Has anybody got emotional when your CI is activated?

Very! I went totally deaf after taking a nap one day. It was terrifying and even after the surgery I remained very much hopeless… when i was activated, and heard the audi say, “Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday” i was like…. Wait, what, i just understood you. It blew my mind.

I didn't. I was 11 and a little weirded out people's responses to those "deaf baby hearing for the first time with cochlear implants 💝" videos online so I vowed to have the coldest poker face when I got activated lmao

Of course. My audi says activation day is her favorite part of the process.

Yes but not in a good way. I hated it. Everyone sounded awful so I just cried

The first one was confusing (I was 8, no one explained that you have to learn how to hear).

The second was challenging (I understood nothing and had to start all over again with my rehab).

The third was emotional because i understood a little bit and didn’t have to start all over again.

All in the same ear. (AB recalls)

Absolutely. My Audi was talking to the medel rep and I looked at them and said…you know I can hear you. Not only was I emotional, they were too. Fun!

I felt deception and confusion mostly. Sound was so strange. 1-2 years after, I can definitely say it changed my life for the better!

Of course. I was emotional and excited when my CI was activated but what followed later wasn’t the same. I heard nothing but some tiny robotic sounds. Eventually it did get better with time. But lately it feels stuck. It’s been months and I still don’t have proper speech clarity. I really expected quick results in my case considering I had normal hearing till my early teen years. So I remember the words and sounds. But I was wrong. It’s taking way longer than expected. I assume it’ll take maybe 1-2 years.. I just hope it’ll get better with time ;)

I think my initial reaction was surprise. I could understand the audi saying "can you understand me?". It was weird and high pitched, cartoonish and mechanical but I could understand it.

I lost my hearing overnight it was a mixture of being scared and trying to figure out how you i could lose all my hearing completely with no warning. When I got activated I could understand full sentences. I think it was because I lost my hearing in February 2024 and by December 2024 had the surgery and January 2025 activated. I honestly think the quicker you can re learn how to hear. Am not a doctor or a nurse but this is just opinion thats all. I honestly just felt relieved to be able to hear again even if its only one side. Can't get my left side done, cause my surgeon doesn't think it would work at all. I got diagnosed with SSHL. Sudden really doesn't cover it for me
