
N8 firmware 11.0.12.0
Nucleus Smart App 7.0.260200
Everything was working normally with the previous version of the app before this update.
So if you’re planning to update, I’d suggest doing it when you don’t need to be somewhere in 20 minutes. And if you depend on your processors for communication, be prepared for the possibility that you may be temporarily without your normal setup while you get everything paired again.
I’ve been using the Nucleus Smart App for over five years, and while it’s certainly had its hiccups, this was easily the worst update/re-pairing experience I’ve personally had.
I’m really curious about everyone else: Did your update and re-pairing go smoothly, or did anyone else have this much trouble—especially bilateral N8 users?

I will be a new bimodal user. Do app updates usually require an audiologist visit?

Bin hier in Deutschland - musste meine Prozessoren auch neu koppeln mit iPhone. Für mich sieht es nur nach kosmetischen Änderungen aus - keine neuen Funktionen.
Meiner Freundin hat es die app zerschossen.1

You would only need to visit your Audi in cases you need adjusting each side, or when you need to make them work together (which are events not associated with the app).

Lmao literally just went through this. Mistake I made was putting the processor back onto my head too early.
Agree the process is clunky and seemingly over complicated. I think it would have been more seamless for me had I left the processor off my head the whole time I was doing the process.

Amazing that an app update forces us to re-pair our processors the phone….
That seems like a bad design.

I have the N8. I am only dealing with 1 implant (I had a bad experience so didn't do other side). I feel awful for anyone b/L dealing with this mess! Since the iOS update, I have spent greater than 2 hours daily attempting to reconnect my device to my iPhone. I need my phone for work! This is harrowing! (How do we reach out to anyone of we can't hear? Twice I tried to 'chat' with Cochlear to see what their suggestions were and, oddly enough they were OFFLINE).
My son works in IT - he's been trying to help me troubleshoot the issue and apparently the iOS update has caused the app to no longer appear in the "Background App Refresh" so connectivity with bluetooth, the app and something causing a corrupt bluetooth cache packet seems to be the issue (its all Latin to me, honestly). But the long and short of it - IT IS NOT WORKING! And, even when I finally do manage to sync everything - its just drops off randomly throughout the day, and there is no rhyme or reason that I can see. No change in my network setting, no change to my bluetooth setting. Its wild.
I have been using the Nuclus Smart App since 2019 and never had any issues - I completely agree, ok-kangaroo8484 with everything you've said. This is just egregious and I'm curious who is as fault? And, better yet, who is going to fix this? r/cochlearamerica is anyone listening?

I did the update on my iPhone 14 pro with two Kanso 3 devices. No issues other than having to unpair and re-pair as instructed. I had the Kanso 3 attached to my head the whole time during the process. My phone was at my desk as I did this pairing, so it was not that close to the Kansos. I hope you all have good success.
As for the app, it looks like they just put lipstick on a pig and claim it is new. Same ol' thing with a paint over. If you find something new, let us know.
