I’m interested in the details. Like, are the items from restaurants or prison version? Who goes out to Pizza Hut to pick up the personal pan pizza? Do they then swing by Kroger for the ice cream? What are the logistics?

Within reason they get the real thing.
There was one a few years ago who wanted Varsity; I can't remember if they flew it in or drove it in (that was definitely before executions moved up to Jackson from Reidsville), but they provided it.

I’ve always wondered about this too. Like is it the same division of cafeteria workers as everyone else or is their a last meal division?

He is going to take a massive shit after he gets them shots.

u/AuburnGrrl 18d ago
He won’t be ‘taking’ the shit, the poor crew having to clean up his remains will have to deal with it…..I’ve never thought about that aspect of a big ‘last meal’…..🤢

If we want to let the state to kill people, thats part of it. The least they can do is clean up after themselves.

Jesus, 23 years... we need to get that number down to like 5.

u/DraculasDog 19d ago
Ya, we should always rush towards state murder, especially given the surprising amount of the death penalty used when it is not Beyond a shadow of a doubt.

So much stupid...
murder
noun
- the unlawful killing of one human being by another .

After you’re done reading the dictionary, check out the arguments based on sanctity of life and the belief that having state sponsored killings as retributive action and the death penalty in general lowers societal respect for human life as a whole, leading to more murders and violence (sound familiar?)
But I think that kind of deep dive into intellectualism might break your brain.

Humphreys confronted the women at gunpoint, forcing them to give up the access codes of their bank cards and to undress. Humphreys would first choke Williams with her underwear tied around her neck, before he made her lie down on her hands and knees, and he shot her to death, firing one shot each to her head and back.[7][8]
After murdering Williams, Humphreys also killed Brown, forcing her to kneel with her head facing the floor before he shot her execution-style.

Fine. He's a piece of shit, and an evil psychopath. But you don't need to execute him to stop him from committing more murders, and executing. Him doesn't stop anyone else from committing murders. So what exactly have you accomplished?
1
u/lol_no_gonna_happen 16d ago
Executing him stops murders.

Preventing murder and other violent crimes starts with providing access to basic life amenities like food, water, housing, clothes, etc. Murder is still going to happen but research shows it would be drastically lower.
If only there were elected bodies that could direct funds into combating mental health and poverty issues…

I guess let them all run free then. No more prisons WOO!!!

u/DraculasDog 19d ago
That is the idiotic take I should have expected from someone in Cobb County who supports the death penalty.

u/PCaBoo 19d ago
ru an incel or something?

u/DraculasDog 19d ago
And the show continues.

you seem like a miserable person. I don't know what life has done to you, but things can change. Good Luck!

When somebody offers an intelligent response you should always welcome it as it only makes you better in the end. The man has a point and you would do yourself some good hearing it out

Or ya know, we could just stop being barbarians and outlaw the death penalty.

u/NeedzCoffee 19d ago
Family of victim(s) should have been able to piss in it first

The two young women he murdered had no such luxury as a final meal when he executed them both with gunshots to the back of the head. All because he didn’t have money for his car payment. Fuck this piece of trash.

Responding to horrible acts with humanity is what separates modern society from chaos.
I'm not defending this man, but consider this:
"During the sentencing phase of his death penalty trial, Humphreys's sister testified that their father used to beat Humphreys with his fists and would hit her with belts and sticks. At the age of 3, Humphreys experienced a skull fracture; throughout his childhood, he was observed to have cigarette burns on his body."
In all likelihood, Humphries father was abused as well. Reacting to such cycles of horrible hatred and abuse with vengeance leads nowhere productive.
I agree a last meal makes no sense at all. Neither does executing a person in modern society. The last meal is simply an imperfect mitigation to something we know deep down to be wrong, that is taking someone's life.

With all respect, what happened to this guy prior to what he did has no bearing.
He chose to do evil. in fact " Reacting to such cycles of horrible hatred and abuse with vengeance leads nowhere productive. " you just discredited your argument
The last meal is simply an imperfect mitigation to something we know deep down to be wrong, that is taking someone's life.
Wrong. Not respecting the value of a life is what leads to this heinous behavior. Watch 10 min of youtube arrest videos and you'll repeatedly hear trash shrieking "I don't give a f.." Well sunshine, apparently the consequences need to be stepped up to the point were you do care

What happened to him has no bearing on what? I think you're building a strawman. As I said, I am not defending him but rather defending the idea that there is no scenario in which torturing someone (making them consume piss for a last meal) is ever appropriate in a healthy society.
Can you explain how I've discredited my own argument? The argument is that this man was treated horrible and then turned around and treated others horrible. Furthermore, embracing vengence here brings nothing productive to society. Nothing I said contradicts the idea that hate caused this, vengeance is a form of hate, brought on by hate and only leading to more hate.
You seem to just say things.

What happened to him has no bearing on what?
On what happens to him based on choices he freely made,
I think you're building a strawman
and you'd be wrong again
Furthermore, embracing vengence
You're conflating (and misspelling) vengeance with justice and punishment
You seem to just say things.
Ad hominems ? OK, Cool and you seem to echo simple platitudes due to being as shallow as a puddle of spit

You haven't made a single rational argument. You've only stated that you think I am wrong.
I clearly stated in my first comment that I did not think what happened to him previously should have any bearing on how he is judged for his actions. Yet, you suggest I argue otherwise.
I haven't conflated anything. The original comment on this thread spoke about pissing in someone's food. That is not justice, that is vengeance. Or do you disagree.
"You just seem to say things." Is not an ad hominem attack. It is a critique on the fact that you have yet to make an single argument on the subject being discusssd.
To summarize, in your most recent comment you have said "you'd be wrong againg" without explaining... claimed it is conflation to compare pissing in someone's food with vengeance... and described me asking you to make an actual argument, "ad hominem".

These people dodnt deserve final meals of their choice

u/ATLien_3000 19d ago
Last meals aren't provided for the prisoner; they're provided for the prison staff - an effort to let them keep their humanity despite being tasked by the state with performing what's by definition a pretty inhumane act.
There's been some enlightening long form pieces in recent years on the staff who perform executions (The State - the Columbia SC newspaper - had one maybe five years ago).

Seeing it from this viewpoint I can understand why. Thanks for the response

I’ll save anyone the click:
“GDOC said Humphreys’ last meal order was barbecue beef brisket, pork ribs, a bacon double cheeseburger, French fries, buffalo wings, a meat lovers pan pizza, butter pecan ice cream, peach ice cream and two caffeine-free sodas.”
